Can two people perpetually moving in opposite directions ever end up in the same place? Or will love just keep giving them the runaround?Webb Bryant is intimately acquainted with every type of trouble there is. Trouble is all he’s ever known and the only constant in his life.Webb’s a man constantly on the move. He’s a drifter. A wanderer. He bolts from one bad choice to the next, never able to … next, never able to put enough distance between himself and the ghosts from his past. He lives hard and fast, until everything comes to a screeching halt the moment he lays eyes on Tennyson McKenna. The stunning woman appeared out of nowhere to save the day, and Webb’s been unable to forget her. The leggy, blonde forest ranger might very well be the one person in the world important enough to finally keep him in one place. Only, Ten isn’t impressed by Webb’s knack for finding trouble. And no matter how hard he tries to shake it, he can’t escape his bad habit of falling into the deep end of questionable decisions. When his newest brush with trouble gets Webb in way over his head, Ten jumps after him into the dangerous waters. It’s possible they’re going to sink so fast they both might drown.
Tennyson McKenna makes it a point to be diligently cautious in all aspects of her life. She learned the hard way that leading with your heart instead of your head gets you nowhere.
Ten’s a woman stuck in a frustrating rut. After a string of failed relationships lands her back home, a pit stop to mend her broken heart becomes a hole she’s lost the will to dig herself out of. Coasting through her days was easy until Webb Bryant crash-landed in her path, complete with bullets, blood, and a grin far too charming for his own good. Webb is anything but safe and predictable. He’s everything Ten swore she would never gamble on again, but it’s impossible to ignore the way trouble follows him around like a shadow. And every single time Ten pushes Webb away, she finds herself chasing after him before he’s gone for good. When Webb’s past finally catches up to him, Ten has to decide if she’s brave enough to put her heart on the line for a man who might be gone tomorrow.

Ever since we got a taste of Webb and Ten’s undeniable chemistry in the previous books of the Getaway series, I’ve always held onto hope that they’ll get their own book. Now that it’s here, all I can say is that it was absolutely worth every second of the wait. They had my heart simmering and melting on the palm of their hands the second I dove into Runaround, and it just left me on a kind of high I didn’t want to come down from.
“Life is too short to waste time and energy on the people who don’t want us. They don’t matter. They don’t get any part of you. Save everything you have, everything you are, for the people who want and need you.”
Webb Bryant was as irresistibly charming as they come, but he’s always had a penchant for finding trouble. He also never had a place he really called home—he just never stayed in one place long enough to call it as such. But ever since he found himself in the middle of the wilderness with the Warners and spotted the leggy blond forest ranger, he decided to have a change of pace and stay a while. When Cyrus Warner offered him a job as a rancher, it only sealed the deal even more.
“I’ve been waiting for you, Ten. I didn’t know it, had no idea I was searching for something, or someone, all these years I’ve been on the run. First time I saw you, I finally wanted to stand still.”
Tennyson McKenna has lived in Wyoming her whole life. She had this vision of how her life would turn out, until everything started to fail her—especially love. It seemed that those she chose to hand her heart over to just weren’t the right people and she always ended up getting left behind, thinking she‘d never be enough to be their first choice. But Ten steeled herself, learning to be the strong, independent woman that she is. And I loved it. I loved that she knew how to stand up for herself and carry her own. Because if not for that, she wouldn’t have been able to become Webb’s anchor who constantly grounded and steadied him.
“Even if she was covered in thorns, I didn’t mind bleeding for Tennyson McKenna.”
I already knew Webb and Ten together would be intoxicating—they just have the kind of connection and dynamic that would pull you in no matter what. But what had me majorly glued to the pages of this book was the twist—the massive twist that Jay Crownover threw in like confetti, and had my jaw dropping and my eyes bugging out. Since then, there was just no putting this book down.
“I don’t have faith in many things, Ten. You and me, I’ve believed in from the start.”
Runaround was every bit gritty and gripping down to its very core. Every chapter will wind you so tight, you’ll constantly be on edge, waiting for that other shoe to drop. The plot was so well-executed, it’ll leave you riding an adrenaline high like no other from start to finish. Jay Crownover has truly knocked this series out of the park, and every single book just gets better and better. Here’s to hoping we get the next one real soon because that I’m definitely dying to get my hands on!
Webb…ahh! I was so excited to get Webb’s story. I just loved him in the other books and how he kept trying to get Ten to notice him. Well he finally broke through her tough exterior in this book. She really did like Webb from afar, but wouldn’t dare act on it. It took trouble to find Webb again for her to soften to him. They are six years apart,( Ten being older) but from all the life experiences that Webb has already endured makes him wiser than his years. Now that the two have finally acted on the chemistry they have for one another, it is amazing! How they have realized that they need one another to be complete. The fourth book was as good as the first in the Getaway series). I like how Jay introduced us to Loveless in this book as well! Can’t wait to read that series! You will not be disappointed in this book, so run out and grab it!
