Book one in this series introduces us to husband and wife team Greyson and Caden who met and fell in love while serving together in a military war zone and as they return home and try to adapt to civilian life. WOW I’m not sure words would be ever able to explain the intricate relationship between these two characters as they deal with PTSD and the ravages of war. The story line was so layered and intense that it had you on edge, enthralled and addicted through the whole book. The characters were so interesting and complicated and you just needed to know more. The sex was rough, hard and raw and may push the boundaries for some readers. I had this book on audiobook and the narrators Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden deserve an Academy award for their portrayal of these two characters and the love they have for each other, this series was an absolutely brilliant insight into the depths of PTSD and what military personal have to face when they come home as forgotten casualties of war. This is a must read.
Another great book by CD Reiss. I have loved everything of hers from the
beginning, and Rough Edge does not disappoint, can’t wait for more!
Shocked That’s how I stayed when I finished reading. Forget the synopsis. Rough Edge will take you beyond what you imagine. With a journey full of ups and downs, tension and mystery, everything seems to fit perfectly. Until the end slaps the reader’s face. Nothing is what it seems like. What’s the truth?
Rough Edge is the first book in the series The Edge and C.D. Reiss once again manages to achieve a new success. The reading surprised me. I already knew the author, I have read her previous books, I am familiar with her writing, but it did not prepare me for the impact I received. I did not expect the plot and its twists and turns.
We followed Greyson and Caden, she was a military and he was a cardiac surgeon. Greyson came from a military family, but even so her choice to join the military shocked her family. During a mission she meets Caden, a wealthy, well-known heart surgeon who volunteers after losing his parents on Sept. 11. The two fall in love and get married. Caden returns to his life and waits for Greyson to end her time in the army. The book begins at this point, with her after being dismissed, returning home and so living the married life with Caden.
Adaptations are necessary because life as a civilian is unknown to her, she will now work as a psychiatrist, which is her academic background, and despite the time spent together in the war, both have not had time to be a normal couple, facing the day by day.
And little by little the affectionate and gentle man for whom she fell in love is giving way to a cold and domineering person. Caden thinks he’s losing his mind. Greyson loves him and will do everything to help. And at this point, the relationship reaches a more dangerous nuance, where sadism and masochism flirt to dangerous points, throwing the reader into erotic and intense situations. The tones of the narrative become darker, reality mingles with certain mental confusions, an alter ego arises and more questions enter into equation.
The ending is overwhelming, completely changing the narrative direction, showing another hitherto unknown face and featuring a brilliant cliffhanger.
Holy moly this was intense and filled with twists and turns. CD Reiss kept me on the edge of my seat leaving me questioning everything about Caden and Greyson. I enjoyed this couple and their dynamic. She’s a major and he’s a captain which was a cool surprise that she outranked him. Now that Greyson is home from war she’s working as a psychiatrist and Caden a heart surgeon. It takes time for her to get back to the civilian life and slowly things with Caden starts to change. That’s all I want to reveal. Their chemistry is off the charts and as the story unfolds so does their sexual needs. The heat and tension increased as well and I was entertained big time.
Rough Edge is the first book in a four book series and it was a fabulous introduction to this married couple. CD Reiss has laid a great foundation for the remaining books. She’s an expert when it comes to dark and edgy erotica and with Rough Edge she succeeds flawlessly.
I’m ready for more. More twists and delicious sexy scenes between Caden and Greyson. This is just the beginning and I couldn’t be happier.

What the what !!!!
I’ve read CD Reiss for a few years now and have loved everything she’s written. This is so different the Suspense the WTF & OMG is off the charts.
Caden- he definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat, and even at that your not sitting on there comfortably…. the wait… the anticipation holt Jesus !!
Hot AF
Grayson- sweet lord woman you have your work cut out for you but my god the “rewards” nearly had me in a puddle !!!!
I cannot wait for the next book to get back into their world and find out what the hell happens next !!!!
But for now I’m this going to keep saying what the hell just happened!!
Interesting twists and hot, steamy sex!
