Davey’s Rule #91: Daddy never loses faith in his boy.Bryan Miller is satisfied with his uncomplicated life. He’s a discipline Daddy who’s not in the market for any kind of permanent relationship. And why should he be? Like the waves he surfs in the small beach town he calls home, there’s always another body available to warm his bed when he tires of the current flavor of the week. Preston Wallace … week.
Preston Wallace is a snotty rich brat with enough attitude to keep all the Daddies from giving him a chance. He gets it… people are jealous of him for being rich, hot, and fit. It would take a strong Daddy to take him in hand.
A casual conversation on the night of Preston’s twenty-fifth birthday ties these two stubborn men together in a bet right out of the musical My Fair Lady. Can Daddy Bryan turn the obnoxious brat into a dateable boy within a ninety-day timeframe?
Strap in for a roller-coaster of emotions as Bryan takes firm control of a brat who might just need to know someone cares enough to try.
This is the second book in Davey’s Rules; a series about not-so-perfect Daddies, adorable “boys,” and one sassy brat with an insane list of rules. Grab your fan and tissues because this series comes with both a high heat advisory and all the squishy feels you’d want from a Susan Hawke book. Possible trigger for the death a background character.

A fantastic read about two stubborn men who push everyone away to keep from being hurt.
One icy rich-boy brat who’s parents ignore him, who just wants someone to care about him.
One romance averse Daddy who doesn’t want to end up in a series of broken relationships like his mother.
Two hotheads, one house, 90 days.
I’m reviewing the audio edition. This is Preston and Bryan’s story. Preston broke my heart. He has no idea about normal everyday life. He has an attitude. When he makes a bet with Bryan things get real entertaining. Bryan has a full time job watching over Preston. I am still laughing every time I think about Preston sub contracting his house hold chores. Him riding on a bus again gave me more to laugh at. I really got a laugh how even though Bryan is suppose to be the one in charge, Preston ends up with keeping some of his previous lifestyle. I was surprised that there isn’t much about Davey’s rules in this story. Michael Dean really gave feeling to these characters. I never would have enjoyed the book half as much as I did with his narration.
Preston’s change from a spoiled child to a caring thoughtful adult was a wonderful journey. Bryan’s changes, while not as dramatic, were just as noteworthy. I liked that Preston owned his misbehavior, willingly took his punishments, and acknowledged that he deserved them. I liked, even more, that Bryan acknowledged his own screwups and didn’t hesitate to not only fix them but to apologize. Preston gains friends and a real family as he tames his out-of-control behavior and lets people see the real person he is inside. His friendship with Bronson showed him at his best and made me proud of him.
Highly recommended author and series
Narrator: Clear, smooth voice.
This is the second book in the Davey’s Rules series, and although it could be read as a stand-alone, I highly suggest reading the first book in order to get a better feel for all the characters.
Preston lacks for nothing money can buy; he has a mansion with servants, a private pool, and all the brand clothes and products a boy could ask for. What he doesn’t have is love and companionship – no real friends, no real family, and definitely no Daddy Dom who wants to love and cherish him. Bryan is a self-sufficient Daddy Dom who runs his life with self confidence and discipline, but the only commitment he’s comfortable making is to his business and family. Bryan has no desire for a relationship. When a bet at the Daddy’s Lap club takes a Pygmalion twist, Bryan and Preston are thrust together for three months. Three transformative and incredible months where Daddy Bryan is tasked with cleaning up Preston snobbish and bratty act. Falling in love wasn’t part of the bet, but we all know that when a perfect Daddy/boy combo comes together, it’s just fate.
I adored this book. Preston was such a complicated mixture of hurt, indignation, defensiveness, loyalty, and yearning. He’s such a strong man who just needed some help to get over his own internal obstacles. Bryan was the perfect Daddy, and although he put up a fuss about falling in love, he did end up following his heart. There was so much humor, tears, and joy in this book. I felt a range of emotions while I was reading, and throughout it all, I cheered on the growing relationship between Bryan and Preston. And also, there are some of the hottest sex scenes Susan Hawke has written. My kink button was pushed HARD during those sex scenes, and I loved it. I highly recommend this book to everyone who enjoys Daddy kink and Susan Hawke books.
