“How could he ruin me so completely and also be the only person to make me fully whole?”
Y’all! I am so in love with the Slay Quartet! Ruin was even better then Rivarly. Each installment seems to drag me in a little more deeper. As soon as I started this book I knew I couldn’t put it down. I devoured it in a matter of days! I just had to know what was going to happen next. The roller coaster of emotions that hit you this book make for a angst feeled ride. Ruin boarders on the edge of dark romance and I love it. The danger. The thrill. The chase. All of it makes this story sinfully beautiful. The Slay Quartet is well on it’s way to becoming one of Laurelin Paige’s best work yet! I am obsessed with Cecila and Edward. They are not your usual couple and it’s so refreshing. Everything about them is unconventional and alluring. Their constant push and pull captivates you. They are this perfect storm that your waiting to hit. I am dying to know where these two are going to take me next in Revenge. I feeling Edward and Cecila are going to be one of my favorite couples to date!
“That’s all I was to him. Something insignificant. A bird. A broken bird, at that, because he’d clipped my wings.”
Cecila truly blew me away this book. I never really hated her character like I should have. I’ve always secretly hoped she would get her own books and Ruin showed me exactly why. Cecila’s character become the dragon this book and she was fierce. I admired her strength and growth this book. She peeled back her layers and I admired her vulnerability. My heart hurt for her many times, but each time she kept her head up and overcome. I am excited to see what side of her we will get next!
“My emotions had mass. My emotions had gravity. My emotions were capable of tearing a person apart to ruin.”
Edward is will on his way to ruining me. I could not get enough of his character. There’s something about the bad boys that make you fall the hardest. I loved every dangerous, possessive, and calculating part of him. He’s always 3 steps ahead and one step closer to your heart. A male character has never kept me on my toes as much as Edward. He truly is a Alpha you love to hate. I either wanted to slap him, or melt into a puddle of swoons at his feet. Edward is a mountain of layers I can’t wait to keep discovering.
“The plan had always been to ruin Celia Werner. But she was well on her way to ruining me.”
*5 STARS*
Well earned for another hauntingly explosive installment to the Slay Quartet. The wait for the next book is going to kill me. I. NEED. MORE. I can not recommend Slay enough. If you haven’t one clicked it, your truly missing out!
Ok I am so on the boarder…. after the Fixed trilogy I did not think that there was any way that I could come to like Celia. After Rivalry I was feeling bad for her. This man that she married, she knew he was not good…. but she thought that she could seduce him into being what she needed him to be, and when that didn’t work I actually felt kind of bad for her because I felt like he was sending mixed signals and then she would take a leap just to fall and then crash on her face (again). Slay brought a whole new emotion out of me. After hearing more about her story, I don’t like her yet…. but now I am not feeling bad for her like I was before…. But I feel like I better understand her and how she got into the situation she was in. And this is only the 2nd book of 4! I am quite sure that I will be a Celia fan by the time I get through with the 4th book and then I will have to go back and read Fixed Forever again so that I can see that with different eyes! Laurelin is breaking me down!!! BREAKING! ME! DOWN!!!! And I didn’t think it was going to be possible. I LOVE when an author can make me love a character that they originally made me hate.
With the way the first book ended and how long we’ve been waiting for this second book, Ruin, Slay 2 is definitly the most anticipated release.
Struck by suprise at the ending at book one, Ruin start effortlessly in department of intense mind games. With Edward as the dominant and Celia force to play in his games.
Who’s gonna win and prevail at the end?
Who’s gonna conquer and rule?
Who’s gonna loose everything?
Slay 2,Ruin is…. I can’t put it down. From the moment I see it in my Kindle to the first page I read, Laurelin Paige suck me in her world easily.
It was intense.
It was fascinating journey.
It was sexy even the waiting.
It was heart pounding angry moment ends with tears.
It was definitly mind games.
It was regrettably done In one sitting.
But it’s not the end yet.
Cause with Celia being an open book, I need Edward do the same.
Third book gonna be epic, I just know it!
I am speechless!!! Ruin my be my new favorite Laurelin Paige book!!
Ruin is the continuing story of Celia Werner and Edward Fasbender. This story broke me!!! So many freaking feels and raw emotions. Celia is a character that I have always hated but I have a new understanding as to why she is the way she is. Edward, lord what an alphahole, sets out to break her and does he ever, and not necessarily in a bad way. While he may have had a goal in mind when he started out with her, he found some goals are worth changing. They are truly meant for each other and I can’t wait to see how things play out in the next book.
„My emotions were capable of tearing a person apart to ruin.”
Oh wow… Laurelin has done the impossible – she made me like Celia Werner. And believe me, this is quite a feat, because I hated this heroine in all parts of the Fixed series. Then Celia seemed not redeemable to me. And now that I learned more about her past, about what you can’t see on the surface, I really started to feel sympathy for her.
