Londyn McCormack didn’t have a typical childhood. She ran away from home at sixteen, escaping parents more interested in drugs than their daughter. She doesn’t have loving siblings or an adorable pet. Her only family is the five other runaway kids who shared her junkyard home.Life pulled them all in separate directions, taking her to Boston. For a short time, she thought she’d found something … something permanent. But after a devastating divorce, she’s running away again, this time to find a lost friend.
She’s driving across the country in her convertible. As a teenager, the rusty car was her shelter. As an adult, it’s her ride to freedom.
Except one flat tire derails her trip. Her life collides with Brooks Cohen. They walked away from the first crash. The second might destroy them both.

Run as fast as you can into this heartwarming love story. Raw and fresh and every feel in between have my heart wrapped up in a perfect word package that only Devney Perry can deliver! I can’t wait to meet all the runaways!
Runaway Road is the first book in a new series by Devney Perry, and it was such a refreshing read! The backstory is just so original!
When Londyn McCormack was sixteen years old, she ran away. She lives in an old beat-up Cadillac in a junkyard, along with five other runaways. She eventually makes her way to Boston) along with one of the other runaways, marries a man, only to find herself unhappy and now divorced. Determined to make her way back to California to return the Cadillac to one of the other runaways, Londyn finds herself in West Virginia, and falling for a mechanic, Brooks Cohen.
I absolutely loved these characters! I loved the slow burn between Londyn and Brooks, and the feeling that were elicited. And I fell in love with Summers, West Virginia!
I so look forward to more in the Runaway series, Gemma’s story next (and eventually getting to Karson…)!
I always love when Devney Perry starts a new series, I think I know what to expect, then she smashes all my expectations to smithereens in the very best ways possible.
Runaway Road is the story of Londyn McCormack, who at the age of sixteen ran away from a home without food, money or love but filled with addiction. She lands at a junk yard with 5 others, and shares her home (a ’64 cherry red Cadillac) with her teenage boyfriend Kayson. Though we don’t start the story there, Londyn’s journey begins much later in life, after a failed marriage leaves her feeling ready to runaway again, to tackle the open road across country from Boston to California in the very same car that was her teenage home. Londyn spent a lot of money having the car updated and restored, to pass on to Kayson so he can feel the joy she has, relieving the happiest days of her youth.
When a lapse in concentration leads her to end up hitting the guard rail along the side of the road, Londyn’s travel plans are put on hold whilst she’s towed to the closest town for repairs. On the plus side, the mechanic that comes to her rescue is the hot as sin Brooks Cohen, someone she is happy to spend a few nights getting to know in bed, but the plan is always to leave. After her plans are derailed further when her newly repaired car is vandalised just as she’s ready to go, the pair get closer and closer and the small town begins to feel like home.
As with all Devney’s books, the writing is outstanding, you are thrown into the action from the first word and obsessed by the end of the first page. She manages to weave a story that can relate to everyone in someway or another and endears you to all her characters without you realising, leaving you desperate for more and heartbroken once it’s over.
A phenomenal start to the new series, I can’t wait for Gemma’s story in Wild Highway, or any of the others that are still to come. Again, with every DP book, I can’t recommend this enough. Everyone needs to grab a copy and devour Runaway Road.
This was such a refreshing story! Londyn and Brooks stole my heart, I was rooting for them from the beginning! A fresh change of scenery is sometimes all you need to find yourself again and maybe a little treasure in the process! Londyn, fresh off a contentious divorce hits the open road seeking a dip back into her past with a few lifelong friends she lost touch with but remind her of times of survival. Fate has other plans for her however as she ends up in the most unexpected place, facing unbelievable circumstances. But in the midst of it all, she meets Brooks, the local mechanic! These two have eyes for each other almost immediately and Brooks treats her like nobody ever has in her life, and so begins their incredible love affair. Their love story is easy and sweet, but there are a couple jaw dropping moments throughout the book!
Devney Perry is one of my go to authors! She’s incredibly talented, her characters are so well developed they feel real and the stories suck you in. I’ve loved all her books and simply can’t get enough; I can’t wait for the next release!