Good Lord, I don’t know how I feel about this book. Definitely wasn’t expecting the twists it took after the Novella, and honestly, I don’t usually read books like this, but it was strangely addicting. Greyson and Caden’s story is filled with mind control, abuse, sexual dominance, borderline violent, terror, intensity that’s off the charts, mental illness and bizarre behavior that is very difficult to read at times. I’m telling you, Christian Grey has nothing on Caden, that was just the tip of disturbing content that is in this story. Although I don’t want to scare you away from this book, this story is definitely not for the faint hearted, but as in Fifty Shades, you are trying to see the underlying story here, Caden’s overwhelming love for Greyson, and how each of them won’t give up on each other. Even though this is much more intense than Fifty Shades could ever be, and five years ago I had a difficult time with the dominate situations in that story, I am still drawn to the overall story that the author has created so far. There are part in this book that, for me, were extremely difficult to read, violent in nature towards this woman, but she’s a consenting adult to a point, nevertheless, still difficult to get through in parts, so beware as you pick this book up. I’m intrigued by Ronin, and his position in all of this, definitely don’t trust him. Am immediately going into the second book, hoping there is a bit of relief from the intensity the first book had. Somehow, I don’t think so…..
I struggled with the rating of this book, 3, 4 or 5 stars. Ended up going with 5 because any book like this that can keep me actually reading it has earned those 5 stars. Very well written, but definitely intense, so get ready for the ride!
You come to find out part of the male lead character’s secret. The dynamic of patient and doctor gets blurred in the relationship. Very real when it comes to PTSD in the military and psychological warfare on the mind. I didn’t continue with the series because I figured it out.
*picks mouth off floor* HOLY SHIT!!!! What the hell did I just read?!?! And I’m supposed to review this on Amazon? LOL! They might not approve of my words. This book is a total mind fuck. I can’t wait to dive into book two to find out what happens next. And I can’t even explain my thoughts because Reiss has them so fucking twisted right now.
OMFG! Mind is blown.
CD Reiss has blown me away. Rough Edge is totally addictive as it wraps you up in the darkness that is Caden and Greyson’s marriage. I am completely speechless and at a loss for words to describe this unbelievable book. There were a rollercoaster of emotions running through me while reading this book and I loved every.single.one.of.them.
I am ruined and broken over this book. Caden and Greyson are amazing characters. Their love for one another is incredible. Greyson is willing to give and do anything for her husband even if it means ruining herself to do it. She gives herself to his demons freely with trust and acceptance. It is both scary deliciously erotic to watch her feed his demon to keep it at bay. It is dark and erotic and fucking addicting. Caden and Greyson are like a drug I want more of. Caden is struggling with something he can’t understand. But all he knows is that it wants Greyson and hurting her is the only way to make himself better. As Caden gives his wife both pain and pleasure, Greyson’s not sure which side of Caden she wants more.
Rough Edge is a must read book. It will blow your mind and then some. It is hot as hell and has a darkness unlike anything I’ve ever read. I am dying to know what happens next.
I was first introduced to CD Reiss with Beg and my god, I fell hook, line and sinker for her writing. I’ve been patiently waiting to go back to the darkside of her writing and we are definitely there with Rough Edge, book #1 in the Edge series.
Usually, I go into a book knowing a bit about what I’m reading. I head to GoodReads and take a look at some reviews but with Rough Edge, I stayed far away from any sort of spoilers. I felt I needed to go into this totally blind. I’m so glad I did because Caden and Greyson owned every single minute of this story and by the end of the book, my soul.
This is probably the first time I won’t write a long review because you just need to experience this book and I don’t want to give one single minute of it away. If you love dark, dirty, extremely hot and rough sex, this book is for you.
This book is twisted.
This book is a mindf*ck.
This book is absolutely amazing.
Bring on On The Edge.
I know this has been said a million times, but I just can’t come up with a better word than explosive to describe what I just read. Not gonna lie, it took me three tries to finish the book but that has nothing to do with the book itself and everything to do with me. I wasn’t in the right place mentally to appreciate this story for what it is until I was, because it was darker than dark.
Rough Edge is exactly what the title implies, rough and edgy. There was a feeling of anxiety/ edginess within me when I read the installment. Every time I turned a page I was expecting something explosive and it didn’t disappoint. There’s not much to tell you about the story itself at this point because this is just the first installment. However, I will say this … pay attention to the reviews so you understand the content before you one-click. This is an intensely dark story and my hunch is that it’s only going to get darker. Be in the right place in your head before you begin. I would hate for anyone to disparage this story just because your head wasn’t in it. C.D. Reiss has proven time and time again that she is a powerful word wizard. This story might just catapult her into a whole other dimension or word wizary!

