Davey’s Rule #86: A good Daddy will never lie to his boy… even by omission.Travis Miller has a pretty solid life in the small California beach town he calls home. He’s working his way up in the district attorney’s office, he owns a home with an ocean view, and he has close ties with his family. Life is good. If only he could find a sweet boy to call his own, life would be… perfect. Adam Nichols’ … perfect.
Adam Nichols’ life has never been easy. Growing up in foster care taught him to be strong, so finding himself in a violent relationship was a shock. Now that he’s finally free of it, he faces new problems. He’s jobless, homeless, and terrified of starting from scratch.
With a little help from an old friend, Adam discovers a whole new world. He goes from rock bottom to renting a room from a hot assistant DA and working at Daddy’s Lap, a kink club that opens his vanilla eyes to things he’d never imagined. His new roommate is a balm to Adam’s damaged soul. The tender way Travis cares for him is almost like the Daddy kink community he’s seen at the club. But Travis isn’t a Daddy… right? If he were, surely he’d have said so.
What happens when a lie by omission threatens to bring their budding relationship tumbling down around them? Will Travis ever be able to earn Adam’s trust again?
This is the first book in a new series about not-so-perfect Daddies, adorable “boys,” and one sassy brat with an insane list of rules. Grab your fan and tissues because this series comes with both a high heat advisory and all the squishy feels you’d want from a Susan Hawke book. Possible trigger for references to domestic violence.

My heart bled a little for Adam. He has been through so much but is so undeniably strong. Travis is a strong, giving character. As for Davey, I love his flamboyance and just honest to good, kind heartedness. This story was well written with a plot that just flows. I loved getting to meet so many characters. Even with mention of so many other characters, the main characters of this story were not lost. Loved it.
I loved this story! Daddy is always my favourite kink, and when matched with a hurt/comfort theme of domestic violence by the ex-boyfriend, it was just the perfect read for me.
Adam is so sweet and young, but so strong and resilient, too. Travis is just the perfect caretaking Daddy, although in the beginning he makes the mistake of not coming clean about his kink with Adam for fear of scaring him off.
These two men are so perfect together that I can’t even express how cute they are!
This is the beginning of a new series, I loved all the crew surrounding Adam and Travis in this book, and I can’t wait to read more!
Where to start. This book took me by surprise. I wasn’t expecting to love it so much, so much so that I read it in a day, which I haven’t done that with a book in a little while. Travis was the perfect Daddy. Caring, nurturing, but far from perfect when he keeps that part of himself secret from Adam. His intentions were good, but we know how all good intentions are. Adam is finally getting his life back on track after escaping an extremely bad relationship. He discovers desires he has in wanting a Daddy of his very own after working at Daddy’s Lap. This is an amazingly sweet, low angst read except for a couple of spots in the book. Davey. Man, what can I say about his character? He’s sassy, adorable, and totally over the top. He definitely brought a smile to my face many times. I enjoyed this book immensely and cannot wait to read the next book in this series. If you love a good Daddy/boy book, you definitely need to give this one a try.
I’m reviewing the audio edition. This is the first book I’ve listened to/read by this author. Right from the first paragraph I was laughing. Davey is a delight. His coming across as snarky in such a funny way is endearing. Davey has rules while looking for a daddy. I believe they were up to 85 in this story. Yet he also has this protective side that makes him behave like a daddy so there is that conflict in his personality. When his abused collage roommate shows up at his place he takes him in, finds him a job, a place to stay and introduces him to Travis. Adam and Travis’s story is almost fairytale like but sure is enjoyable. Also since Davey has had a date with Travis it is funny that Adam is the one that is attracted to him. I loved the ending where Davey even tries to date Bryan, Travis’s brother, and how that date went is a story of its own. Michael Dean adds so much to this story. He really brings it to life.
Travis and Adam were a terrific introduction to this series. I admired Adam’s strength as he leaves his violent ex and makes his own way in a new life. He wants and needs to stand on his own feet but he’s also smart to accept the help of those around him. Travis is the epitome of a caretaker. He desperately wants to make Adam’s life smoother, removing obstacles and problems. I liked that he stands aside until Adam asks, letting Adam dictate the stride of their relationship.
The side characters are a bonus; especially drama king Davey. The view of so many different types of relationships in the club kept Travis and Adam’s unique as opposed to cliche.
Highly recommended author
Audiobook: Clear and smoothly told.