Runaway Road by Devney Perry was just what I needed! Perry delivers all the feels, while keeping her readers on the edge of their seats.
I absolutely love Londyn’s character, and don’t even get me started on Brooks. That man is every woman’s dream.
“My hand pressed against my heart. She was stealing it, little by little.”
I love the way this book takes you j Brooklyn’s journey with her. You feel her emotions and you get her heart and her reasons for the decisions she makes.
“But this small talk felt more like friendship.”
She is the embodiment of how strong we can be as women, and yet still have a vulnerable and loving side.
This is definitely one of my all time faves!
5 Stars!!!
This book is not what I was expecting. It’s full of hope and finding ones self. Lana~White Hot Reads
Londyn spelled with a “y” embarks on a self discovery road trip that leads her off the beating path too the small town of Summers, West Virginia where she meets the ever so sexy tow truck driver Brooks. Instantly taken by him, she realizes that finding him could be the one place where she finds happiness. I really enjoyed this story and can’t wait for the other books in this series.
This book is very different than I was expecting. It hits a deeper level for me. I loved the emotions and the little bit of suspense. It had a lot of surprises and some unexpected twists!! Londyn had an amazing personality and a forgiving soul. Brooks had the same alpha flare you always get from Devney Perry! This series is going to be amazing.
Sometimes running away from the worst problems can lead you to you happily ever after. Running away on the that runaway road was the best thing Londyn ever did. Back roads and unhappiness led to small towns and joy!
This book is Devney at her best!!! I can’t wait to see what comes next!!!
Devney Perry is pure gold! Runaway Road was so unexpected! A pure joy to read! Londyn sets off in her Cadillac leaving behind Boston and a cheating ex husband in her rearview mirror. Her Cadillac was more her home than the mansion her husband called home. She was taking her car back to Karson, her childhood friend, when an accident in West Virginia has her taking a detour on her road trip. A certain tow truck driver, Brooks Cohen captures her eye and her heart. Can a detour be the way home for this runaway? This can be read as a stand-alone and is the first in a new series. I am so excited to start this journey! These characters will jump off the page and into your heart! Gemma’s story is next in Wild Highway. Runaway Road is an amazing read and will grab you by the heartstrings! 5 stars
Oh my heart!!! This book is everything wonderful and amazing! It has all the feels I could ask for and some I didn’t even know existed. Sigh. Runaway Road was exactly what I was looking for, and I didn’t even know it.
When Londyn leaves Boston behind, she’s got the whole world at her fingertips. She’s traveling across the nation with a sense of freedom she hasn’t felt in years, if ever. But when an unexpected accident lands her in Summers, West Virginia and in the company of sexy mechanic, Brooks Cohen, what felt like freedom might have been something else entirely.
’Passion and anticipation coated each minute I spent with Brooks like warm chocolate on vanilla bean ice cream. It took every second to the next, delicious level.’
Wow, I loved Londyn. Usually, I’m all about the hero of the story but Londyn captured my heart from the very beginning. The more I learned about her, the more I not only hurt for her past, but respected her for what she had made out of her life. The crossroads she is currently stranded at is one I could have easily decided, but Londyn has a lifetime of lessons that make it difficult to take the most obvious road.
Brooks was exceptional! He’s the hero that takes care of his family, is a loyal and trustworthy friend and despite his own pain, determined to allow Londyn to do what is necessary for her own happiness. I loved how laid back he was with a sense of humor that had me smiling. But never has a hero been able to bring me to tears as Brooks did with such a simple gesture.
’She’d blown into town and made me realize the hole in my life. The hole in the exact shape of a five-foot-five blond woman with jade-green eyes.’
Man, this book broke my heart in so many ways before healing it in the sweetest, gentlest manner. This author had me sobbing with grief one moment and crying with happiness the next. Shorter in length than her usual books, this never felt short-changed. Each character was richly developed, the plot well devised, and the epilogue pure perfection.
What a wild ride down an emotional highway this read turned out to be!