Slay: Ruin starts where the previous book ended. After shocking revelations, I had no idea how this story would unfold and what to think about Edward’s intentions. His plan was simple, but he didn’t expect Celia to be more than just a puppet in his scheme. He also didn’t expect that this woman would induce in him the emotions that he tried at all costs to keep in check. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still the same commanding, bossy and dominating alpha we got to know, I would even say that he’s even more demanding in this part, but we can also see the soft spot he has for his new young wife. But a man like Edward wants his woman wholly. And for Celia to belong to him fully, he must first break her. Celia at first fights him as much as she can, she resists him and doesn’t give up, but after awhile she craves his attention and approval. She wants the closeness only her husband can give her. But for that to happen, she must be completely honest. But is she able to open the can of worms and face the judgment of her past?
Laurelin skillfully led Celia and Edward’s story on a new track and showed both characters from new angles. She revealed secrets that were totally unexpected and which allowed us to understand behavior and actions of both Edward and Celia. Lust and passion pour out of the pages of this story and I look forward to see what lies ahead for this couple. I’m aware that we’re only in the middle of the series and knowing Laurelin she certainly has more than one ace up her sleeve, but I’m ready and extremely excited. Time for Revenge!
Holy mother of dragons what a crazy ride!
After the jaw dropping cliffhanger in Slay, book 1 in this series, Ruin could not arrive fast enough.
You must read book 1 first, as this is not a standalone!
This installment was absolutely consuming and attention grabbing!
The push and pull. I’m actually feeling sorry for Celia?
Whaat!!
Suspenseful, thrilling and “sinisterish”, Edward and Celia’s story continued to unfold in totally unexpected ways.
I cannot wait to see what is going to happen next!
WOWZERS!!! I have never wanted to read a book more than I have wanted to read this one!!! Laurelin Paige knocked it out of the park with this book!!! Edward and Celia are so freaking hot it’s unbelievable!!! This story is so raw and utterly beautiful at the same time!!! Bring on book 3!!!
This book turned me inside out! The revelations are intense, dangerous and heart-pounding. The truth setting the stage for breaking down the past in all its pain. Note: Ruin is the second installment of the Slay Quartet. Rivalry must be read first.
We last left Celia concerned for her life. She’s been given the choice to live if she allows Edward to break her down. As it’s her only option, she chooses sessions with Edward. The intense, reveling sessions are set far apart as Edward leaves her captive on his island while returning to work. As Celia gives in to Edwards will, she’s rewarded. Edward, as Celia had done in the past, is playing a game until he’s not. Their sessions pulled them in deep. Revelations tearing them down and joining them together.
The story sent me down the inevitable rabbit hole of forgiveness. I really disliked Celia Werner but alas no longer. She’s been manipulated for far too long. I can’t wait for the next book. Someone needs to pay. 5 Stars
Continuation of Celia and Edward’s rocky relationship. I love how the characters continue to develop and grow. Celia’s motivation and behavior is explained. The fact that these characters who are unlikeable are portrayed in a way to make you like them and even root for them is a testament to the master storytelling. The series must be read in order. Can’t wait for the next installment!!
4.5 Stars
Slay:Ruin by Laurelin Paige is the second book in the Slay Quartet. It cannot be read as a stand-alone, so you’ll need to read Slay:
Rival first. There are really no words to describe all of the emotions I’m feeling right now. Ruin DESTROYED me in the best possible way.
After the way book one ended, I could not wait to get my hands on book two. I said this in my review for the first book but it bears repeating:Ms. Paige took a character that I disliked and made me feel for her and what she’s been through. My heart hurts for her<— I can't believe I just wrote that! Book two was just as amazing and while we get some answers, so many more questions arise. All I can say without spoiling anything that Celia has met her match with Edward. I seriously cannot wait to see where their story goes next in book three!
Whaaaaaaaaat?!?!?!
It’s a little scary how Ms. Paige has managed to turn my hate for Celia into so many emotions. There is still a little disgust at everything she has done in her past, but there is also pity, not only for how Edward treats her, but what she has gone through in her past. There is some admiration for how she is handling everything, and might I even say I’m growing to like the person she’s becoming?! After the cliffhanger the first book of this quartet brought, I had no idea what to expect from Ruin. I’m so glad I went into it with an open mind, as there were so many revelations brought to light, I came away with an appreciation for everyone in the book. I don’t want to give anything away, just know this quartet will be your new obsession!
WOW! Sometimes i can’t believe what I am reading with this author… because it is so DARN GOOD! The chemistry between these characters… the never ending emotions you get… how you hate… then you dislike… then you love! How does this author do that to me every time with these characters!
I love this series… the emotional impact this will have on me will be never forgotten… and we have two more books!!!
