It’s rule breaker Emily Foster’s birthday, and like everyone at The Jungle Room, she just wants to get some action. Unfortunately, she stumbles on the wrong kind, witnessing a mob hit. To protect her, she’s entered into the Witness Protection Program with by-the-book Special Agent Jake Ward as her chaperone. When the location of their safe house is compromised, Jake stashes Emily deep in the … in the Texas backwoods. The city-girl might be safe from the Mafia, but she has to contend with a psychotic rooster, a narcoleptic dog, crazy cowboys, and the danger of losing her heart to the one man she can’t have.
Jake’s as hot as he is infuriating, and she can’t help but push all his buttons to loosen him up. Their mutual, sizzling sexual attraction poses a dilemma: Jake’s determined to keep her safe and out of the wrong hands; she’s determined to get into the right ones–his.

This is the first book I have read by Ms. Bliss.
Emily, Emily, Emily…I so wanted to slap you so many times throughout this story. Emily is in protective custody by FBI agent Jake Ward. He is trying to keep her alive after the safe house was compromised and all she can do is whine, complained, be rude and constantly keeps throwing herself at Jake because she wants to have sex. Emily was literally getting on my last nerve. Even Jake stated “I’ve never seen a grown woman act like such a thoughtless, thickheaded, temperamental, tantrum-throwing toddler.” Thankfully I kept powering through and Emily did grow on me.
Jake, Jake, Jake…you are a saint for having to put up with Emily. You should’ve pulled those handcuffs out sooner in the story, just saying. Trying to keep Emily safe is proving to be a difficult task, so Jake takes her “back home” where he can really keep an eye on her. However, he would like more than just an eye on her, more like his hands and lips.
There were parts that made me laugh and parts that made me cry. Story line flowed and the whole who/what/where the mob might show up kept the mystery turning for me. I thought there might more of Felts and the mob, but overall I really like the story and look forward to reading the next book in this series.
I loved the humor in this book! Full of witty innuendos. Made me laugh out loud a couple of times. Only Janet Evanovich books make me laugh more.
Oh holy hell! I am going to try and put into words, ever so graciously, what this book did to me. This story had me giving an eye roll at the beginning to the slimy freak that was hitting on Emily, to fanning myself and laughing at the kiss and arrogance of Jake who is trying to help Emily out with the slimeball, then squirming in my seat yelling “RUN!” to Emily when she witnesses a brutal murder. THIS ALL HAPPENED AT THE VERY BEGINNING! What a way to start a story! I was stuck at this point. Very invested and couldn’t put this book down. Turns out Jake works for the FBI and is trying to take this murderer down but now has to save Emily and put her in witness protection for her safety. These two are both hawt and absolutely attracted to each other but no matter what, things go from bad to worse. There is a leak and the safe house has been compromised. Jake goes “rogue” and takes Emily to stay with his family in the boonies in Texas. The angst between these two is INTENSE! Jake has morals and the job comes first but Emily is slowly wearing him down. As with most stories our two main characters carry a ton of baggage. Emily has her reasons and is very stubborn and always a live in the moment type of person. She goes for what she wants and when she wants it. And if it doesn’t pan out she moves on. This personality really bumps heads with Jake who is very rule oriented and very by the book trying to protect her. As with most relationships when we argue things are said that we don’t necessarily mean but these two are under so much stress with all the craziness that is going on that things get crazy between the two. She is super stubborn and just wants to go back to the way things were before the murder but Jake is realistic and has to push her back to make her see reason. These two are constantly going back and forth getting under each other skins and trying to get into bed with one another. And all of the supporting characters from Emily’s friends Dale and Gina to Jake’s aunt and uncle and all of his childhood friends makes for an super funny and super eventful story. I absolutely recommend Tangled in Texas to everyone and am looking forward to reading the second. Alison Bliss is a new author to me and I am tangled up this story!
Hilariously romantic!
Alison is a good writer and I thoroughly enjoyed her 2 books
great reads looking forward to her next book
Really enjoyed this book from the first chapter. The banter between the lead characters was fun to follow. The author nailed the small TX town a well. Can’t wait to read Cowboy’s story.
FABULOUS book! 5++ stars for sure! Emily & Jake spend the majority of the story fighting, but their banter is so hilariously witty & LOL funny, it doesn’t really seem like fighting. Well, okay, some of it does – some of it made me cringe (right along w/ Emily when she would say something horrible she didn’t really mean)(and then along w/ Jake when he would react w/ something he didn’t really mean). I think this is a debut for this author, and if so – WOW! Excellent writing, and huge kudos to her editor! (You know how I am about edits…*grin*)
So, the story – Emily is a fish out of water in Jake’s Texas hometown, and she makes a lot of Yankee mistakes/assumptions. However, you can feel the town growing on her as the story progresses. There’s a lot going on & the author did a great job of keeping everything straight & the story flowing nicely.
Two thumbs up! Definite keeper & re-read shelf. : )
Really liked it!
Loved it!
Great plot.
I believe this is one of the funniest books i have read in years i read on my commute to and from work via train so laughing out loud usually not done but strangers ask me what i was reading this is a fun read i would recommend you add the pleasure of reading this book to your life
While I like this author’s writing for the most part, I really found the female main character to be beyond annoying. She went out of her way to cause trouble and put herself into harm’s way. Quite frankly, I couldn’t see why the male character fell in love with her. She was not likable and her semi-sad past didn’t really give her that much latitude in her behavior.