Davey’s Rules is a new series by author Susi Hawke writing under her contemporary romance penname Susan Hawke. Hawke is well known for her fluffy books filled with hot sex scenes, adorable couples, and a bunch of snark and romance. “Rules to Follow”, the first book in the Davey’s Rules series, delivers on everything that the Hawke brand promises while furthering exploring the more kinky side of Hawke.
Davey is a bartender at the exclusive Daddy’s Lap club, a BDSM club focused on the Daddy/boy kink. Davey is on the search for his perfect Daddy and has created a list of rules that his perfect match will have to fit. The list is at 89 rules with more pending – so of course it’s going to be a nearly impossible task for Davey to find his perfect Daddy. On his relationship quest, Davey goes on a date with Travis, a Daddy Dom who breaks three of Davey’s rules within the first fifteen minutes of their date. However, Davey and Travis become friends and Davey soon sets Travis up with his friend, Adam. Poor darling Adam. He’s a lost man trying to survive an abusive boyfriend, until finally he’s had a enough. Adam escapes to Davey’s home where Adam’s life finally changes for the better.
The slow burn and steady building of the relationship between Travis and Adam was sweet and adorable. Even the sex scenes were scorching hot with a side of cuteness. I never knew how much I needed a romantic scene of a Daddy Dom hand feeding his boy while cuddling. My breath literally caught in my chest, it was so darn hot and sweet.
Hawke’s writing has steadily improved since her first book, and I felt that her writing style was pretty smooth in this book. Davey’s characterization was a bit over-the-top and sometimes flirted with being a caricature, but although it toed the line, I didn’t feel like the line was crossed. I hope Davey’s character gets more depth and development as the series goes on. Overall, I really enjoyed this series and hit all my kink buttons just right. If you haven’t liked other Susan Hawke books or don’t like Daddy kink, then I suggest you skip this book.
I love how this story show another good example of your kink isn’t my kink and just because two people aren’t a good fit doesn’t mean that they won’t fit with someone else. Everyone has to decide what they need and to work what works between and the one they are building a relationship with. I also like how this story highlights how true friendship works, reaching beyond time and contact level.
loved it!!!
Travis and Adam are so perfect for each other!!!
I love how their relationship progressed from roommates to Daddy/boy…
Travis was everything Adam needed bit didn’t know… great book
This was a great read! I enjoyed all the characters (except the evil ex of course). I really loved Davey, I cannot wait to see who he ends up with for a daddy. Adam and Travis were a match made in heaven. They completed each other perfectly. I also liked the the relationship was a slow build up. Even though this is a “daddy” book, it’s not really age play, more of a untiring and caring type of daddy-boy relationship. Very good story! Cannot recommend enough!!
This book was an amazing read! I was hooked after the first page! I love the list of rules that Davey keeps in mind on dates! I’m glad that Travis and Adam met (through Davey) and that they all have a great group of family and friends surrounding them. I am so eager for the next books in this series and can’t wait to read more of Davey! If you love Susan Hawke books definitely read this one!

An emotionally gripping, poignant and healing story!!
This story is so real and authentic it will grab your heart from the start. Knowing this story has so much of Susan in it makes it even more enthralling and emotional. The story follows Adam, as he gets the courage to leave an abusive partner and turn to an old friend, Davey, to help start his life again. The story is witty, humorous and real, with characters that are so unique and just totally loveable, I couldn’t put the book down.
The journey these characters go through is authentic and realistic and with the help of Davey, eye-opening and a little kinky LOL. I loved Adam and Travis and their connection. I enjoyed watching them grow and find their kink together. I enjoyed the healing elements and ultimate care Travis has for Adam. I was frustrated when there was a lie of omission and felt the ‘betrayal’ but understand why and thought Susan approached this character development really well and in a real-world way rather than the dramatic ways we can sometimes expect from a romance.
Adam and Travis are perfect together, they just fit! I found their connection organic and really enjoyed their journey. All the secondary characters Susan has created are fantastic and there are so many I want to know more about and I can’t wait for Davey and Travis’ brother Brian’s story up next. I love this collection of characters and hope there will be many more stories from Davey and his tribe!!!!

This is a new author to me and I will definitely be reading more from her!! Finding love and understanding is what all of us are looking for and Adam can’t seem to find it anywhere but in his ex college dorm mate, Davey. But Adam and Davey drift apart after only a short time but when Adam is fleeing an abusive boyfriend in the middle of the night he turns to Davey his one true friend that he knows always has his back. Davey has a little kink that he introduces Adam to and he take to it like he has always wanted it- he wants a Daddy.