I love Jay Crownover’s books and Runaround is a fantastic addition to the Getaway series! She perfectly blends interesting characters and a storyline that keeps you engaged from beginning to end.
If you are familiar with the series than you have met Webb Bryant and Tennyson McKenna and let me tell you, their story is steamy with a thread of danger and intrigue running throughout and it will definitely not disappoint!
I had the opportunity to listen to audio version and the narrators absolutely did a fantastic job bringing these characters to life!
Loved this book and I’m loving this series so much!! I think this may be my favorite in the series and I didn’t see that happening at all!
Trouble finds a way to follow Webb Bryant throughout his life. While attempting to create a new life in Wyoming, Webb is taken into custody for a series of robberies he knows nothing about. Determined to clear his name, Webb must lean on the one person that he wants nothing more than to find a future with.
Tennyson McKenna hasn’t had the best track record in the romance department. Those mistakes have led the strong willed Ten to be a bit more guarded with her heart. Nothing could have prepared Ten for the way Webb would push through her defenses. Now – the cost of Webb’s safety and innocence will lead Ten into the past. With a former lover that is determined to sacrifice Webb’s freedom for notoriety, Ten will have to risk it all to uncover the secrets that are threatening to harm the man that has captured her heart.
Runaround is the latest installment in the Getaway series by Jay Crownover. It is filled with broken hearts, long lost siblings, and a quest to uncover the lengths one will push towards to save the one that holds their heart. Ten and Webb will travel through many hurdles and heartache to uncover the cage around their hearts. Their attraction is one that will capture your attention and leave you desperate for more. Simply put – I couldn’t get enough of these two!!
Love is never perfect, a reality that Ten and Webb know all too well. What matters most is the devotion and joy from finding that one true love. That sentiment cultivates into a great romance that has a secret lurking in the background. Runaround was a wonderful compliment to the two characters that deserve that chance at finding the missing piece of their soul. If you haven’t had the pleasure of reading the Getaway series – make sure to add it to your collection today! !
This was another great book in this series. I definitely recommend this book, this series, and this author.
LOVED!
I loved Ten in the previous books so I was super excited to get her story. She was everything I hoped for and more. Strong, intelligent, kind, I could go on and on. I loved that Webb was the man that saw past her beauty and her independence and saw her kind heart. And Webb! He proved he was more than a handsome face. They were perfect for each other and I loved watching their love story unfold. Like the rest of the series there was drama and surprises along the way but it was fantastic from start to finish! I can’t wait for more from this series!
Wow. Good book! I’ve really enjoyed the Getaway series.
Webb and Tennyson are great. Their dynamic is like the best foreplay, push and pull and a whole lot of sexual tension.
This story was filled with the pain of childhood, the struggles to survive, running away, self-preservation, and falling hard.
Family doesn’t necessarily mean blood. Sometimes it’s those who surround you and hold you up…and accept you as you are. Wyatt and Webb have always been solid, each broken but never letting the other down. Cy, Leo, Rodie, Ten. That’s family for the Bryant men.
And the epilogue? Book 5 is going to be a battle of wills and likely something beautiful.
We all begged for it, and Jay delivered a twisting story for Webb and Ten. The tension between these two was unstoppable in the previous Getaway novels. Now they have to put up or shut up. Amidst Cy Warner’s wedding, Webb is hauled away on bogus charges of robbing banks; his alibi is Ranger Tennyson McKenna. Thankfully she’s a rock solid alibi when security footage reveals a face identical to Webb’s commuting the crimes. With seemingly no one in his corner, Ten takes it upon herself to be his backup and try to help prove his innocence. Now she’s just got to get closer to him than she ever planned.
Webb’s lived a harsh life alongside his brother Wyatt. No father to speak of, a drug addict mother they left in their teens, and living on the streets in desperation. It’s a heartbreaking tale. But there’s redemption in this survivor. Webb may have been down some dark paths but his moral compass is solidly north. Ten is there first person, besides his brother, to see that in Webb. Determined to keep her by his side as they attempt to clear his name, Webb reveals the darkest parts of himself. If she can withstand those maybe he can be worthy of her when the dust settles. But the threat against Webb’s life adds a heavier tension than either of them planned on withstanding. And it’s threatening to break them when they’ve just begun.
Filled with twists and turns, Runaround will keep you guessing until the last minute. You think Webb and Ten were a tease, Wyatt’s got a secret I NEED to hear more about (give me his story woman)! There’s also an additional sneak peek into her character Case Lawson from the upcoming Loveless Texas series who is smoooking hot. A great callback to the Getaway series to prepare for the southern drama coming your way soon!
