Synopsis:
To judge and execute. That is Ruin’s power and desire. But Ruin’s memory is empty of how he came to be here on Earth and why. After saving Isadore– a neuroscientist living in the swamps of Louisiana– from a sexual predator, she volunteers to help him.
Ruin soon discovers that judging and executing wicked humans while linked to such a difficult and beautiful woman who can’t help but … help but involve herself in every aspect of his business, is proving to be more difficult than judging the world.

First book in series and first read by this author.
This book starts off with isadore living in the swamps. She has been hiding from a tortured past for the past 3 years, she keeps hearing strange noises on her roof but cannot figure out what it is.
When her ex partner shows up unexpected at her house and tries to force her to return to their relationship, her refusal results in things turning nasty until… a half naked tattooed man comes to her rescue. He saves her and asks her to help him. Izzy is unsure but finds she can’t refuse.
Ruin has a lot of titles, we don’t actually find out what they all mean but part avenging angel part judge comes to mind.
After agreeing to help him…. things for Izzy become a whole lot more complicated ( and for the reader also ) but it’s an intriguing and gripping kind of confusion that is stacked up further when both Izzy and ruin have their own internal battles, with regard to faith, purpose and ‘what’s right’ to deal with and… so when a ‘vague at best messenger ‘ shows up with missions of vengeance for Ruin, this adds to further the confusion intrigue and wonder.
Wholy gripping from the first page, I will be continuing with this series. It is such an original and intriguing concept I must know what happens next.
“Ruin” & “Izzy”, while strangers and strange right from the start are also drawn to something in each other from the get go. That mystery about each other and a fierce need to care and protect eachother is obeyed at all costs. Even when one of them refuses that care. I’ve never fallen in love so fast with a book couple.
Paranormal books are not my usual go to books when reading, however, after reading RUIN: The Waking, I am hooked. Lucian Bane has this magical way to spin a tale that draws you in from page one. I literally was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what was going to happen next. This is book one in the series and I loved every minute reading it. The characters are very well developed and you will instantly fall in love with Isadore and Ruin and her crazy antics and banter. This is one book that I will have no problem reading over and over. A brilliant job well done Mr. Bane. Can’t wait to read the rest.
once again Lucian Bane blows my mind.
Lucian Bane the Master wordsmith of all things mind blowing and sexy gives us the first book in this series. Here we are introduced to Isadore and Ruin.
Isadore is all human, a woman living alone in the swamps of Louisiana. Ruin, however, is something other worldly. He comes to her in the form of protection. He has missions to fulfill. He is sent to her and he cannot complete tasks without Isadore’s presence. They have a unique connection that invokes off the charts chemistry and a unique need to stick together.
A conundrum of fantasy, spirituality and steam.