In comes Travis and his failed attempt at dating Davey but he is the perfect person to help Adam out and he has a room that he rents out to Adam. Things begin to heat up between Travis and Adam but Travis has been omitting the one thing that makes him who he is, will Adam be able to forgive his lis of omission? What will Adam do when he is confronted by his ex? Fabulous start to the series and I can’t wait for the next installment of this series!!!
Sweet Daddy Kink!
Adam and Travis
For anyone who liked the Lovestrong series, you will call in love with Davey’s Rules series. The cast of characters is eclectic perfection.
In the town of Santa Cruz, we are introduced to Davey who is on the hunt for the perfect Daddy. In this story Davey helps his dear friend, Adam escape an abusive relationship by setting him as the housemate to a Daddy dom, Travis, who ends up being exactly what Adam needs.
This book is fast paced with excellent characters and world building. I cannot wait to see what Daddy Davey tries for next.

I received a free copy of this book via LesCourt and am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
Davey needs to meet up with Oscar by Lucy Lennox.
Davey is a sweet man and has the most wonderful friends. Unfortunately none of the are the Daddy he needs but when you can be the best matchmaker you can wait your turn.
Susan has started a new series that will keep you laughing, wanting more and totally invested in not only the main characters but all the secondary ones too.
We all want someone to look after us – or is it ourselves to care of someone? It’s what we all dream of – right?!
I loved this book. From the start I was intrigued and enthralled – it has a funny and cute storyline and it is so hot it needs its own fire blanket.
I loved Travis and Adams story and even though I knew Travis would mess up, I loved the way he apologised – once Davey had a talk to him. Where would we be without our Davey friends?
Btw talking if Davey – I adored his rules. In particular rule number 74 and if course rule number 28 is a must. But the most important rule? It has to be number 41 cos everyone needs someone to help with 41.
I’m praying this is a fabulous start to a new series and if so I’m jumping up and down with excitement like Davey or Mikey is.
I have a good friend who reminds me of Davey and i read his lines with my friends voice in my head – which was funny and weird at the same time! Maybe we all have a Davey in our lives? I know I’m blessed to have my Davey X
I am volunteering to leave a review of this book
Seriously Enjoyable Read!
Adam is fresh out of a relationship that was toxic and abusive. He ran from his ex in the middle of the night to his friend from college- Davey. (Oh my, Davey is a character and a half! I loved that in an ensemble of characters, Davey stands out- he is a Superstar!) He begins to work in a club with special clientele and discovers a new way of life he was missing before. Travis is the ultimate Daddy, who is caring, nurturing, and an all-around good guy. His relationship with Adam is tender, and I love their banter back and forth. The slow draw to bring Adam and Travis together is such an enjoyable journey to the reader- kudos to Susan Hawke for bringing such humanity to these characters!
The secondary characters in this book are as lifelike and well nuanced as the main characters without losing the storyline while sharing their own stories. That is rare and great fun to read. In fact, I find myself wanting to read more about Landon and Mikey, Davey, and will Bryan meet someone who will make him settle down?
I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an enjoyable, light hearted read. Oh, and anyone who is an animal lover will adore this book!
I really liked this story from this new to me author Susan Hawke. Adam is younger man who is fallen to rock bottom and is literally starting over and needing direction after an abusive relationship. Travis is a little bit older and is looking for a younger man to help and guide. These two are perfect for each other. You also have a good friend of Adam’s named Davey who also previously went on a date with Travis. Davey is an interesting side character because he has all of these rules about how a good daddy should be. I am sure he will be a main character is a future book. Davey gets Adam working at a high end Daddy/boy Kink club which is an interesting setting. I have not read many books that take place in that kind of setting. There are few misunderstandings that do add angst to this book but they overcome them in the end to get a HEA. This book is well written and if you are like daddy kink M/M stories, I would highly recommend. I was given an ARC of this book.
I really really enjoyed this read. Travis and Adam are perfect for each other. Daveys rules are funny but quirky. A great first book in a brand new Daddy Boy series
I absolutely loved this! There is some drama, lots of humor, tons of sweetness and a good dose of daddy kink. The characters are loveable and pull you in. The story interesting and easy to read. And I can not wait for the next book.
I received an advanced reader’s copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
