What a wonderful variation this book was to end one year and ring in the new one! I found the plot, characterizations and overall premise of the story funny, touching and intriguing. The chaos that ensues in the Bennet household after the Netherfield ball, when Mr. Bennet is severley injured, was riveting! Thank goodness Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley were there when Mr. Collins made his move on Elizabeth…the obsequious toad!
Mr. Bingley was definitely a hero for more than just Jane! I loved his role in bringing together Darcy’s family to support him as he deals with the shock of Elizabeth’s rejection. I also liked how he handled his sister, Caroline. Yes, Caroline certainly was her shrewish self and then some!
Then there is the dastardly Wickham, and how he manipulates rumours to his advantage to cause the most damage. Oh Elizabeth is brilliant in dealing with him! However, he is not the only one trying to manipulate things. Enter stage left, Lady Catherine with a single-minded purpose and an agenda! Oh the twist with her was definitely one I have never read before!
The Colonel and Miss Georgiana play a larger role in this story that added humour and angst to the tale. Anne deBourgh too quietly slips into the story with amazing grace.
But Darcy and Elizabeth are at the center of this story and they are shown at their best and worst. Their conversations are so well written and their growth believeable. Their journey to each other makes for a satisfying read that you don’t want it to end. I could definitely see further stories being developed from this book. Hint, hint….
A fun twist to the P&P world.
It’s okay. But it feels forced and the characters are fairly two dimensional.
I really enjoyed this different rendition of P&P. All the original characters but with a totally new twist and it was fun to read!
What an interesting twist on an old favorite. I love this author’s imagination. I thought I might not really enjoy this new version, but it was delightful.
This book was a LOT of fun to read. The author takes some of our favorite characters and changes an event near the beginning of the story. Of course this affects how everything else happens. I laughed aloud several times while reading it and I especially enjoyed how the author incorporated some of my favorite lines from P&P. I’m waiting for the author’s other novels to be available as ebooks.
Great spin on the classic. Plausible alternate story lines. Only one negative- too wordy in some places, but I did enjoy the book overall,
A very interesting alternative to the original. I Liked it very much.
The characters you know and love with a completely different storyline. I was expecting very different twists and turns, but the author knew exactly where this was going.
I really enjoyed this book. Hard to put down.
Great fun if a bit improbable.
Loved reconnecting with the Pride and Prejudice characters under a bit different story line. Very entertaining.
If you love Pride and Prejudice variations, you will love this!
It was a nice read for a bus commute, but I still prefer the original. I found most of the characters believable with exception to Georgiana, who I found melodramatic and a bit over the top.
With Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book I am enjoying the numerous new rewrites of the story and am glad they all have Elizabeth and Darcy always end up together but not necessarily the other characters. If you love P & P you will enjoy this version.
I’m about half way through it. I do not find it that easy to read and it is definetly not a page turner. I can go several days w/out opening it. I will finish it but would not recommend it.
A redo with some interesting changes. Some “facts” have been changed to make it a bit less predictable. If you like Jane Austin, you will like because her characters are still somewhat the same.
I found it tedious. Not as good as the original.
Similar to the original but different enough to be a good read. A little more on the thought processes of Darcy, Mr. Collins, etc. that I enjoyed.
As a lover of Lizzie and Fitzwilliam Darcy, I enjoy seeing new takes on their lives. Whether it is a continuing story or a reimagining of what could have happened like this book. The characters feel true to Austen’s world – at least enough that I don’t throw the book across the room in annoyance! A fun read for P&P Lovers.
