Where to start…….. I could not wait to get my hands on this after the cliff-hanger of book 1, and disappointed I was not, It’s fan-fecking-tastic!!!
It’s addictive, I Couldn’t put it down and it certainly plays with your head.
It’s feisty, devastating at times, you feel the vulnerability of the characters, and oh so HOT!!!
This is Laurelin at her best. I absolutely loved the Fixed series and to date had been my favourite, but this blew me away. Never in my wildest dreams would I have wanted a story for Celia, but now I can’t get enough.
In this book we get Edwards POV and it makes all the difference to finally know what’s going through this man’s mind. I hated him, then loved him, then hated him again… like I said messes with your head.
As for Celia this is a side of her, for those that know her from past books, we would never have known possible.
They are individually a force to be reckoned with, if they can make it as a team, I fear for whoever gets in their way.
Slay: Ruin is a bewitching and mouth-watering must read!
After that hellacious cliffhanger we were all forced to endure from book one, we finally find out what happens next with these two wicked characters. To say I wasn’t prepared…*pfft*, truest understatement of the year.
But wait…you NEED to read book one first before reading this book. If that wasn’t obvious by now, then this is me telling you. So, you’ve been warned…
Slay: Ruin starts right where Slay: Rivalry ends. Literally. (Thank God.) The author wastes no time getting right into the thick of things between Celia and Edward. As much as we were all tortured with that cliffhanger, we were put out of our misery right away. But oh, the author does find other methods in which to torture us as the book progresses.
Hell bent on “breaking down” Celia, Edward leaves her stranded on his private island after their honeymoon, only returning a handful of times. If that doesn’t reek of CONTROL, then I don’t know what does. Throughout the story, we’re given full access to Celia and how she handled her “imprisonment”, with only a few, very brief insights into the mind of Edward. The progression of the plot is an erotic mix of mind games, domination, and discipline. But above all of that, truth and honesty. Multiple times throughout the story, I had a very strong dislike for Edward. I wanted to hate him, truly I did. But there was just something about him, something working in his mind that we hadn’t seen yet, that piqued my curiosity. He’s such an enigma of a man that even Celia was blindsided more than once. And Celia!….Gah, I didn’t know I would ever have a compassionate or supportive bone in my body when it came to her. The internal pain, misfortune, and insecurities she’s carried with her is truly shocking, and explains WHY she is the way she is. And as more of Celia’s truths become revealed, you ultimately see why Edward is so determined to break her.
I could not put this book down. I thought I knew where this story was headed, but I had NO IDEA! Slay: Ruin doesn’t necessarily end on a cliffhanger (unlike book one), but it does leave the story open to an array of possibilities and interpretations…along with a ton of questions. But most importantly, there’s still the chilling reminder of that shocking cliffhanger from book one…was Edward serious? Or did their newly formed connection make him have a change of heart?
I seriously cannot wait for Slay: Revenge. I have an idea, but just like the first two books, I am in no way going to be prepared for what’s in store with these two characters. I’m on the edge of my seat with anticipation!
I have been eagerly awaiting Ruin with how Rivalry ended (if you haven’t read it yet, you need to get on that!). It was everything I hoped it would be!! Edward surprised me at every turn. One minute he could be cruel and the next he was doing something thoughtful for Celia. Talk about a mind f*ck! You aren’t sure of Edward’s true intentions toward Celia’s father until the end and what is revealed will blow your mind…again! I loved watching the walls come down for both of them and how their relationship slowly evolved. Laurelin Paige is slaying it with this series!
Slay:Ruin is living up to all the promise we saw in Slay: Rivalry. Celia is turning into one of my favorite female protagonists. The brittle, one note, easy to hate game master of the Fixed series has shed her skin revealing the resolute, vulnerable heart she sought to protect for so long. Ruin is all about Celia and her isolation – emotional and physical. Her transformation is a joy to read – crackling with a fierce yet fearful energy as she unwinds the lies she insulated herself with for years. Her attraction to Edward is compulsive and eyes wide open. She’d happily let him be her destruction as long as he is HERS.
