more
I’ve read the whole series. Be prepared to enjoy this episode and even though it can stand alone, you’ll want to read all the ones to follow!
Ruby is a one of a kind hellion, ready to take on a husband that was forced on her by the King. Lots of action and a growing romance. I WILL be reading the other gems of this series. (Pun intended)
Fun! Entertaining ! Enjoyable !
This was my first book to read from Author Elizabeth Rose,

Wonderful series – loved all the books!
Loved reading this book.
I liked it so well I purchased the Lord of the Blade series!!
I enjoyed this novel about a young woman who wanted to be a knight. I was much like that as a young girl so I identified with her. It was a fun read and I liked how she finally thought being a woman was a positive but she could still be herself and fall in love.
Great book. Loved new set of characters and wom6who help to save themselves.
Interesting read. Ruby tried to be the son her father never had. She was strong minded and not at all lady-like. Nyle liked that she could defend herself. Once she accepted her situation, Ruby became more interested in being the type of wife Nyle needed. Danger surrounded her as well as Nyle, and I enjoyed how they worked together as a couple. Their love developed quickly as did the trust between them.
This is my unsolicited review.
The Earl of Blackpool has 4 daughters and Ruby de Burgh is the oldest. She feels more comfortable training with the soldiers than acting like a lady.
She makes a death bed promise to her mother, that she will always be with her dad and never leave him. She vows that she will never marry.
The time has come for the Earl to start to arrange marriages for her 4 daughters.
Lord Nyle Sheffeld is on a on a special assignment for the King and needs to be married as soon as possible. The only problem is, his last 3 attempts at marriage all ends in tragedy. All 3 brides were murdered on their wedding night and everyone thinks that Nyle killed them.
Nyle picks Ruby to be his 4 bride, since he feels that she can protect herself. Will Ruby survive her wedding night and come to love her husband.
Ruby has always thought she would be allowed to pick her own husband and as the spoiled child of her father, she thought he would keep the promise of such when her mother and newborn brother died.
In the day and age of the story, women were property and her father decided to allow Lord Sheffield to choose one of his daughters as his wife.
Ruby is the only one of the daughters that is not a lady, she can’t sew or cook or manage a castle, but she can fight with dagger, sword and quintain. She can’t believe he actually picked her to wed!
The trials she goes through before she finally decides to accept her lot as a married lady of the castle makes a delightful story that will keep you interested to the last page…
The author uses the symbol of the dagger with a jewel for each of four sisters, and Ruby is the tomboy of the family. Lord Nyle Dacre has a problem with wives. Three have been murdered on their wedding day in the last two months. He marries Ruby because he believes she can defend herself. Their differences are resolved too quickly, and the villain is obvious. Some work on the plotting and pacing would have made this a better story. With an obvious villain, another villain should have been added to create more suspense or a surprise ending.
Stupid story, ignorant characters! Childish book
Started well, but ended a bit trite.
I didn’t really like the heroine until the end of the book when she seemed to have a complete change of personality. It was also hard for me to believe that the characters were so oblivious to who the villain was. I finished the book, but it is not one I would choose to read again.
I liked that it was easy to read, enjoyable and action-packed. Really enjoyed the characters.
Formula writing with horrible dialogue. I am not recommending.
An Okay Read
Sadly, Ruby; Daughters of the Dagger, Book 1 was just an okay read. It was obvious that the author, Elizabeth Rose, tried to build a believable fourteenth century world, but she just missed the mark. The story had promise, but the stilted dialogue and average writing just contributed to this tale falling into the category of so-so. In addition, the hero, Nyle, was truly unlikable in the beginning. Thankfully he improved. As to the heroine, Ruby, there is no way the daughter of a fourteenth century earl would have been allowed to run wild. Still, the concept was entertaining until she seemed to just quit being herself. Even the chemistry between Ruby and Nyle was hate to love in 0 to 60 seconds. In other words it felt contrived. The mystery within the plot was the best part of the story. But I ended up actually feeling sorry for the villain. Go figure. Lastly, although the ending was sweet, it also felt a bit cliche.
Content alert: This book contains some mild swearing and moderately described marital sex.
I was disappointed in “Ruby”. Too detailed sexual situations. I quit reading the book not even halfway through. What a shame, it was well written.