Devney Perry has done it again my friends! I absolutely adore this book! Runaway Road is so adorable and swoon worthy that I could not put it down. I’m fairly certain I read this book in just a few short hours. Devney Perry has a way of writing stories that sucks you into the storyline and makes you feel everything the characters are feeling. She is a master at writing small town romances. I want to go live in these small towns she creates because they sound like such fantastic and relaxing places to live. Everything about this book is captivating, from the small town of Summers, West Virginia to the sights, the kind people, and the feel of home and comfort the characters felt.
Londyn McCormack is a woman on a mission. She leaves her life behind in Boston after a devastating divorce to find a lost friend, as well as finding herself along the way. This lost friend is someone she grew close to when she ran away from home at sixteen. She spent several years with a group of five other runways. Over the years, she lost touch with all of them except one. After her divorce, Londyn was looking for a new direction to take her life and I think she used finding her lost friend as a lifeline. She needed to get away from her old life that had become suffocating, away from a man who tried to change everything about her, and away from a place that never really felt like home. She ran because she was scared and didn’t jibe what else to do. By running away from Boston, I think she was hoping she could find something else to run towards. Londyn is such a sweet and likable character. I really enjoyed watching her blossom and grow over the course of the story. She’s strong, courageous, and passionate about life. She’s also scared about being hurt and left behind. The thing I like most about Londyn is the fact that she’s all these different things at once. No one is perfect and everyone struggles to find the place they belong. The place they can call home. She struggles to find the place she can call home. And then comes along Brooks Cohen. He throws a wrench in her plans and makes her wonder if what she’s been searching for could be in the small town of Summers, West Virginia instead of California.
I adore everything about Brooks Cohen. He’s sweet, kind, funny, drool worthy, and completely swoon worthy. Brooks has lived in Summers, West Virginia his entire life and he owns and runs a garage (mechanic baby!). Cue drooling. The descriptions about this man are everything. The way he fills out his clothes. The scruff on his face. His gorgeous face. I can literally go on for days. It’s not just his looks that draw you in though. It’s who Brooks is as a person. He genuinely cares about people and will do what he can to help them. That right there is one of the most attractive qualities a man can have: kindness and decency. It was basically a swoon fest any time I read anything about Brooks. I could honestly read about him for days. Everything about him just draws you in and makes you want more. Why, oh why, does he have to be a fictional character?!
Londyn and Brooks together is simply magic. I love everything about these two. The attraction between them was instant. Their first meeting was so stinking adorable. It’s one of my favorite meet cutes ever. You will totally understand when you read it. These two are going to own your heart right off the bat. Their romance is so adorable to watch unfold and their chemistry is on point. I was totally rooting for Londyn to stay in Summers as long as possible, so I could read more of their steaminess. I love how Londyn and Brooks got to know each other over her stay in Summers. They talk for hours about everything and nothing at all. They have such a comfort and ease with one another. They didn’t always have to fill the silence with conversation. The feelings that developed between them was so natural and easy. I was rooting for these two the entire story. They are made for each other. Brooks respected Londyn and her life choices and Londyn respected Brooks’. They weren’t going to hold each other back, even if it killed them to let each other go. Honestly, you need to read this story to see how epically adorable and perfect these two are together. You will not be disappointed with the ending.
Overall, I give this story a 5/5 rating! I continue to fall in love with Devney Perry’s writing. I love each and every one of her stories. The stories and characters always pull me in and I never want to leave them. The Runaway series is going to be an amazing series and I can’t wait to go on each individual journey with the other five runaway kids. I have a feeling each story is going to pull at my heart strings more than the story before it. I cannot wait to see where Devney Perry takes us next in this series.
This book hit me with all the emotions and I LOVED IT! I could feel the anger, feel the sadness, and I found myself becoming anxious to find out if the ending was going to be what I suspected, like heart palpations people!
This story was so unique, completely unpredictable and just when I thought I knew what was going to happen something else did. I felt like I just got off one of the best roller coasters ever and I had the chills reading the end of this book. Devney Perry has this amazing ability to write such unique books with out sacrificing everything I love about her writing!