And Edward. OMG. This is a man so charismatic. So devilish. So unputdownable.
It’s so easy to see why Celia is drawn to him like a moth to a flame.
This couple’s journey will be one of the all time greatest in Indie Romance. Mark my words.
This is the second book, so please read book one first. It starts right where the first one left, Slay had an ending that had me on edge until I got Ruin, and it just kept getting better and better, I love the angst and I love how this characters Celia and Edward interact, I am ruined now I need the next one like yesterday, this is so good. A must read top list for sure.
If you read the Fixed Series, then you probably hated Celia as much as I did. But, after reading books 1-2 in the Slay series… I’m hooked! I actually feel myself rooting for her. Everyone has a story, and there’s always a reason why people become who they do. We finally learn the background to Celia’s story, and trust me, you’ll want to know!!!
Donovan has always been my favorite, but man… I knew Edward wasn’t going to just ruin Celia but me as well. I also had no idea how wonderful it would be. This book was everything! Everything I knew I wanted and so much more. I found myself surprised so much and had no idea where she was taking me. Which was frustrating and delightfully refreshing all mixed into one. Laurelin’s words and worlds aren’t like any others out there. These characters will bury themselves into your soul and will stick with you well after the story ends. I’m already desperate for book 3!
Oh my word! I need a minute…
HOLY FREAKING SMOKES!!! Mind blown! I have no idea how to write this review without giving anything away. Just take my word for it…READ! THIS! BOOK! Laurelin Paige is always a one-click author for me and it is because of books like this. I was on the verge of going over the edge the entire book! My emotions were all over the map while reading Slay: Ruin. SO. MANY. FEELS!!!
The way Celia and Edward fight each other and fight for each other is beautiful, passionate and intense! I love how Edward found a way to penetrate the fortress Celia has built up and in return, Celia has infiltrated his soul. But the question I have is will they survive one another?
No matter how hard I try, I can’t make myself dislike Edward, and by the time this latest installment is done, you’re going to fall in love with him just like I have. I know you think it’s impossible, but just wait.
Oftentimes, Edward is cold, distant, and sometimes just plain cruel. But there’s a method to his madness, and sometimes he gets results that I don’t even think he was expecting. But for all of his alpha tendencies and dominant ways, we see a different side of him in the story. He’s more compassionate than you might expect, especially after the epic cliffhanger of book one.
Celia has a lot of demons to work through. I still don’t want to like her, but the more I understand her and what she’s been through, the easier it is to realize that maybe she’s not such a bad person after all. I know, I know, I was shocked too.
These two together are explosive. Their heat, fire, and passion easily carry over to the bedroom. There’s so much push and pull between them, but that underlying attraction is always there no matter how much they want to deny it. It’s something I don’t think either one of them was expecting.
This story is really shaping up to be something spectacular. I can’t wait to find out what happens next, but whatever it is, I know it’s going to be fantastic. Another five star installment in this new must-read series.
Tall and tanned and long and lean…..that’s our Edward.
As Edward continues to manipulate Celia and her emotions in an effort to break her you have to wonder if Laurelin Paige isn’t trying to do the exact same thing to us as we read. We find out more about the younger Celia and it really is shocking. My heart was breaking for my new best friend. Edward has his secrets too and we gets hints of his reasons for wanting the Werner business as he reveals a little about his younger life. I did at one point think Ruin was going to end with the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers because Edwards behaviour had you wondering what the flaming heck was going on. It was truly a ‘hold your breath’ moment. Now we wait. We wait for more secrets to be revealed and for Edward and Celia to continue to slowly fall for each other. We wait for Revenge book three of the quartet. Buckle up because you can guarantee Laurelin Paige is going to take us on one hell of a ride.
How would you feel if your new husband took you away to a Caribbean island he owns and then he tells you he plans to kill you for your money? No way off the island. No one on the island will believe you are in peril because they all adore your new husband and work for him.
This is how Celia’s marriage to Edward started. Why is he so set in killing her? Is it only because she owns what she thinks is majority control of shares of her father’s media company? Is there more?
