Royal, Riveting, Romantic!
Royal Gentleman by Christy Pastore is a standalone friends to lovers, royal romance. Kerris and Nicholas were childhood friends. They grew up together and shared an intense connection. However, when the monarchy is voted out of Sardones they gradually drift apart.
Kerris lives in Chicago and is a freelance photo journalist. She has a close knit family and is enjoying her career pursuits. Nicholas is well traveled and a bit of an adventurer. He is loyal to his family and the people of Sardones. A sudden discovery that the vote to get rid of the monarchy was rigged, thrusts Nicholas and his family back into rule. Nicholas asks Kerris to accompany him back to Sardones, because he doesn’t know who can be trusted. He only knows he trusts Kerris explicitly.
The time that Nicholas and Kerris spends together ignites old feelings and chemistry. The camaraderie and passion are potent. They truly see each other’s hearts. The sex is spectacular and the friendship unbreakable. Through tragedy, political conflict, and a plot to once again end the monarchy Prince Nicholas and Kerris cling to their love and faith in one another. I enjoyed the bits of suspense and intrigue that were added to this story. It helped to strengthen the characters and round out the plot. This was a satisfying and swoony read!
This was my first book by Christy Pastore and I really enjoyed it. I love a good royal read and this one didn’t disappoint. I loved that we have a commoner paired up with a prince! Add to that, they were childhood friends and that makes it so much more. With a good deal of suspense, great chemistry, interesting supporting characters, some twisty hold-your-breath moments and a nice dash of heat, this is one you do not want to miss!
I really wanted to love the story but it was lacking somehow. Maybe I wanted there to be more of a build up before Nicholas and Kerris dived into their relationship. Especially because they hadn’t really been involved prior to their friendship ending years ago. For me, it would have been better for a lead up rather than just falling into bed straight away. Their chemistry was great but the two of them rekindling childhood crushes so quickly didn’t sit right with me. I would have liked some more conflict on the part of Kerris and more resistance especially when the blurb hinted at her defiance.
While the relationship side of things did irk me, I enjoyed the intrigue and suspense within the story. It seems that someone is targeting the royal family and your mind wanders about who is the culprit. Is it just one mastermind or a group? Xavier was a great character and the relationship he has with his brother Nicholas was brilliant. The interactions between the brothers was at time hilarious and heartfelt. It would be great to see a story about Xavier.
Royal Gentleman began like the perfect romance: Nicholas and Kerris reuniting after so long, all the sexual tension that surrounds them, then all of a sudden BAM!…All I can say is, expect the unexpected. This book has it all. Lust and power and scandal intertwine in this friends to lovers romance that kept my toes on point whilst simultaneously swooning and fanning myself with my kindle.
In true Pastore style, we are whisked intto a world of fine foods, high fashion and paparazzi. I love how she is able to incorporate all these favorite things to paint the pictures of the worlds she creates. I feel like I would be stalking these characters in real life.
While RG is a standalone I am still left wanting more from these characters. Maybe we will see a spin off at some point (hint hint). Definitely a perfect summer read to get tangled in for a day. Truly a royal treat.
Oh my crowning jewels! This book was fantastic! The reigniting of Nicholas and Kerris’s childhood events turned a friendship to a loving relationship! This was a wonderful Royals read that included all the heat, drama, death, history…just all of it so perfectly wrapped up together in an enthralling storyline!
Author Christy Pastore has a wonderful writing technique, it is easy to follow, hot, the characters (not even just the main characters, but also the supporting ones as well!), the suspense and second chance romance blended so well! I absolutely loved Royal Gentleman! 5 Stars!
This book was full of twists and turns that you will not expect! a very good and steamy story for the summer!
