Davey’s Revised Rule #1: A good Daddy will love his boy with all his heart.Davey Hendrickson doesn’t mind being forever single when he’s got his bestie at his side. It’s not that he wants to be single. He’s spent most of his adult life searching for his own perfect Daddy. Even if he’s not naturally submissive, someone that fabulous is obviously meant to be a boy… right? Over the years, he’s dated … Over the years, he’s dated every type of Daddy imaginable but not one of them could come close to meeting the requirements from his ridiculous list of rules.
After losing his husband, Sammy Robustelli has learned to be strong while raising two children on his own. No matter what life has thrown his way, nothing seems too hard with his best friend and roomie Davey at his side. When the two friends learn that people believe they’re a couple, they can’t help but laugh. The very idea is a big joke… until it isn’t.
It only takes a few wake-up calls before Davey wonders what happens if a guy might be in love with the best friend he can never have. It could never work for a pair of boys in need of a bossy top, right? Except… maybe Davey doesn’t know himself—or Sammy—as well as he thinks.
This is the final book in a series about not-so-perfect Daddies, adorable “boys,” and one sassy brat with an insane list of rules. Grab your fan and tissues because this series comes with both a high heat advisory and all the squishy feels you’d want from a Susan Hawke book.

I think this has to be at the top of the list in this series. Maybe I really enjoyed it because of Davey. His character makes me happy. He is so snarky and loving. He handles things so well I can’t resist smiling when listening to him talk. Davey and Sammy end up in a relationship before they realize it. They both handle the family life together that I can’t imagine them not being together. I love the discussion about the rules. I laughed at Davey trying to ignore everyone’s opinion he might be a daddy. This is the topping of the cake for this series.
After four books of watching Davey search for his perfect daddy, making his list grow with each encounter, we get to see Davey discover his perfect match. Being each other’s support, confidant, and cheerleader for years has blinded Davey and his BFF Sammy to how much deeper their feelings are. Davey’s connection to the kids impressed me; he loves them so deeply that he’s a natural dad to them. He loved Rafe almost as much as Sammy did and is very mindful of Sammy’s feelings as they navigate their new life together. I loved that, while Sammy holds Rafe’s love in his heart, he honors Rafe’s final words and makes room to love Davey.
Highly recommended author and series
Audio: clear and smoothly read
Rules to Ignore is the seventh book in the Davey’s Rules series. Although it could be read as a standalone, I highly suggest reading the first six books in the series in order to truly enjoy this one.
Finally Davey finds his match! I was so excited for Sammy and Davey when they finally opened their eyes and realized they were perfect for each other. I really enjoyed this book, especially seeing how much Davey has grown and matured as a character but without losing that sass and sparkle that makes him so delightful and funny. Sammy’s balance between being a father to two kids and a boy was well done. It was also really sweet to see how Raphael’s memory was kept alive and honored throughout the book. His passing was painful, but Susan Hawke didn’t shy away from the grief. Instead, she showed how grief can fade into an ache, but it’s still possible to live your life without forgetting your lost loved one. There were quite a few times where I teared up while my heart melted at those sweet moments.
This was a perfect conclusion to the Davey’s Rules arc. I look forward to the book eight which is a collection of short stories featuring the characters as well as the spinoff series.
With pain in my heart, I started the final book of this absolutely fabulous Daddy/boy series.
I can spoil there will be more because there will be a spin-off (yes, YES!)
All these books are just the best!
So here we are, dear dear Davey who never found his own Daddy. With all those rules it seemed impossible but, fasten your seatbelts because oh my goodness!
Davey has high self-esteem, he thinks he’s fabulous (I think he is right!)
Sammy and Davey are besties, living with Sammy and his two children Milo and Samantha was a natural thing.
The world around them think they are an item, they laugh and laugh about it.
They are just the best princess and diva together.
When Davey and Sammy got a sort of reality-check they put every card open on the table like the open and honest guys they always are with each other and oh my, that was something special! They gave me goosebumps and a thick throat.
This final installment was everything!
A series with a lot of bratty attitudes, amazingly fun and humor, heartbreaking moments, moments with laughter and tears, a series with quite an emotional charge, overwhelmingly dedication and determination and unconditional love!
Highly recommended!
It was interesting to see the Davy we have watched and love through the series start to question everything he thought about himself. His friendship with Sammy and their closeness is reinforced at the beginning of the story. As Davy starts to except a new self view there is also a shift in how he views his relationship with Sammy as well. It was satisfying to see them come together and begin to make something new.
