“There’s so much at stake for both of them internally AND externally, and the hero has to adapt and overcome quickly—which he does, so I fell so hard for him! Jared is my book boyfriend.”— Caro Carson, USA Today bestselling author

This is the Trilogy review this book is included in…Sort of like 3 prequels to this authors world. I had read Warleader several months ago, and definitely felt I was missing a bit of something, but not enough to detract from that story. I was actually very nice learning how Earth saved the Coalition and became part of it. Well written, well developed characters and world. i am now looking forward to reading Warleader again and the next in that series.
Read via Kindle Unlimited but feel it well worth your time and $$.
Loved Jared and Keira
Jared Jasper, fighter pilot, real estate developer, member of California’s first family, now Consort to thr Queen of the Coalition. Curiosity about the working of the REEF’s ship, lead to a chance meeting, and a misconception. Jared hates the lie he is forced to live, and he is determined to be a good husband to his new wife.
Keira may be Queen, a descendent of the goddess, she has been hidden away, her Ministers rule. When they are challenged by the backwater planet Earth, she finds herself married to it’s Prince.
When Jared is almost killed arriving to his wife’s home world and his claim is disregarded, he knows something is very wrong with the Coalition government. Jared doesn’t know who he can trust. The fate of the people of Earth, as well as the Coalition are in danger. He is determined to keep the woman he is falling for safe.
Fast paced and steamy political romance. Great follow up to Guardian Alien.
Jared Jasper couldn’t have known that playing around in an alien spacecraft would start a chain of events that would end with him getting married off to the beautiful Queen Keira to secure a peace treaty between Earth and the Coalition. As Jasper and Queen Keira start falling for each other, secret traitors start closing in … will this be the end for Jasper and Queen Keira?
Royal Recruit is an action-packed, suspenseful and steamy story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I can’t wait to read Cyborg and the Single Mom, Book 3 of the OtherWorldly Men series.
A combination of errors that leads to a love story that sees its share of being on a knifes edge was a great read that gave me the giggles. Of course there’s a wee bit of intrigue, a touch of treachery and a dash or two of action to round it all out.
The second book in the OtherWorldly Men series a well written story that held my interest throughout. This series is just getting better with each book. I want to read the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
To prevent an alien army from invading Earth, Jared, “The Prince,” agrees to marry their Queen. This is when everything begins to go wrong: The couple is quickly married, and a political conspiracy is revealed after several attempts are made to kill Jared. Queen Keira is in love with Jared. and no longer wants to be rid of her barbarian. It is a delightful story which is funny and moves quickly.

President Laurel Ramos announced that the alien invasion force threatening Earth had been turned away and the state of emergency had been lifted. Senator Jana Jasper and Major Cavin Caydinn had officially saved the world, and celebrations broke out everywhere! Jared Jasper, the senator’s brother, real estate developer and National Guard fighter pilot, warned that the Coalition Fleet would be coming back, but at least this gave them time to prepare.
When Queen Keira, the feisty Queen of the Sakkaran Coalition, learns about Jared, they allegedly want to cement the peace by having Jared, the Earth barbarian, marry her. He reluctantly agrees to be the peace offering to prevent invasion of Earth. In actuality, Keira is Queen in name only and can’t do much to enforce those peace thoughts. But can Jared to anything to save Keira and still protect Earth when the bad guys make their move?
Lots of politics, misunderstanding, and confusion will keep the reader chuckling through this misadventure! Jared is amazing as he quickly adapts to any situation they throw at him. Grab your copy and watch him in action!
Great reversal of familiar trope
I’ve always loved Susan Grant’s work, and this one is no exception. I truly enjoyed the out-of-the-ordinary reversal of the “Earthwoman stolen by handsome alien” trope. In this case, the “victim” is an EarthMAN, and the “thief” is a beautiful alien princess. It’s interesting to see how the story changes when the Earthling is a man. For instance, the hero, Jared Jasper, has the agency to consent (albeit under a lot of pressure!) to marrying the alien princess for the good of Earth’s population. This is not what one would call a “sweet” romance, because the scenes between the two protagonists get very steamy. In any case, while the relationship between Jared and the princess, Kiera, starts out a bit rough, it quickly grows into a tender affection — one might even say true love. But I was charmed by the tender feelings Jared develops for Kiera, who has never been allowed her independence, and who distrusts most of the palace functionaries who surround her. I made the mistake of picking up this book late at night, and read it one sitting, ending up finishing it at 4 am.

I adore this author. She really pulls at the heart strings and keeps the drama and romance flowing throughout her book. If you read this book prepare to be transported worlds away! It will be a ride you will enjoy. Susan does not pull any punches with her story telling but yet she keeos you engaged with a outcome you do not see coming!

Wow!! This is one more roller-coaster ride of a story. I love the fast pace and steamy adventure.
Jared, through a series of misunderstandings, ends up posing as the Prince of Earth in the continued effort to trick the Coalition into thinking that Earth is more advanced than it is. He is shocked when the Coalition responds by offering a peace treaty in exchange of his marriage to their Queen Kiera.
These two protagonists start off like oil and water, but join together in battling intrigues and conspiracies.
This series is a hot and spicy page turner. You won’t forget these characters, as you look forward to the next book.
The princess and the commoner
Full of royal intrigue and interstellar “diplomacy”, this is a “could not put down” sci fi romance ride. You don’t know who’s chess piece are which colour until the very end of this very satisfying novel. Can’t wait to read the third and final book in this series! Ten out of ten, would recommend.
The story line was good, the character work was great, and the book had a smooth flow to it. This was a great addition to the series. I’m ready for the next one.

Oh, this story is GOOD! Jared, real estate businessman and weekend warrior fighter pilot (handle “The Prince”) accidentally draws the attention of Keira, spitfire Queen of the Sakkaran Coalition. Keira is Queen in name only with treachery surrounding her. What can Jared, a “barbarian” from Earth do to save Keira without jeopardizing Earth?
You’ll want to read Royal Recruit in one sitting. After setting the premise of the book, Grant spins a dazzling page turner to finale! This book builds on the stellar book, Guardian Alien: OtherWorldly Men #1. Jared, the barbarian and royal recruit, reluctantly agrees to marry the beautiful, strong-willed, Goddess-Queen of Sakka as the peace offering to prevent invasion of Earth. Deception and delicious plucky moments scale the heights of romance and uncover a twisted complicated coup.
I highly recommend reading Guardian Alien prior to this one to understand the story line. As I’ve mentioned in other reviews, I appreciate Grant’s writing strengths that create intelligent, audacious women and rational futuristic worlds…both which keep me coming back for more.
This is a space opera with a fascinating combination of the archaic and the futuristic. There’s a goddess-queen, an arranged marriage, palace eunuchs, spaceships, nano-medicine, and cyborg assassins. There is a lot of convoluted political intrigue, but the story centers on Jared and Keira who are married through an interplanetary teleconference! Despite that inauspicious beginning, we watch them fall in love. Just when it seems their marriage will work out, the political plots come to a head. Just hang on….. Susan Grant pulls a happy ending out of her hat.
Start with the first book, Guardian Alien, or you’ll be hopelessly lost. Then settle in to enjoy the zany plot.
