Per the usual for this author, I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and the story line and per the usual, the slow burn always gets me!
Mason Spark needs a wife to save his murky reputation, at least that’s what his agent adamantly assures of him. But when finding a wife interferes with the verbal sparring with his brand new matchmaker, Mason decides it’s time to play by some rules of his own…
Madison McRae is a straight laced as they come, and a man like Mason pushes all of her buttons… yes, those buttons, too. But even though she and Mason may not get along, Maddie believe that everyone deserves love… and she is going to show Mason just how to find it…

Rules of Engagement was a sexy, hilarious and adorably flawless read! Maddie and Mason are the kind of opposites attract couple that you will love from the minute they meet. Their banter and sexual tension is complete perfection, while their hearts and their insecurities give them the kind of depth that makes for truly well rounded and interesting characters. Their story was an entertaining and bumpy ride… and the best kind of HEA to embark on…
Maddie may be a sweet, well mannered and inherently Southern lady, but all it takes is one meeting with her newest client and her well practiced patience goes flying out the window. Mason is not the type of person she wants for a client, and when the truth of his matchmaking subterfuge comes to light, Maddie absolutely refuses to waste another moment on his silly wife-finding mission… but alas, Mason isn’t great at taking “no” for an answer… ever.
Mason is a gruff and unpolished professional football player who knows just what women want from him, and it definitely isn’t LOVE. But when his feisty and superbly intriguing matchmaker offers to help him navigate being a better Mason for the world to see… well, who is he to refuse to spend time with a beautiful woman… no matter how uptight this one may be…
This book was everything, and I laughed so freaking hard throughout the entire story!! Maddie and Mason’s relationship consistently delivered with their signature brand of banter, sass and fantastic chemistry. I loved their mutual inner struggles and their multi-faceted personalities that made them not only lovable, but exceptionally genuine as well.
The cherry on top of this love story would have had to be Dick and Waldine. These two characters added so many hilarious moments and emotionally fulfilling ones as well. I desperately wished for this book to never end, but as it inevitably did, it will forever bring a smile to my face when I think about how great of a read it truly is… and hey, Maddie has some brothers that need to find a HEA… right?!
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.

Oh my goodness the banter between Mason and Maddie is just awesome.
I caught myself reading over a few time some comebacks because they were just that good and hilarious. I could just read book after book with these two going back and forth.
Matchmaker meets her match with famous grumpy and cocky football player.
How can you not like this!
Aunt Waldine? Oh yea I want her to be my aunt, or best friend. Win win either way cuz she is something else!
This was filled with lots of feel good. There are a couple different characters points of views which really gives you a better idea of how they are perceived by how they really are.
Definitely recommend for a great RomCom.
First time I read this author. Kudos! What a fun read! I liked the constant back and forth between the 2 main characters. Miss prim goody two shoes versus intimidating gruff foul mouthed footballer. Plus who doesn’t love Tom Brady! Can’t wait to try her other books.
J.T. Geissinger does it again…delivering characters that are heartfelt and even when there is a little jackassery (Yes, Mason), Maddie provides a balance and her own insecurities…together, they make a beautiful whole.
**Have you ever read a book where you want to shake the main character because she’s self-deprecating? I have never felt that with any of the characters…ever… and you know, I’m grateful for her writing style. She is truly a talented artist.**
This book was phenomenal, I love a good sport romance, this got it all. Mason and Maddie’s story is one you read quick because you just can’t stop. It has so many funny interactions, lots of romance and yet there is a story behind it all that makes this book a recommended one to read, not everything is ever perfect. I would love to see this one on audiobook someday, it is so good.
I enjoyed this book so much! There were plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, and Mason and Maddie were characters that I became invested in as soon as they were introduced.
Mason is kind of a stubborn grouch and Maddie is kind of uptight and reserved, but they have an undeniable connection the first time that they meet. Maddie, a matchmaker who believes that love conquers all, is hired to find professional football player Mason a wife, not because he believes in love but because he needs to clean up his bad boy image. Of course, these two bump heads right out of the gate.
Ultimately, Maddie and Mason are two very insecure people who hide behind armor because of tragedies from the past. Eventually, they teach each other how to let their guards down and how to accept, give, and enjoy love. Their road to true love is paved with lovable, meddling supporting characters in the form of a godfather/agent and a narcoleptic aunt; a sneaky ex; misunderstandings; denial; self-awareness; burning jealousy; blackmail; and so much pink!
This was a very light, fun read!
I received a review copy and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Loved this hilarious romantic comedy! Forget the fact that I’m a HUGE pats fan- but you managed to find the genuine love and humor in an amazing story! Great job!
I don’t even know where to begin on how much I loved Rules of Engagement! The story of an imperfectly grumpy football quarterback and the smart and sassy matchmaker who brings him to his knees just made my heart smile! If you are looking for a sports romance, this isn’t the book for you because football is only a tiny part of Maddie and Mason’s story. J.T. Geissinger has crafted a witty, contemporary romance full of fun banter and two opposites that have so much in common that it surprises them both! When I started the book I got so lost in the story that I spent the day and well into the night because I honestly couldn’t put it down. Now I am not going to give anything away other than saying that Rules of Engagement was told from dual POV, is hilarious, a bit spicy, has supporting characters that I loved (yes that’s you Aunt Waldine!) and should be read by anyone that needs a fun, contemporary romance to bring a smile to their soul.
Rules of Engagement was a sweet and humorous rom com from J.T. Geissinger that had me laughing and smiling the whole time.
Maddie was a great protagonist. I loved how she truly believed in helping people find love and her willingness to be a good friend to Mason while still standing up to him if it was necessary.