I’ve read this entire series and I’ve been waiting for Davey to get his own story.
After the heartbreak of losing a main character in a previous book, seeing the healing that takes place between the men in this story just gives me hope. I don’t want to give too much away if someone hasn’t read the series, so I won’t name names, but trust me, if you like M/M romance and Daddy kink in particular, this series and this book is a must. Kudos to Susan Hawke for creating this world.
Everyone needs a Davey in their lives! Cute and sassy and takes no crap – but does he actually need a Daddy? This is the story we all needed to have – it’s been building up through the whole series and it couldn’t have been better put together. This just goes to show you that sometimes you friends can see what you can’t – and you need to listen to advice.
This is my review of the audio version:
This was a fun romance, with a lot to smile about. I loved the relationship between Davey and Sammy. It was great how everyone else realized that the men were more than friends before they did themselves. Davey had an incredibly easy time moving away from the things he’d thought he wanted when he made his massive list of rules, but I was happy to see him embrace his new desires. And Sammy was a wonderful friend, father, and lover. I adored this story.
The narrator was terrific, as always. He is especially great with humorous moments, which is why he’s a favorite for me.
A good story and a solid performance make this an entertaining listen. Recommended!
Story: 4.5 stars
Unlike the previous book Rules to Ignore is a complete book that doesn’t jump around, and I loved it. Wow! I might have been slightly mad at a few turn of events (Raphael), but I couldn’t stay mad after reading this book. Sammy and Davey are back, and they are clueless. LOL. But I loved them. It takes everyone outside of their bubble to point out the obvious before they realize they might be more than just friends. The journey to get to that point and the journey of discovering what they really are is beautiful, hilarious, a little cringe-worthy, and utterly fabulous. I love that the author didn’t rush this. She was careful and took her time, like the roses in the backyard coming to bloom. And I loved the kiddos, and the fact the author wrote them the way she did. SJ reminded me exactly of my niece.
With realistic situations and the reactions to match, I thought this was a fabulous listen/read. Great characters, great story, great plot…read this book, you won’t regret it. There were a couple of parts where I just rolled my eyes, but those were few and far between. Plus, don’t you want to know what happens after book 6? 4.5 stars for the story.
Narration: 4.5 stars
Michael Dean has a way with these characters that bring them to life and make each one sound like their own person. None of the voices get lost, and they are brought to life. 4.5 stars.
Overall: 4.5 stars
This book and narration were good, and I thoroughly enjoyed both. This book is very character driven, and I loved them all. SJ even reminds me of my niece. How scary is that? LOL. I do highly recommend both the book and the audiobook. You will fall in love with Sammy and Davey, and then laugh at all the rules and the two-step these two guys perform in trying to figure out their relationship. It was a joy to listen to. 4.5 stars and I highly suggest you one-click today.

A Wonderful Conclusion to the Series!
I have not read all of the stories in the Davey’s Rules series but I wish I had. I’ve read enough of them to understand what the series is about so I wasn’t lost at all when I listened to Rules to Ignore. I do suggest reading this series in order for maximum enjoyment.
The blurb tells you everything you need to know about the book. I’ll tell you how much I loved it and how it made me feel. The story hit on all of my emotions. Davey is quite funny at times and so is Sammy. The voices that Michael Dean does for both of these characters are great. Davey is quite fabulous and Michael’s voice for him reflects that perfectly.
When people start assuming the Davey and Sammy are a couple it causes the two of them to reexamine their relationship. Davey has been there for Sammy through everything. His kids call him Uncle Davey but the truth is that he’s been more like another father to them. Davey seems to have a special touch when it comes to handling the teenage drama of Sammy’s daughter Samantha Jade. He is the voice of reason when Sammy wants to throttle Samantha when she does something stupid and potentially dangerous.
I really can’t say enough good things about this book and series. After reading the first one (for me it was book 3, Rules for Santa) I was really intrigued with Davey and couldn’t wait to read his story. I didn’t know that his book would be the last one is the series but it was definitely worth the wait. I now want to go back and read the other books in the series.
A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.

Oh, Diva Daddy!
I loved Davey and Sammy both separately and together they are a beautiful best-friends-to-lovers-to-Daddy/Boy story. I enjoyed the conclusion of the series and while I picked up on the hints very early on in the series Davey’s Diva Daddy transformation was so good. He’s a very unique character and while I was surprised that he had certain Daddy/Boy presumptions that seemed up like him, his eye-opening moments were fantastic.
