My life was boring until I met him.Painfully tedious, pathetically lonely, and I absolutely hated it.But I was too scared to do anything about it. Too scared to change . . . at least until I met Kace.I should have been terrified of him—scared of his size (he towered over my short, curvy self), freaked out by the fierce tats covering his arms and torso (they even crawled up his neck), and … up his neck), and definitely frightened by the angry scowl he unleashed on anyone who dared to disrupt him (though this happened rarely, it still did happen).
Except, Kace seemed to like me—shy, boring, socially inept me. He couldn’t change the tats or the towering, but he rarely unleashed his trademark scowl on me.
Okay, so maybe it was more like he tolerated me, but regardless, Kace didn’t seem to care that I hung around the bar he worked at, putting my night owl tendencies to work as I wrote.
See, my work was the only place I explored. My safe place to write as dirty and steamy and kinky of books as I wanted.
My readers loved them—loved the hot sex, the tough alphas, the guaranteed happy endings. As thus, I made good money, only somewhat because I was a decent writer, but mostly because my imagination was very active, beyond active . . . some might even say too active.
As for me personally? I’d never experienced anything close to the types of things I wrote.
But I’d decided it was time to change that.
With scowly, sexy, terrifying Kace.

Kace was a pretty stereotypical male model these days for romance book. Big, muscled, and tattooed and it was interesting to see how Brooke used that for her books.
This was the first book I’ve read from this author, and honestly, I’d never heard of her before. However, it will not be my last. I really enjoyed this book! I was sucked into the story right away and my attention was held the entire time! I didn’t get bored or skim through any of it! I liked the characters, pacing was perfect, and the ending was fitting! So glad I found this author!
A quick, sweet romance with a little spice and a lot of heart. I loved the premise and connection between the characters. Their chemistry and willingness to seize happiness was heartwarming and healing. Although complicated pasts and personal complexities were mentioned, the story lacked depth in addressing these. While I would have gladly read a full-sized novel of their story, I still enjoyed this!
Rum and Notes is the first book by this author that I have had the enjoyment of reading. I love reading shy Brooke and her muse Kace’s story. Brooke is a shy author who spend her time at a bar with bartender Kace as her muse for the book she is working on. I found the story to be sweet and looking forward to reading more from this author.
Such a great story intro! This definitely had me invested and I could not put this book down. The characters were interesting, the story moved along quickly but worked well. I loved that they spent time getting to know each other. Kace and Brooke were such great characters and I cannot wait to see what happens with Brent and his mystery woman. 5 star read for sure!
I love Brooke . That’s it.
Okay, maybe I should expand LOL but there’s not much detail I can give you. The story is pretty short(ish) but delicious in all the right ways! It made me happy to read about shy Brooke and alpha Kace. They made a fun couple. An odd pairing that worked ridiculously well!
I’m loving Elise Faber more and more with each story I read. I’m beginning to turn to her more and more when I need a quick, well written story and that makes me happy! If you read like I do, you need quite a few go-to authors and she’s made it on that list!
4.5 Stars
I gobbled this book right up. It was a fast read for me and I finished in one day. I really couldn’t put it down. I loved Brooke and Kace. Their banter was one of my favorite parts of the book. Brooke is my kind of people. I would want to hang out with her any day. I really loved Kace. Boy is he yummy and he has quite a few swoon worthy moments. I highly recommend taking a ride of their journey. You won’t be disappointed! I also like the set up for the next book. It has me already eagerly awaiting it!
This book is the first book that I’ve read by this author and I absolutely loved it. It’s a fun quick read that I read in one go.This book is the first book in this series and I can’t wait to read more.
This book is a Love after Midnight novel #1.
Brooke is a romance writer who’s very quiet and shy and loves doing her work where she feels most comfortable which at the moment is the bar at night, it also helps that the barman is smoking hot Kace. Bobby’s is a place where she comes to write because of her very loudly snoring neighbor.
Brooke is a beautiful gorgeous woman who thinks she’s just normal, perfectly fine, no where near as beautiful and sexy as some.
Kace is the extremely hot sexy tattooed bar man who’s loving and sweet and is also a total alpha male Kace is beautiful, sexy and he’s protective. He has also been secretly crushing on Brooke for a while even though she hasn’t noticed. Kace can have any woman he wants but he wants her, Brooke.
( NO SPOILERS).
I really enjoyed reading this book right from the beginning and I wanted to see how the story unfolds between Brooke and Kace and they have a great connection to. She is very beautiful but doesn’t see it herself. She has also had done tragedy in her life to. This author has written these characters awesomely and I wished that this story was longer because it was fabulous. This book is a Hot sexy steamy read a real slow burn romance and it will leave you desperate for more. I couldn’t put this book down the whole way through. I will definitely read more of this authors work in the future.
I will definitely recommend this book this book when it gets released.
Thank you to the author and publishers for allowing me to read an early copy of this book.
ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
This book is expected to be released 15th March 2020.
Brooke has caught Kace’s eye and she has no idea. She’s just been working on her writing while at his bar, using him as her muse, making him into the heroes in all her romances. Little does the shy writer know, but Kace has been crushing on her since she first started coming in. Now all he has to do, is find the right time to make his move.
This is such a sweet, sexy story. I love the contrast between shy Brooke and alpha sweetheart Kace. Their connection is really strong, and their chemistry is hot. You can’t ask for more in a good romance.