Mason was entertaining from the beginning, but I was curious from many of his comments why he fought against his attraction to Maddie. As the book progressed he had a lot of growth and became one of my favorite characters I have read in awhile.
Maddie and Mason balanced each other so well and their back and forth and banter were perfect. The other series I read from the author was romantic suspense, so it is a nice surprise to find she does romantic comedy so well, too.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
J.T. did it again!!!! She had me snorting and chuckling outloud and I wasn’t by myself when it happened (facepalm)! I enjoyed the witty banter in this opposites attract story and couldn’t put it down once I started.
This was a very fast paced book that I wished was longer. The two main characters where very funny together. JT never let’s me down with her books. Everyone is going to love this book. Hopefully we could get a sequel for it
It took me a little bit to get into this book due to the female character BUT once I hit about 40% in I was HOOKED! I love the banter between them and I especially love the forbidden aspect of the relationship (he’s her client, she’s a prim proper lady, he’s a broody male pig). This is a must read!
FIVE FUNNY STARS for Maddie and Mason !!!
This is the first book that I’ve read by J.T. Geissinger and I loved it!
It was a sweet and funny book to read and it got my heart.
“Rules of Engagement” is a romantic comedy that will totally make you laugh through the whole book.
Maddie and Mason are characteristically different but how it says: “The opposites attract” !
If you looking for a funny book, then you should read this one next!
Highly recommended!!!
These two were hilarious!!!!!! On paper Maddie and Mason were just soooooooo wrong for each other. But who would’ve known that the hotheaded quarterback will have a soft spot for the quirky librarian looking matchmaker. The back and forth and the banter is due hard funny and throw in her aunt with her “auras” and his agent it’s a wild wild story of laughters but also of the most beautiful love story. He was insanely protective of her and she didn’t put up with his crap, lol. Loved it!!!
This is my first J.T. Geissinger book and woo, it was amazing. Like, I’m loading my TBR with all of her previous works as we speak. No lie. I didn’t have any obligation to read this book but found it on an ad on Facebook one day while scrolling. The blurb hooked me in and I knew I had to read it between all the other reading obligations I have under my belt at the time. And I am so glad that I did.
Rules of Engagement is the story of Maddie and Mason. Mason is a tough guy football player with a bad past. His agent hires Maddie as a matchmaker to help him find a wife to calm his rough exterior and ensure he doesn’t lose his endorsement deals. The moment these two meet is instantaneous fireworks. The tension between them is so thick. And the banter, I lived for the banter between them. It made the book sparkle and shine.
Mason is everything I love about a hero in a romance book. He doesn’t think he’s good enough for love, that it isn’t meant for him. But meeting Maddie knocks him on his tail end and it is so fun watching this quintessential bad boy fall for the southern charm and wit that Maddie has.
If you’re looking for a fun, romantic comedy that will have you laughing, swooning, sighing and feeling all the emotions, then this is the book for you.
Five beautiful stars for this witty sports romance that had me laughing and cheering them on all the way through the end.
Another great book by J.T. Geissinger! A fun quirky love story between a proper prim match maker and a cocky football star. Great chemistry between the main characters along with some good twists and turns along the way. Nice easy reading, five stars!
“Opposites attract, 4 stars”
Maddie and Mason are about as opposite as can be. He’s loud and crass, and well she’s a true southern woman. Swearing is beneath her and she believes in love. Unlike Mason who doesn’t think love exists. These two go at it, head to toe battle of the wills. Yeah, they have chemistry but will they be able to set aside their hard heads and find love with each other. Or are they destined to be enemies?
Rules of Engagement was a cute story. I love a good opposites attract. The banter between these two were solid. My only complaint if I need one is, I wish we got more of them together, together and less of them holding out. But beggars can’t be choosers and Geissinger still gave us a solid book I think you’ll enjoy.
Plot-4/5
Characters-4/5
Heat-4/5
Writing style-4/5
Overall-4/5
RULES OF ENGAGEMENT by J.T. Geissinger is ideal for readers who want an undemanding and light-hearted read.
It’s the story of your typical misunderstood bad boy crossing paths with the buttoned up heroine. They clash, the sparks fly, they learn lessons about themselves and each other. It’s entertaining but it never really rises above the many other books telling a similar tale.
There is a balance in the humour dotted throughout the book and the serious nature of some of the character’s revelations along the way. Having said this, some of it was repetitive and I think the book could have been slimmed down to provide a faster-paced story.
There’s a cast of supporting characters who play the roles of angels and villains as required. They add to the entertainment without taking focus away from out couple.
Writing the perfect romance is very much like baking the most delectable of cakes. Quality ingredients ( no skimping, folks), blended with careful attention, and baked to delicious perfection. So what we have here, people, is a sinfully delightful freaking cake. This had everything I look for in my romance novels , but the dialogue between Maddie and Mason was a highlight for me as I laughed, snickered, and snorted every time these two had a conversation. Mason was certainly a douche when our story begins. Not exactly a meet cute. But his douchery hides a sensitive soul. I love seeing his growth as a character throughout this book. He strives to be a better man because he knows Maddie deserves one. And Maddie! Her prim, proper, southern lady facade needs to be shaken up. And Mason is just the man for the job. At a glance these two could not be more different, but as our story progresses…..they are just the perfect match. All the damaged pieces that comprise both of them come together to heal each of them beautifully. This is a slow burn and when Mason and Maddie finally get together look out!!! Hot hot hot! This author never ceases to surprise me. She has dipped her toe into almost every romance sub-genre from paranormal to suspense, second chance, rock star, and Perfect Strangers ( difficult to define mind-blower). I have enjoyed them all and this one is not to be missed!