I loved that Sammy got another chance at love and I loved that they both talked about Raf and acknowledge his presence. I loved Sammy and his submissive side was handled wonderfully by Davey and while it took a while for them to find their way together and their way to a Diva Daddy and Princess/Boy dynamic they find their way and it’s beautiful.
I loved the series and look forward to more in this world soon!

This is Davey’s book and it was worth the wait. Davey has always thought he was a boy but so many others think of him as a Daddy. When Davey realizes this, he must take some time and figure out just what is the truth. Could he be a Daddy after all and is his relationship with Sammy something more? Could it be more than a friendship between the two like everyone else imagines or will they each find love elsewhere?
I loved watching Davey grow throughout this series and was happy to see him finally find his happy ever after. Each of the men in this series have endeared themselves to this reader and none more than Davey. It was nice to see Sammy and Davey find their way. They are best friends that are always there for each other and always willing to have each other’s back no matter what. It was nice to see the two figure things out and push for what they want and need. I also enjoyed the interactions with the kids and seeing the four as a family from the start. Sammy is dealing with so much and finds solace with Davey. Their story is full of emotions and pulled me right in and kept me engaged all the way to the end. I am a fan of this series and this book was a nice way to end it.
I loved the ending to this series! It was absolutely written in the cards that Davey was a Daddy and his forever love was his BFF! After waiting for this book it didn’t let me down!
I loved reading about Davey and Sammy because I have loved them from all the previous books. I love their friendship and individual charachters, their banter and their lack of boundaries with each other.
Perhaps it’s because they were already so close, I didn’t really feel their getting together; it felt more of an enhanced friendship? or maybe, something so “natural” that I sort of didn’t feel the magic of romance.
This being said, it doesn’t mean I didn’t like the bok. On the contrary, it’s a funny, sweet, sort of comforting story; like a favourite blanket to wrap around you to feel cozy.
We have all waited for Davey to have his story told. Well WOW WOW WOW!!!! so worth the wait, so worth a reread to find the clues left behind. Also we all wanted Sammy to get a HEA and combining Davey and Sammy together was PERFECT and magical.
I’ve been waiting for Davey’s book since the beginning of the series, and it does not disappoint. Davey and Sammy are perfect for each other, it just takes them a while to figure that out. There’s some heat, but this is a true friends-to-lovers slow burn romance. If you’re looking for hard kink, this is the wrong series for you. It’s sweet and fairly angst-free. I enjoyed how Susan Hawke tied up almost all the loose ends and gave everyone their HEA.
Wow what a great conclusion to an amazing series! I fell in love with Davy from the first book and am so happy he gets his happy ending! Reading that both Sammy and Davy get a happy ending together is so fun! This was such a fun read to pick up from the past books int the series. The dynamic and growing relationship between these two is fun to read! Highly recommend and to read the others first!
Since I started the series I was anxiously expecting Davey’s story and Ms Hawke didn’t disappoint. I really enjoyed the self-discovery trip of Davey, alongside all his friends, learning a little bit of himself with every rule and every date experienced in all the previous books. Then after Sammy’s and Raph story in book 6 it was clear what was about to happen. So finally, this is it… Davey’s and Sammy’s story … The wait was worth it!! Loved it!!
Rules to Ignore by Susan Hawke is the seventh and final book in the Davey’s Rules series. This contemporary m/m romance with sexy Daddy kink finally gives us the lovestory of Davey and Sammy. Best friends to lovers – they have an amazing connection and I love how they could embrace their love while still remembering the past. This story was everything I could want for these characters. It definitely had me feeling the feels. Loved it!!
A LOT of banter – actually too much for me!
I could not connect with either Davey or Sammy, the lead characters in this friends to lovers story, though I did feel sorry for Sammy being left to raise two children on his own. This was the only book I read in the series and I just did not feel the romance. There was an awful lot of navel gazing and talk, talk, talk. The big first time together scene was SO long. The story started with promise but by the last half I ended up skimming frequently. Just too drawn out for me, especially all of Davey’s friends and colleagues setting him straight on what kind of partner would suit him best.
The family time, getting involved in school events and dealing with Sammy’s tween daughter, was a good addition to the plot, as was young kitchen worker Ethan’s plight: just not enough to make up for the slow pace. Raphael, Sammy’s sage former partner and the character I liked best, was actually dead!
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
