Her ruin by rape, thankfully, is not described in detail.
The hiccups in the plot make her redemption completely and totally implausible.
She is saved from forced marriage to the rapist by her childhood friend when he offers for her.
Fast forward to her escape from being institutionalized by her parents. Having her committed seems plausible when you learn how she tries to poison herself – at a ball! – but oops, that goes awry. She had received a letter – contents unknown. Another was sent to that boyfriend. That letter has him hying off to the front lines of the war. He dies. Well then. No wedding.
There is a happily ever after that didn’t satisfy, let alone work for me.
A Rollercoaster Story!
Wow! Since I’ve been reading the rest of Bree Wolf’s second chance series in order, Ruined & Redeemed was hard to read and truly like the lead female character as she appeared in an earlier book and was unredeemable. This book was a rollercoaster for that reason. Sebastian was a truly likable man who was very forgiving of what his wife had done and still loved and accepted her. I felt sorry for Charlotte and how she had limited choices to deal with the problems she had faced in her past, but I had a hard time understanding how she was still accepted by those to whom she had caused the most harm. This truly was a gut-wrenching read.
Please note: I received a copy of this book as a gift. This is an honest review of what I read.
Some parts are well done and develop both plot and characters, but far too much of the book is tedious with repetition.
Different than others I have read. Read both in this series.
It was a slow read. Also, the reactions the other characters had when the found out what Charlotte had done seemed pretty darned unrealistic and her reasoning for it wasn’t that well explained.
Dumb premise, way too contrived to be enjoyable.
Couldn’t wait to finish it.
The book started out strong. It immediately got my attention and I couldn’t put it down but when they got to London it feel apart. I felt like the author didn’t know how to end the book so it rambled on and on.
Wanted more of the Redeemed and less of the Ruined.
Not believable