Wow.
Edward Fasbender has ruined me for all other book boyfriends! Alpha Dom perfection that had me squirming from page ONE.
The story is fantastic. Rivalry left my jaw on the floor, but Ruin still managed to blow my mind. We discover more about who Celia is. It’s more backstory. More character development. More sex. More Edward. More EVERYTHING. It’s suspenseful with a kiss of darkness. And I couldn’t put it down. I’m an aloof alpha, antihero, Stockholm romance fan and this book was such a treat for me.
It’s bittersweet agony knowing two more books are still to come bc 1. I can’t wait to read more Edward and 2. I know he will always leave me wanting more.
If you haven’t met Edward, you need to get your hands on him today!!
“You’ll get out of here alive. As soon as you’re broken down. And when that truly happens, there’s no way you’d turn me in to anyone.”
“Oh, really?”
” You seem not to understand what you’ll become when you’re broken down.”
“What’s that?”
“Mine.”
Oh. My. God. I cannot believe where this story is headed!! I usually write longer reviews than I’m going to here. But, I’m afraid I’ll give too much away if I don’t keep this brief!!! Let’s just say that the tables are turning, and secrets revealed might just even the playing field and create a common goal.
Edward and Celia are both masters at the games they’ve played. But neither of them expected the rules to change. Who will forfeit first? Is the game worth playing, if even the victor loses everything?
I know this is super vague, but you just have to read it!! I’ve hated Celia and I’ve hated Edward. But, now? I think I’m falling in love with both of them!! You definitely have to read this series!!
I really wanted to Hate Edward by the end of Slay i thought i had. when i started Ruin I wanted nothing more than to have Celia turn the tables on him. Make him her puppet and i knew deep in my heart that wouldn’t happen. what i didn’t know that would happen is that Edward made me turn around and root for him. The sessions that he had with Celia were necessary to make them both trust each other. who knew that once that happened that would change things between the two, she is a spunky Girl with such a smart mouth at times. i can’t wait for the next book i know it’s going to be great.
I can’t believe it’s possible but I actually like Celia! Laurelin has the ability to write a story so great that you come to love the villains. I’m so glad that she decided to write Celia’s story so now we get to see why she is the way she is. This second book in the series gives more details about her and Edward and you can’t help but like them more for understanding them better. Can’t wait for the next one!!
I thought Laurelin Paige outdid herself with Slay: Rivalry but HOLY MOLY – Slay: Ruin has left me speechless & wanting more. The intensity, the heat, the war of minds all come together to make Slay: Ruin a thrilling and addictive MUST READ!
You’re gonna want to grab a copy immediately!
Oh dear god!
I feel like every emotion was pulled out of me reading this, the turmoils and revelations were just
I knew Celia’s story was going to be deep but this was so deep into her soul I didn’t know if even I’d make it out after hearing her words.
This book is definitely more complex and for sure a head twister that keeps you on the tips of your toes!
Laurelin is really giving her readers every single detail of the woman we used to hate!
But when reading her story will this still be the case or will we see things more clearer through Celia’s eyes?
Well, book one (Rivalry) ended with a shock, this one ends with more of a question (about the future.) Same great writing. If you’ve read the Fixed Trilogy you probably hate Celia. Well, in this book you learn more about her past and why she is the way she is (or was.) She starts to grow on you, and you almost feel sorry for her. Edward, for the most part is the same cold alpha as he was in book one, but we get more insight into his thoughts in this book… he’s not quite vulnerable, but we get to see a softer side to him. There is some self discovery for the characters. This book is quite intense and a teeny bit on the darker side. It’s a combination of suspense and romance (and erotica.) It’s a captivating story and beautifully written. Due to the nature of the book, it is suitable for mature readers.
This novel is spectacular. Things got very amped up in this book and it got me all kinds of excited!
Ruin was very thriller-like and did not lack in the steam department. I loved the dual POV, and I loved its intrigue and its mystery.
We get to see a lot more into Celia’s past. We learn more about her relationship with people, and we get to see a more humane side of her other than what we see in the Fixed series. We also see her vulnerable side, see what is beneath the makeup and the dresses. We see the real Celia, and it is very refreshing.
And I am in LOVE with Edward! Some of his actions were questionable. VERY QUESTIONABLE, but I loved his alpha side and his intensity. His intensity is SUUUPER attractive!
As for steam. That alone gets 5 stars! It was steamy, it was dominant, it passionate and yet somewhat intimate. Something truly Celia and Edward.
And from how it ended, gimme book three right now!!
Ruin totally slain me. It was thriller-esque with a lot of intensity, angst and passion with a huge slather of vulnerability and humanity. It is seriously addictive and I’m already wanting more. Incredible!
**There are some sensitive subjects mentioned in the novel, which you should be aware of.