So wow. You would never think these two would be perfect for each other but they are. Webb is a man with a very ruff past. He is a survivor. Ten is one strong women. Who now knows what she wants. When the past comes back to get Webb. Ten stays by his side. Loved this book to peaces. It is a must read. Thank you Jay for another awesome page turning book!!!!
Loved Webb and Ten’s story. Jay always delivers great stories and this one doesn’t disappoint. The Runaround has a great plot twist that will have your head spinning.
This series!!!! I have devoured books 1-4 in 6 days….yes you are reading that correctly!
Runaround held true to its title! Webb had done so much running in his life….let me preface that we were first introduced to him in Retreat (he was a secondary character). I was curious about him while reading it and was so anxious to get his story. Him and Ten were a perfect pairing! Ten was such a bada^^!!!! I love when authors can take a female lead and give her that tough as nails attitude but also have that soft side. Ms. Crownover nailed every aspect of the relationship development between Webb and Ten.
Two observations/notes I made while reading:
1) Butterflies galore at 43%…..
2) I really hope we get a story about Sheriff Case Lawton
Okay, now I’m sharing a fav quote:
“You took my breath away, I’ve been trying to catch it ever since”
I can’t stop at one, because….well, because….
“Let yourself be the star he can follow when everything else in his life is dark”
So this was a fantastic edition to this series! The angst and unknown kept me turning page after page intently waiting for more. The twists and turns were great. Loved how Tennyson finally got her HEA!!!! It was so right to have her and Webb together. It just shows again how love knows no age or boundry only feeling. I loved this story so much. It was sexy and had so many feels…..I hope that we get Wyatt’s story soon and I see more spin off series that could happen……..I can’t wait for more
I absolutely love everything Jay writes!! Runaround was no different, I was so hyped for it after reading the ending of Escape and grouchy that I’d have to wait almost a year, if I’d ever get Ten and Webb’s story. I’m so glad she wrote it and boy was it a wild ride. I’m not saying more cause I’m afraid to spoil, but Jay has such a way with words and I’m so glad I’ve been with her from her first series!!
Jay Crownover always writes beautifully…this series was so much more!!! I’ve read all four books and couldn’t wait for Webb & Ten’s story!
Both characters are so complex. Tens a tough cookie with lots of cracks, wrapped up in a gorgeous package.
Webb is fun, loyal, gorgeous, charming and the strong willed Ten is a bullseye on his radar.
The Runaround was filled with so much suspense, action, drama, sexiness….it definitely grabbed me, pulled me in and didn’t let up until the very last page! You’ll get twins, long lost family, horrible parents, ex’s. This one has it all.
I can’t wait for Wyatt & Rodies book, fingers crossed it’s soon!
Highly recommended
Everything you expect and more!
I was waiting for this book like crazy, and now that I read it… Wow!
Runaround is everything you expect in a book by Jay, a handsome man, a beautiful woman and a hot, very hot, romance.
Webb is a sexy troublemaker who grew under terrible conditions, and did everything he could to make a life for himself. Ten is a beautiful intelligent woman that works in law enforcement, she was once ambitious, but came back home when the man she trusted blindly hurt her. Web is everything Ten is trying to avoid.
Ten and Webb’s attraction is immediate, and when they placed their past and reservations in the back burner… Fireworks and love of epic proportions come around.
The cliffhanger in Escape with Webb getting arrested was the best cliffhanger because it one, wrapped up the current story and didn’t drag it out but two gave you something to look forward to. You knew Webb and Ten would eventually get a story and didn’t mind waiting for it. Kind of like this Epilogue where you know Wyatt is going to get a story and hopefully it’s with the straight line sheriff of Sheridan.
Webb and Ten both had pasts that shaped them into the well guarded people they were when they met. Webb kept everyone at a distance with his flirtatious and gypsy ways, while Ten kept everyone at a distance with her matter of fact attitude and closed off heart. However when they came together and you saw how much Ten actually cared for Webb it was a story you couldn’t put down. Another amazing story from Jay Crownonver!
Jay Crownover always writes a wonderful book, and her characters are so perfectly imperfect. Why do bad boys always get me? Webb is phenomenal. I loved his and Ten’ s relationship.
I was stuck in an awful reading rut, so thank god for this book. It got me through it.
Absolutely amazing story. I loved it so much. It was everything I have come to love about this series and more!!
Okay, I don’t know why I’ve been dragging my feet to read this series, but this is the first I’ve read and I wasn’t lost. I do regret the wait, though, and plan on diving right into the rest! Ten and Webb seem like opposites, he’s trouble and she’s the law. She’s steady and he’s wild. They’re both broken, scarred, and needing someone to really love and see them. I like the suspense and action throughout as well as the small town feel, with how all the characters are all up in each other’s business. Now back to book one to start from the start!