As they interact, there is attraction and hatred. Something between them dark yet the unrelenting attraction is hard to be missed. Knowing that Edward plans to keep her isolated on the island until she “breaks” is the only hope she has of staying alive long enough to figure out her escape.
OMG!!!! This can only happen to Celia! After all the games she has played with people’s lives, this is Karma giving her its punishment. Do not miss this series!
I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the author for sharing a copy with me.
Ugh so many conflicting emotions in this book! If I feel like I have whiplash, I can only imagine how Celia feels! Lol Edward, Edward, Edward you sneaky little devil! How I loathe you and love you all at the same time! We certainly got a very in depth view into Celia’s life and how she came to be this way and I’ll be honest, my heart breaks for her and I can understand how it changed her into a manipulative little brat! I feel I can’t say too much about this book without giving things away so I will just say it was a fantastic, intriguing and emotional story and I am ready for part 3!
Edward and Celia’s story continues in Slay: Ruin and it’s everything I could have hoped for and more! Laurelin Paige proves, once again, what a very talented storyteller she is. She takes a character you despise and makes you not only like her, but cry for her, and in the end find compassion and hope for her. Ms. Paige’s writing is pure genius!
This story has already become one of my all-time favorites. I cannot wait to read the next installment in this series!
Laurelin Paige heats up the romance between Edward Fasbender and Celia Werner in this second installment of her Slay Quartet, and it is DELICIOUS.
Edward and Celia dance around each other, their lust and arousal palpable. He wants her, yes, but he’s also starting to like her, something that clearly shocks and unnerves him. Laurelin Paige begins this book in Edgar’s POV and occasionally dips back into that intriguing pool, although most of the story belongs to Celia. Her husband unsettles her. Just when she thinks she has the upper hand, Edward knocks her back, showing her how in control he truly is.
There are several scenes that not only made me feel for Celia, they made me weep for her as well. Edward gives her the physical intimacy she wants and even seems to open himself emotionally, only to reveal his end game. Celia thinks she has what she wants, and then he reminds her that none of this is about what she wants: it’s all about what he wants.
And yet Edward helps Celia. He unravels her carefully woven façade, not so much to help her rediscover herself but more for her to learn who she really is. Yes, sometimes his means seem somewhat cruel, but his ends are–dare I say–honorable.
The sexy times are exactly as you hope. Edward enjoys sex, of course, but it’s also a tool of sorts in his arsenal. He uses it to bring Celia closer to him, and he uses it to show her how he feels. Watching those feelings evolve over this book, in fact, are one of the things I enjoyed most.
You get some answers in Ruin. You learn why he has targeted Celia, and you learn how he will react when he finds out who owns those shares of the Werner business. You also learn more about his sister and even Edward himself.
I am in deep with this series. I never thought I’d care for Celia, but I do! I never thought she would make me cry for her, but she does! And I certainly never thought I would root for her, but I am!
I can’t wait for Book 3. I want–I need–to know what happens next between Edward and Celia. I haven’t had enough of either of them.
Oh my word. Book 2 has you like… It just keeps getting better and better. These two Edward and Celia are just perfect for each other. I want to hate Celia so bad, but she is making it hard. Seeing this other side of her it’s hard not to hate her. Oh and Edward, gosh I just don’t have any words for him. I need an Edward, I wish I didn’t need an Edward. Since I do not want to spoil it for all the ones that have yet to read it. I will stop. Just know it’s a must read, so go get it Now. Laurelin has done it again. She has given us another amazing book, and I’m sure we all feel the same, we need more Now.
Wow, what can I say! This book is simply phenomenal. This dark and edgy romance BLEW…MY…MIND—a 10 star if I could! Well, if you read book 1, you met Edward Fasbender who is the devil in disguise and a number 1 grade alpha a$$hole, but now my perception of Edward has changed somewhat. I grappled with Edward’s change towards Celia because I wanted to continue loathing him as the devil in disguise.
After the shocking disclosure from Edward, Celia couldn’t or wouldn’t believe what was said; but still Edward wanted to control Celia and continue telling her what to do and how to do it, but now he is starting to like her. This page-turning story completely encapsulates the madness of the first stirrings of love and lust when you can’t get enough of someone and all the games between them will ruin one of them.
