The jury is out. Marta has hired Rosato & Associates to help with a murder trial of a rich real estate developer, Elliot Steere. Steere is accused of killing a homeless man who tried to carjack him. Steere then tells Marta that he did it. And, there is nothing she can do about it.
Marta is furious over being played by Steere. She is determined to see him convicted, but legally, can do nothing. She winds up Judy and Mary and turns them loose with few facts and lots of questions.
Pretty good story. Longer than Scottoline normally writes.
I am never disappointed with this author.
A master of words!
Contradictory details
So much happening in a 24 hour period, and some of the details — mainly the weather — didn’t jive. This was supposedly set during a blizzard after 4:00 on in a weekday. In winter months in Philly, it would have been dark by 5:00, which means some of the scenes wouldn’t have worked as described. At times, it seems that the storm has passed, but then there are more references to snow falling.
I wondered at the one character ‘s death: why bring her into the story just to kill her off? but it made for a tidy ending.
Fast paced, and sets the stage for another story to follow without being a despised cliffhanger.
Read book 1 and 2 prior to this. I read out of order. Went back and read 1-6. Great female power. Friendship, Italian Family food gathering.
I enjoy all in this series
love her books, always enjoy them
I was disappointed. Too much write tried to push into one week.
Predictable. Not much of a mystery. Simultaneously bored and nervous while reading. Basically just running around on a snow storm bumbling into facts.
Suspenseful!….kept me reading to see how it ends!
another good book with many twists and turns.
I would recommend this book. Really enjoyed it but not as much as her other books. That’s why the 4 stars.
I love all her books. Have not found one I have not loved yet!!
Fantastic Read!!
A good courtroom drama, albeit not too realistic.Highly entertaining.
I have read a number of Lisa Scottoline’s books since they’re based in the Philadelphia area a I live in a neighboring state. At first this book didn’t peak my interest but I couldn’t put it down when I got to the last 100 pages. It wasn’t one of her best novels.
I love all of the books written by this author and the fact they are set in Philadelphia makes it just that much better as I know the area well. Great story and an interesting way to create some additional lead characters in this book. Very well written and entertaining.
I could not put it down. One of the best reads I have had in a while.
Listened to the audio book. Maybe it was the mood I was in, but I felt it was a little drawn out, repeating and over exaggerted in places.