Bryan and Preston are 2 polar opposites yet have so much in common it’s wonderful to read. Watching Preston realize he is worth more than all the things he internalizes is great. I just love this series
When a confirmed bachelor meets an annoying brat it would seem that would be a pretty short tale to tell. But add in meddling friends and a crazy bet and you everything shifts. I love how both men changed and came out better. I also like how much they learn how to care for each other.
5 stars
Heat Level: 3.5 (not as much sexy times as you’d expect from a Susan book)
Narration: 5
Oh, my heart! Emotional, heartbreaking and heartwarming, I loved this book!!!
I knew there had to be more to Preston and my heart just broke for him. I spent almost this entire book on the edge of tears for the sad neglect of Preston and his life, family, and sweet naivete at every turn. I felt for his longing and desire for love and understanding. I loved to watch his growth and while there was the trademark Susan wit and humor the core of this book was very emotional.
A beloved secondary character passes away and my heart broke, I cried with the characters and their families. Susi’s writing is so emotionally connected to the real world you can’t help but fall for her characters and feel their emotions and grieve when they grieve. I don’t know if I’m in a particular emotional state or this book was just that powerful for me but loved the true emotion, grief, and healing that occurs throughout this book. The collection of characters created are perfect together and I admit I fall more in love with Davey as the stories go on. Susan’s got her work cut out for her to find/create the perfect’ Daddy for our sassy Davey.
I enjoyed more of Daddy Bryan in this story and found him different from what I expected. I felt he didn’t change his brusque ways but did slowly soften to Preston, or at least tried to understand him more. I loved Preston sassy and naivete in everything that he did and loved watching him ‘grow up’. This was a great (yet emotional story), with wonderful characters, a fair amount of grief and just as much love. I really loved it and think it will stay in my heart for quite a while. Hats off to you Susi, I love your work!!

Wow! What an emotional ride. Another home run by Susan Hawke! Preston and Daddy Bryan are like fire and ice, or oil and water. You will definitely not be disappointed with the book.
I didn’t know I would love Preston as hard add I did after seeing his behavior on book 1… but ohhhh my… was I wrong…
Preston is to lonely, unloved and lost! all his behavior is a self defense mechanism against being rejected…
Bryan is exactly what he needs… a Daddy to put him on tracks… to love him and care for him… AWESOME BOOK! can’t wait for the next!
I’m without words!! This book is amazing!! Daddy Bryan and Preston are an amazing couple. While reading this book I spent half of the time crying because Preston loneliness, Raphael…. Bronson…all was so sad!, and the other half, amused by Preston silliness and Daddy Bryan response to that. Better than the first book! the characters are amazing and the dynamic in the Daddy/boy situation was managed brilliantly. WOW!!!! Huge fan of Susan Hawke!!!
I was so happy when received this book as an ARC exactly on my birthday (best gift ever!!) and this is my honest opinion.
Rules to Break by Susan Hawke is the second book in the Davey’s Rules series. This is a contemporary m/m romance with the tint of daddy kink. This has a My Fairy Lady with a twist feel, a sexy Daddy takes a wager that he can help a rich boy with an attitude problem become a better Boy that any Daddy would love to keep. What they discover is real life changing… love.
Bryan is a great Daddy – Protective, strong, caring… he sees past the Brat and sees the love-worthy Boy inside Preston. Preston might be a bit bratty but he was raised spoiled. What makes him a great character is how he is willing to adapt, learn, and grow. Together they are perfect.
This story is wonderful. I love the series and this fits well into it. I laughed, I cried, I melted for the love and Overall I begged for more books to come out soon. Fantastic!