In this book, Celia is still on the private island, and we get to see or explore the different sides of both Edward and Celia. Why Edward pursued Celia and her father’s media business, and why Celia felt she had to continue the games with Edward. Both Edward and Celia are so complex that it is hard for them to figure each other out—yet they each have secrets they need to face. Edward and Celia are full of surprises—I was flabbergasted with the unexpected revelations that happened, but it is jaw-dropping good! Not all of its surprises are pleasant ones, but there is a certain satisfaction in experiencing a thread that is so obstinately unexpected. Find out if Edward will continue to keep Celia isolated on the private island—you will be amazed? Will their secrets be revealed? This book is letting you know what to expect later, but it is sure to be a hot as hell, sexy, intriguing and twisted dark romance!! There are several twists and turns within the story that makes it interesting. The storyline is fluid, and the characters are extremely well developed. Laurelin Paige, you did it by constructing a deliciously duplicitous edgy romance that is stupendous and will lure you into the wee hours and beyond that you will not be able to put this book down. I highly recommend this book!!
You completely have me jumping on the Fasbender Bandwagon! I’m blown away! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
My Review; based on instant book reaction to author…Laurelin…
I really am just in Awe! I have always hated Celia… like truly loathed her. I have no clue how you completely morphed my feelings for her. I’m rooting for her now… I never thought this would be possible. I didn’t want her to ever be happy… and a Edward is the Devil. I hated them both really… but I’m rooting for them… I was almost in tears when ..SPOILER REMOVED….. so now ….SPOILER REMOVED…… is the villain… and now Celia is less evil and deserves happiness…. and you completely have me jumping on the Fasbender Bandwagon…. you have such a beautiful mind… you evil genius!
You really should be proud that you can turn us haters into lovers.
WOW They say not to judge a book by its cover. Truer words have never been spoken when thinking of Celia. When we first met her she was a witch. Her games she played with peoples lives were just plain cruel. How could a person do that to someone else. Ruin allows us to know why she is the way she is. Without giving any spoilers away but to say it is no wonder she is the way she is. I went from hating her to understanding her. I’m not saying what she did with her games was the right thing to do but I can understand why. She has always felt like nothing now that she is married to Edward he is breaking her. At first I thought that was a bad thing now I am not so sure. I didn’t know how much better their story could become from reading the first and its awesome ending with Edward telling Celia that he was going to kill her but OMG did it get better. Every word written with have you hanging on until the end. Bring on Book 3.
Wow, what an intoxicating continuation to Edward and Celia’s emotional and provocative story! I was desperate for more after the jaw dropping ending in the first book Rivalry, and Ruin did not disappoint! The power games continue between Edward and Celia. Edward seems to have the upper hand as he holds her on his terms. Celia has a love/hate relationship with what is happening between her and Edward and so do I. It is hard to understand Edwards motives, and actions at times and Celia can’t forget the threat to her life! But Celia seems to be getting past his carefully constructed walls and plans. While Edward is also making Celia see a different side to herself, one that is worthy of forgiveness, respect, and love. Their strategic games continue to captivate and seduce me. The heart-pounding revelations, from both their pasts, break my heart, but also helps me to understand them just a little bit more. The attraction and chemistry between Edward and Celia is palpable and leaps right off the page! I love the direction Paige takes them, and us. It is dark, and twisty, and completely riveting! Paige has an amazing ability to make us feel and empathize with the many facets to Edward and Celia. I am so invested in what happens to them next and I can’t wait to find out in the third book, Revenge!
Y’all… you’ve got to read this!
Edward the bastard that he is, has totally stolen my heart. Oh I could slap him… because making up with him would be so much fun.
This series isn’t a to make you feel sorry for Celia but it gives you insight to why she is the way she is and Edward is helping her heal. He has some messed up ways to do that but he definitely loves her. I can see more now why she’s such a vile person and yes my heart does hurt for her.
This has been such a great little series and I’m so excited to see where it takes us next. Wonderful!
