This is one of those books that you know you will never forget because this author really gets under your skin with her twisted tale of lust, greed, power and revenge. I so wanted to hate Edward and Celia who on the face of it love to play games, love to play with people’s emotions so maybe they deserve the loveless marriage they find themselves in or maybe we need to dig deeper into their dark pasts to see the real characters behind the masks they wear so well……
Slay: Ruin does exactly that as secrets are revealed and we finally get to see why Edward has been infatuated and so passionate with his pursuit of Celia and we get to see what made Celia the person even she doesn’t like ……..
This story has so many layers and I’m struggling to put words on paper as I write this review, I was blown away by a book I really didn’t want to like but I’m so glad we finally get to see the person behind the mask Celia wore so well in The Fixed Series. This couple both have layers that need to be peeled back and if I’m honest I hated some of their actions but as I join their journey I find myself falling for the characters I wanted to hate and for me that shows just how talented this author is because she had me doing a 360 degree turnaround as she drew me in and stripped the layers of Edward Fasbender and Celia Werner. I can’t wait to see where the final games take his couple…..
5 MUST READ STARS
All I can say is WOW, what an amazing way to continue the story of Celia and Edward. Ruin, book two in the Slay Quartet, is an emotional rollercoaster ride that you won’t want to see end. The way Laurelin Paige has written Edward and Celia caused me to loathe while loving them at the same time.
Throughout RUIN, there are pasts that are revealed, secrets learned, and an ever growing bond between Edward and Celia. They have an undeniable attraction to each other but there are agendas that need to be completed.
I’m am so looking forward to the release of book three, Revenge. This series must be read in order, so if you are not a fan of cliffhangers, I suggestvyoubwaitvfkrvtgecrelease of the final book Rising. It will be well worth the wait. I received Ruin from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine and were not influenced by the author.
Dark, disturbing, raw and gritty. These are just some of the words that can be used to describe this story. Edward is control, resistance and restraint personified. He has a goal and nothing or nobody will get in his way of achieving that goal, except himself. While we get most of the story in Celia’s POV, the snippets we get into Edward, from both her experience and from him show he’s disconcerted and isn’t sure how to process that. I really liked how they seemed to keep each other off balance, whether he admitted to it or not.
Celia goes through a transformation of sorts, a personal growth, though while she does, she doesn’t realize the enormity of just how far she’s come from where she was on their wedding day. Now one year later, truths are laid bare and objectives have shifted. We’ve all heard the old adage, hell hath no fury…. well, it’s time they’re introduced to Mr. Fasbender. I cannot wait to see what the next installment brings.
Unbelievable! Celia and Edward are husband and wife, yet they are enemies playing a dangerous game. Celia slowly changes when she is left behind on the island for months and months with Edward’s servants. She was in charge of the game, and now she questions if she will leave the island alive. I really thought it would be unlikely I could like Celia, but Laurelin Paige weaves her magic words and turns their story in a different direction. Book two ends in a good place, but it’s still an unfinished story. I cannot wait for book three!
Ruin begins pretty much where the first book left off. This time around Celia and Edward bare their souls, peeling back the surface layers to expose what’s beneath, if you’ve read the first book you’ll have already guessed that what’s revealed isn’t pretty. Yet somehow that act of them opening up and being vulnerable in front of each other is beautiful. In that one act you see how they fit, how right they are for each other even as battered and bruised as they are. I loved watching them explore each other in a different light as well as sexually. Edward is still an ass even more so in this book but there’s another side to him that I loved. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them because I’m sure all of their secrets haven’t been revealed as yet. I definitely recommend this book.
