There’s a fine line between animal instinct and human desire—and in her “highly erotic saga” (Fresh Fiction), #1 New York Times bestselling author Lora Leigh crosses it. Now, in her new novel of the Breeds, the mating heat continues… Lion Breed and enforcer Rule Breaker has just a few rules he doesn’t break. Not for anything. Not for anyone—like never have sex with a woman outside his own breed, … never have sex with a woman outside his own breed, especially a human woman. Especially someone too helpless, too fun loving and too full of life to ever be able to protect herself, let alone help him to protect her.
If the damned animal inside him insists on a mate, then why pick her? A woman who is an easy target and who can be used as a weapon against him at any time.
But what he suspects is mating heat may not be that at all. Just his animal instincts rioting, pacing, irritated whenever he’s away from her.
Okay, he can handle that.
What ensues is a fiery affair that breaks all the rules of mating heat and will eventually endanger his mate with the very rules designed to protect the Breeds—for she’s possibly been working against them…

It took me a bit longer to read this book than normal because I just couldn’t get into it at first, it wasn’t until I got through about the first half of the book that I really got involved, though you do need the background so you have to read the first half. So much happens in this book that is integral to the ongoing storylines.
There are several ongoing storylines that are moved forward in this book and I won’t give away spoilers but I will list them. One is the the storyline about Morningstar Martinez being the Mother of Rule and Lawe, and the fact that some of the Navajo leaders were her family and were searching for her or any children she may have had in the labs. A few books back Rule let them know that he and Lawe were two of those children and Morningstar was killed and he wanted nothing to do with any of them but it wasn’t brought up again since then.
Another storyline is the ongoing search for Judd and Gideon now that Fawn and Honor have been found and are being protected by Jonas. The issue of Amber’s health after the injection Brandenmore gave her has been ongoing for a long time and Jonas believes those 4 are the key to saving her.
Gideon has changed his name to Graeme and his insanity is slowly leaving and he is becoming sane for the most part now that he recognizes the blood Fawn gave him to save his life didn’t really cause Feral Fever as he thought. So much happens in the second half of this book, you just can’t miss this one.
Also the romance between Gypsy and Rule is very hot. The sex is pretty awesome . Her storyline is good once It gets moving along. One thing I can’t wait for is a story about Dane Vanderale, he is still pining after Harmony and he is just too cool to pine over a woman that loves someone else. He needs his own mate.
I actually have the whole series…and loved every one of them……one should start from the beginning to understand the world that the author has created…..has a bit of everything….
I liked this one a lot better than a few of the previous Breed books. Rule was actually kind of hilariously arguing with his lion. His mate had understandable hangups with not too many of them completely illogical. It made for a great and super sexy read. Lora Leigh writes seriously excellent sex!
An awful lot is happening in this book but the actual heroine I didn’t connect with.
Though you can read this and enjoy it, reading the books in order really does let you know who these people are, especially as Rule has been in this series for quite a while now.
This is not a standalone book no matter what anyone says. Without having read the earlier books you would not understand who was whom and how they all correlated to one another.
Gypsy Rum and Rule Breaker, what a pair of names, I kept sniggering at Gypsy’s stupid family names. Gypsy Rum is our heroine, her sister Kandy Sweet, mother Gretel, father Hansel. I kid you not. Did Ms Leigh lose a bet to use these names?
If I ignored the 9 years of blinkered guilt from Gypsy, her misguided belief in her parents, okay, her dad was just a selfish twit, but her mother, what a bi-arch of the first order. Breed law should have been enacted on Gretel.
We once again get a breed male behaving like a jerk towards his mate. Not surprising from Rule, as he and his brother Lawe, were planning to join a monastery to get away from the mating voodoo happening.
Even though Rule has protected, shadowed and basically stalked Gypsy for 9 years, he seems surprised/shocked when it turns out she is his mate.
There are so many sub stories, character movements and just personal plain plotting going on, to make this a complex and difficult read. Hence the need to have read the earlier books to know who all these characters are.
We finally get a resolution re baby Amber and her sickness, which I found fascinating and loved.
Loved Gideons role there and his shennanigans.
Dog, Dane and Rules plotting around each other was entertaining and it was nice having some favourite characters along for the ride.
The emergence of not one but two genetics council affiliated traitors towards the breeds was intriguing.
My earlier review posted from the back of the book is missing.
Love this whole series, but this is one of my favorites !
AMAZING!!!!
I love this author and greedilyread her books.
I’m a die hard fan of Ms.Leighs. You can never go wrong with any of her books. Especially the Breeds. They’re my all time fav!
Love her books
This book is everything I have come to expect from a Breeds novel. It was fast paced, tense, erotic, and action packed. I loved seeing how Rule’s inner lion plotted against the man who would sabotage things. Seeing Gypsy learn and see the truth of things was very satisfying. The ending has me panting fir more. I want to learn how Amber fares, and I’d really like to see both Dane and Gideon’s stories.
Like all of the other books in this series, I Loved It!!!
This is a must read IMO because from word one you cannot put this book down and even at the end you just want more. As usual the characters are great and we still get to read about previous characters, the plot rocks, it’s well written, and the steamy, chemistry will make you go up in flames.
I liked that this book was a little different from the others because the “Mating Heat” between Gypsy and Rule was hidden his inner lion was the instigator. The constant battle that Rule had with his lion was to funny!
I cannot wait for the next book in this series. Lora hints at more to come, especially Dane’s story, and I have to admit, I did a Happy Dance with this info!!! But she also hints at maybe more stories with more characters….I hope so cause I never ever want this series to END!
