Davey’s Rule #85: Daddy will always treat his boy like he’s Daddy’s world… because that’s how it should be!
Note: This is a 37k collection of short stories that follow the final book in the Davey’s Rules series.
Revisit all your favorite couples and families from Daddy’s Lap in this five-part, seven-story collection that shows them all living their happily-ever-afters.
These stories include:
… happily-ever-afters.
These stories include:
A unique bachelor party, wedding, and new proposal that take place during a long weekend in Vegas.
The day when Travis and Adam officially adopt their daughter.
The fabulous moment when Sammy and Davey say ‘I Do’.
Mikey and Landon finally share how they became a couple.
And finally, get ready to smile as Davey and Sammy welcome a new baby.
This collection of shorts is number eight in a series about not-so-perfect Daddies, adorable “boys,” and one sassy brat with an insane list of rules. Grab your fan and tissues because this series comes with both a high heat advisory and all the squishy feels you’d want from a Susan Hawke book. Please be aware that this is a bonus book to the series, a 37k collection of shorts rather than a full-length novel.

I’m reviewing the audio edition. These stories brought out the laughter and tears. Everyone needs a little Davey in their life. He is so bratty and caring. I don’t know if these are SPOILERS OR NOT SO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. Davey presiding over Jeff and Marcus’s wedding and then crashing the honeymoon really made me laugh. Davey’s birth anniversaries. Great idea. Davey’s interactions with his parents both funny and oh no moments. Also Davey becoming a new father…..just wow. I don’t think any child could find a more caring parent if not conventional. I can just imagine Davey at school or elsewhere defending his children!! I loved this series and am sad to see it end. I was lucky enough to be able to listen to it on audio and think Michael Dean made these characters so dimensional.
Each of these vignettes was a delightful addition to the series. We get to see each of the couples living their HEAs. Families have grown and been added to adding another layer of happiness. Rhyming toddlers, peeks into the past, and gender reveals all add up to the perfect ending for the series.
Highly recommended author and series
Audiobook: clear and smoothly read
This was such a fun peak of some of our favorite characters as they get together to celebrate big events in their lives. It covers a couple of years in their lives. It makes a wonderful wrap up to such a special series.
This series is one of my favorites in MM romance and in my opinion, it is one of the best in this topic. After 7 books, I thought everything was settled until I read this book and discovered that without it the rest of the stories were sadly incomplete. Some of these shorts filled out blanks in the original stories and others are epilogues that presented us a wonderful HEA for our beloved characters. Together, all of them are a magnificent complement to round up nicely all the Davey’s rules.
Rules for Loving is a collection of short stories featuring the characters from the Davey’s Rules series. In order to truly understand and enjoy this collection, you need to read the first seven books. This collection contains five short stories: The Vegas Trip, Happy Rhymes with Pappy, A Perfect Day for a Wedding, Tell Me A Story?, and Oh, Baby! – each story is full of fluff and humor while giving us a look into some important milestones in each couple’s lives.
The Vegas Trip:
It was mentioned a few times in the previous books, but finally we get to see Preston and Bryan’s big day! Instead of doing a high society wedding like Preston parents would expect and Bryan’s mother would demand, the couple instead makes this special day their own by “eloping” in Las Vegas, with all their family and friends surrounding them. As you would expect with any Vegas trip that includes the men from Daddy’s Lap, there’s shenanigans galore. My favorite part was seeing how everyone interacted together while they went full out during this wedding vacation. All the characters have grown so much and are so happy with their lives.
Happy Rhymes with Pappy:
This the sweet moment when Travis and Adam officially adopted their daughter. Cuteness overload!
A Perfect Day for a Wedding:
Finally, Davey and Sammy’s wedding. This had all the emotions and humor you would expect from these two lovebirds. A beautiful wedding ceremony for a beautiful couple.
Tell Me A Story?:
Although we have Daddy Landon, little Mikey, and pup Tofer’s love story in book four, Rules for Growing, but we never got the backstory on how Daddy Landon and Mikey met. “Tell Me A Story?” is that backstory, and it’s just as adorable and sweet as I hoped with just the right amount of humor.
Oh, Baby!:
This is the last story in the collection and it marks a new chapter in Davey and Sammy’s lives as they become parents again for the third time. Humor, joy, and reflection as the men wait for the birth of their new child.
I listened to the audiobook version of this book, and LOVED Michael Dean’s voices for all the characters. I had previously read the first seven books on my Kindle, so this was my first time experiencing Michael’s voice choices for each character. He did a great job of embodying all the characters, especially having to voice so many different characters in a big group setting. That definitely took some vocal gymnastics, but he pulled it off fabulously, and I had no trouble following along. I listened to half of this book while I was running, and there were a few moments I had to slow down because I was giggling and not breathing properly for the run. I probably looked like a loon if anyone was watching me, but I was thoroughly enjoying this book and completely in love with all the characters and their stories.
This book is a must-read/must-listen for anyone who has been following the Davey’s Rules series. And if you haven’t started that series yet, then you definitely should check it out if you love Daddy kink, sassy boys, romance, and amazing characters.

A fantastic treat for fans of this series.
While I have not read every single book in the Davey’s Rules series, I thoroughly enjoyed this compilation of stories that lets us revisit couples from this series.
I just about bawled my eyes out when I came to the part about Davey and Sammy’s wedding; it was so sweet. I loved reading how Mikey and Landon got together and the kind of rough start they had with each other. And reading about Davey and Sammy’s new baby – more tears. OK, I admit it, I’m a crier. When a book really touches my heart the tears inevitably come. So, Rules for Loving was a fantastic book for me.
It will come as no surprise to anyone that Michael Dean turns in another fantastic performance. If you’re a fan of the Davey’s Rules series you won’t want to miss this one.
A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.
Fantastic way to truly end the series. Was great catching up with all the individuals. Wonderful chemistry and fun times!
I really enjoyed getting the follow up look at the HEA for some of Susan’s characters in this series! You would really need to have read the others to enjoy this one though!
