“Burkey balances her well-written storyline by combining…literary tools with plenty of twists and turns” 5 Star Review, Pacific Book ReviewDr. Jane O’Neil, an American psychiatry professor, books her family on a rafting trip down the Zambezi River, seeking redirection and reconnection with her troubled son.Katura Masaku, a smart but impulsive teenager in Botswana, sneaks across the border to … sneaks across the border to Victoria Falls, naively confident she can rescue her wrongfully-arrested older brother.
Her optimism is crushed by a corrupt police department that’s willing to punish the innocent. And Jane’s river trip ends violently with a hijacking that turns into an extended hostage situation. Zimbabwe’s political chaos, not to mention the jungle itself, puts both Jane and Katura in danger.

The plot involves a very realistic political intrigue with corrupt police and dangerous characters. The best feature of the story are the characters and how they interact. It reveals a lot about characters, family relationships and trust.
Too unbelievable.
A fascinating take on African poloitics, great female characters, wonderful setting
Jumpy, disconnected plot. Unlikely characters . Hard to follow. I don’t recommend it.
Did not like. Not entertaining. Not a relaxing book.
I really liked the characters and cared what happened to them. Interesting to have it set in Africa, very good read.
EXCELLENT! 10 stars
Reminds me of my time in Africa and the challenges there.
Interesting story line. A bit slow at times and somewhat predictable.
A fun ready anyway!
I just couldn’t get into this book, it was boring. It could be that I didn’t read far enough in the book, but every time I tried to read it, I fell asleep!
I could not get into the storyline.
Too many stories and scenarios to keep my attention. Not worth the effort.

Interesting look into a culture I was not familiar with.
I had a little trouble getting into it, but then I was hooked.
It was a very interesting story and well written. We don’t know enough what goes on on the African continent
Just ok
It was a goodread.
Expected more of the story to be in the safari bush.
An Exciting Read With Relateable Characters
“Rubbing Stones” brings the fascination of culture clash to a solid thriller. The story holds plenty of surprises and loads of character development set against the backdrop of Africa. I would read more from Burkey.