I received a complimentary ARC – early release copy of this book in Kindle format from the author for review purposes.
This is a novella size romance between a romance author, Brooke and the bartender, Kace where she writes and hangs out every night. It was a sweet and HOT romance and I really enjoyed it and loved the characters. It has a military aspect to it, so if you like a good military romance you will enjoy it as well.
Brooke is an author and to escape a noisy neighbor she finds a bar where she can write her book, a romance and its very erotic and the star is her bartender, Kace. She has a major thing for him but she thinks he is just polite to her, until he discovers her hot imagination and he wants her to go out with him.
She thinks he is too sexy for her, but what she doesn’t know if that Kace wants more. He wants someone and he wants that to be Brooke. But can he make her see that? Brooke is pretty alone as well, as her military brother died and they were both orphans. So she is looking for something as well.
Rum and Notes is book 1 in the new series
Love after Midnight series by Elise Faber. It is about a shy romance author named Brooke McAlister who spends her nights writing her book at a bar and the bartender at the bar named Kace is her inspiration for her heroes in her stories.
This is a really good yet short story. It’s steamy, sweet, cute and just delicious. Kace and Brooke are made for each other! The feels are huge in this story. I will say that I do wish that we had more time with the main characters to get more time together with them; otherwise, good read.
My Rating: 4.4 stars *******
Wow! LOVED this book. Kace and Brooke are hot! Brooke looking for somewhere to write her books chooses a bar down the street. Her neighbor is quite distracting. For 6 months she sits at the bar and types at her computer. Kace, the bartender being her main source of inspiration. Sweet story of the HOT guy and the nerdy girl who fit perfectlyt together. Hard to put down!
This is the 1st in a new series and what a fantastic introduction this is! Brooke is shy and quiet and is an author who goes to a local bar to write, where sexy barman Kace is her inspiration although he does not know that. Kace can have any woman he wants but his eye is set on Brooke, and when he gets the opportunity, he goes for it. No spoilers: this is an absolute must read, you will not be disappointed. This is a beautifully written tale which is a slow burn romance, as well as being a fun, entertaining and steamy read. I was captivated throughout this riveting story, and I cannot wait to read more from this gifted author whose work I highly recommend for all readers.
I absolutely loved this hot, sexy story! It captured me from the first page! I couldn’t put it down! I loved Brooke and Kace! She’s a shy romance writer and he’s a hot, sexy bartender that she uses as her muse.
When he finds out her hero is based on him all bets are off! He’s going to make her his! I loved this story! This series is off to a great start! I can’t wait for the next book in the Love After Midnight series!
Rum and Notes manages sexy and serious. Faber is at her best when she keeps her voice simple and her emotions high. Brooke is more than the quiet girl with the fearful eyes. She lives in a secret world of racy fantasies and unfulfilled lust. Escape is her friend and when it comes to temptation, nobody can heat her blood like Kace. Can she get the star of her fantasies to bring her wild side into the light? Faber steps out of her comfort zone to rock the hearts of her die hard fans.
I adored this delightful romance. Brooke and Kace’s story was incredibly fun, sweet, steamy and cute. I think that this is a book that was really crafted with romance readers in mind and as such it was very easy to connect with and fall for. This is a shorter length read but a very satisfying one. Sure, I would have loved to spend more time with this wonderful couple but I never felt cheated or let down because this story didn’t deliver because that was just not the case. This is my elective, candid review.
Rum and Notes is a fantastic start to this new series. I loved every moment of this quick read. You will not want to put it down because it is so hot. Brooke is a bit shy but you will love her so much. Then there is Kace the hot bartender but yet so much more. He maybe Brooke’s muse for her books but he doesn’t disappoint when those two are together. There is just this sweetness about Kace and Brooke that you will just love. By the time you finish this one you will have a big smile on your face. I can’t wait for more.
I loved this short read! It was funny and sweet!
Brooke is anything but boring!
Author Brooke McAlister needed to find a place that was open late and allowed her to write for hours on her laptop and she found it at her local bar which helped because she was night owl. Brooke never showed anybody her writing but when the bartender opened up her laptop he found out that she was using him as inspiration in her writing. Kace was interested in Brooke and reading her writing allowed him an opportunity to actually ask her out. Brooke thought she was boring and didn’t think gorgeous guys would like her but talking to Kace for six months was a way of getting to know each other before dating.
Rum & Notes is a very good contemporary by Elise Faber that everyone needs to read because it’s a good story about Brooke finding out that Kace wants to ask her out.
I would give it 4 ½ stars if I could!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Since discovering Elise Faber, I’ve found my happy place reading her books. “Rum and Notes” her latest release is a deliciously sweet, slow burn romance that will leave you smiling from page 1.
Brooke is a thirty something, stuck in the eighties, curvaceous redheaded, romance writer. Needing a place to write she takes up residence at a bar not to far from her apartment. The bar provides her with the perfect spot to work and it provides inspiration for her alpha male characters.
Kace – sexy bartender extraordinaire, has no problem getting attention from the ladies, except it would seem, from the one woman he’s been pining after for the last six months. Patient to a fault, he waits to strike. When the opportunity presents itself, he takes advantage of it.
Brooke writes romance but has never experienced it first hand, until Kace.
Kace has never had a family or a woman who cares for him, until Brooke.
Together they become what the other needs, wants, craves, deserves – a match made in romance writing heaven. TBR this fantastic book and fall in love with Brooke and Kace. (I read an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.)
