I love a slow burn fae space fantasy with a tricky hero and a bad ass heroine. Can’t wait for book 2.
Holy smokes that was so good. I’ll re-read it, shoot I want to see the movie. It would be such a fabulous movie ! It was Star Wars’ space action, Star Trek’s lovable characters, Oceans Eleven scheming, humor and some seriously cool creatures. The romance is there so well written into the story it was perfectly done (IMHO). Oh my gawd, Graydon, sexy, super macho, distant, difficult, grumpy, did I mention sexy ( shutters ) I love a man that can be great when he needs to. ** Wink ** The MC Kira, was a broken, self built, haunted, isolated, strong, intelligent, generous, loyal and selfless. woman. I cheered for her big time and the rest of the characters, and cried with their pain.
There was one thing I didn’t like. It ended and the next in the series isn’t out yet. Oye, It ended with such a fun cliffhanger. Luckily, was at home so the public didn’t have to witness my snorting laughter at the stinger ending. BAM
I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
“Rules of Redemption” by TA White is the first book in her new sci-fi series, “Firebird Chronicles”. It is awesome!
The world building and character development are excellent. You open the book and zoom! you’re away. A fast-paced, tantalising plot doesn’t relent.
A book to go on your re-read shelf.
Five glorious stars!
You know those times were you read book after book after book, but nothing really resonates you. You want to find a treasure, something new that the whole world hasn’t already read, but you start to think the book you’re looking for doesn’t exist.
It exists! It’s this book!
I LOVED it! It’s a great sci-fi read with a touch of fantasy/magic and the slowest slow burn romance. I mean, yes, I want more romance, but this is just enough to make me happy and to look forward to when the characters get together.
I love Kira. I love Jin. I love Graydon and all the other characters…although, there were A LOT of characters. I would have liked a few less, but that’s, like, my only criticism. lol
There’s a little mystery woven into the story too. A lot of times, when that mystery is revealed, I’m always like “What was the big deal?” This was the right level of build up to reveal.
The book ends on a cliff hanger. Literally in the middle of a scene. But that was okay because most of the problems in the first book were resolved, and it was actually brilliant and made me immediately buy the next book (although I really shouldn’t have because I needed to catch up on life, lol).
Anyway, you guys. Read this book! If you liked Shades of Treason even a little, or if you’re a fan of Linnea Sinclair, Rachel Bach, or Jessie Mihalik, I know you’ll love this! <3
Space-opera with some twisty twists and turns! A great heroine and an intriguing world…looking forward to the next book in the series.
It really takes me outside the ordinary. I get lost in this fast paced book. The story unfolds and just pulls me with it. Hard to set down.
Excellent start to a new series. Love the characters and their interactions. This book has everything from fun, to humor, to action, to intrigue and mystery, to romance. I stayed up way too late to read this book and the following ones in the series. One of the best books I’ve read in a long time.
White spins an engrossing story! I was so invested in the characters that I had to buy the next book in the series.
Really enjoyed this series
Checklist for 5 star reviews:
1- strong kickass heroine
2- sexy brooding alpha male who respects the hell out of the MC and can’t help but pursue her single-mindedly
3- well-developed side characters whom I’d love to see get their own story
4- great world-building
Rules of Redemption checked off every single item on this list. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
The first reason I picked this book up was because I had just finished reading the first of White’s Brokenlands series and wasn’t ready to buy the next book since it isn’t on kindle unlimited. So, I thought I would give this one a shot. I have to say, I feel in love real hard, real fast. Also, this is the first book of a series, duh, a NEW series, something I was unaware of and therefore did not know the second book wasn’t out yet. Que pinning and the sadness of waiting.
White spins an exciting story of war, space, and finding oneself with snarky characters, an interesting plot, and a unique setting. Rules of Redemption incorporates the age old themes of powerful main character, forgotten/mystery past, and alien/human interaction into a story that breaks from the stereotypical mold and draws readers in. The main character, Kira Forrest, is a complex woman that develops throughout the course of the book. She is standoff-ish, but also filled with a caring that readers see emerging as the story progresses. Her interactions with Jin, the AI figure, spoke to a deep connection and trust that gave readers a glimpse into the complexity that is Kira Forrest.
The detail that White used in describing the home of the alien species and their interactions with humans spoke to a well thought out plan for where the story was heading. I really appreciated this aspect because White covered cultural, language, and geographical aspects of the Tuann people in great detail, enough that readers could actually describe them as different without being cliche.
White does a wonderful job with Rules of Redemption and does a great job with getting readers to desire more (aka: me, sitting on my couch waiting in anticipation, as I write this review, for the sequel). The characters speak to the audience, loudly, and the plot draws one in as one waits for the next twist and turn eagerly. I highly recommend Rules of Redemption to anyone who can read, so yeah pick this book up and enjoy!
I’m obsessed with this world! Very slow burn.
This is my third series I have started with this author and I am sold. I have found that T.A. White is a fantastic PNR writer. Her imagery and world building is fascinating and not like others I’ve read.
Something I’ve noticed in all three series is her penchant for the heroine being the star of the show. They are powerful woman who seem to be disguised as an average person. I really love that. I’m such a fan of the underdog rising above.
Kira stars out as an outcast and the more you learn about her the more you are intrigued by what she is hiding from. We got to see a lot of what she can do in book one, but I feel there is more to come. I can’t wait to see her full potential.
T.A. White’s heroes are just as fascinating. They are just as powerful, but never outshine the heroine. They appeal to me in their quiet intensity she brings to their characters. These are grown men, who behave like grown men. You will not find immature behavior.
There is just something about a powerful man who isn’t afraid to show his soft side to his woman. You actually feel that pull that Graydon feels towards Kira. While this is a slow burn, I don’t feel like there is a lack of romance. That’s how strong their chemistry is in this.
In addition to such fantastic characters is the story itself. I found this to be unique and completely enthralling. I’m jumping right in to book 2 because I can’t get enough!
I loved this adventure set in space. Excellent world-building. Strong heroine and wonderful secondary characters. The story ended on a bit of a hook with unresolved issues. Off to grab the next book. If you love kick-butt heroines, a strong male counterpart, and a rollicking adventure don’t go past this one. Highly recommended!
I love this book! In fact I’ve reread it a few times. I also got the audio book version but the narrator is not the best so I recommend the book over the audio version. The world is well crafted and the characters are complex and interesting. This is the first of a new series and it definitely sets itself up for the next book in the series. I cannot wait to see what happens next for Kira.
One of the greatest book I have read in a long time.