Wow. That’s what I got. Wow.
This book, this book is brutal on your heart.
Read the prequel. It’s good back story.
In it you’ll meet Greyson & Caden.
Both serving in the Iraq war in a medical capacity.
That sounds so cut and dry. It’s not. It’s heart wrenching and breaking.
Greyson is a career military psychiatrist, she’s responsible for the well-being of the medical personnel treating injured soldiers. Also she assists the injured as well.
Caden is a surgeon in the army. Who at times can go 4-5 days with no break, real sustenance or rest. He’s a machine. Saving lives.
The meet: She walks in on him changing and he smarts off. Then shows her the goods. (That’s in the prequel).
Their connection and chemistry is instant. He tells her relatively quickly he wants her. It’s awesome.
You feel the love they have for each other.
In this book, I don’t want to even say anything because it is so out of left, I don’t want to ruin it for you.
Let’s say.
If you like her Submission series with Jonathan & Monica, YOU WILL LOVE THIS.
If you are looking for a smoking hot read involving s&m, an alpha who loves his wife and she loves him… read this.
If you are looking for a book that will break you, this is it.
If you’re looking for a book that you …
FEEL. EVERYTHING. THEY. ARE. DEALING. WITH>>>> THIS IS IT!!
Fair warning. There is consent. But there could be trigger warnings. I would say this is a dark read but different dark than you probably think. Think tears of Tess by pepper winters or Fiona’s story by Ms Reiss.
Final warning.
This is a 3.5 book series.
0.5 & 1 are out. 2 comes out on 6/12.
So this does not wrap up in a sweet HEA this book.
But with those warnings… I still say read this now!!
CD Reiss
WOWZA! That was erotic, hot, and all sorts of mind blowing.
Caden is an enigma. A generous and compassionate husband on one end of the spectrum and a demanding, take charge alpha on the other. I had no idea what to expect since I went in blind, but holy wow did I get more than I bargained for.
Here’s what I loved: It’s the CD Reiss that I love! Dark and edgy. The book pushes past normal conventions of romance. If you’re looking for sweet, this isn’t it. I love flirting with the edge. Seeing what lurks underneath and in the shadows. That’s exactly what Rough Edge gives the reader. I certainly got what I wanted.
The writing reflects the tone of the book. It’s distinctive and feels like part of the experience.
The secondary characters and the conflict were the shining stars for me. Number one because I saw some diversity in the characters and secondly because I’ve never read anything like this before. It’s intriguing and grabbed my attention like nothing else has in a long while. In a word, Amazing! The author didn’t shy away from the tough topics in this one. I don’t want to give anything away, so just read it and see for yourself. Recommended
I feel like this book gave me heart problems and this is just the first in the series so what the fuck will even happen to me?
Every bone in my body was aware of this story. That is how it affected me. My senses were working overtime. I was hyperventilating, too excited to do anything but keep reading and at one point I had to actually walk away from the book. I wanted to walk repeatedly into walls because I DID NOT KNOW HOW TO COPE.
This book is not for the faint of heart. I swear to God you need to be 100% okay because this is not just a read. It’s a fucking experience that will consume me, overwhelm you and leave you wanting more and more.
Caden is so broken SO BROKEN he actually defines the word and owns it’s royalties. I wanted to reach into the book and hug the fuck out of this man. I was actually immensely proud of him for being so courageous about everything that was happening. His honesty is what made me love him. Also, I just bloody adore his crazy. Y’all aren’t ready for this man and never will be.
Greryson is my darling. This woman deserves all the awards in the World for being a legit badass. Her strength is phenomenal because the way she loves Caden and the way he reciprocated it, (in fucking spades, btw) cannot be possible between ordinary mortals. So yeah it’s possible Greyson is secretly Diana Prince and we might never know.
CD Reiss wrote this like we’re in the middle of Renaissance and is delivering the people with a World class Gothic novel. I still have chills people and I read this two weeks ago.
I am so obsessed with this story and cannot wait to read more.
This book, leaves you breathless and uncomfortable, and feels like vintage C.D. Reiss. Back to beginning when I fell in love with this authors uniquely stylized, intricate, thoughtful writing and bold, passionate story telling. The way she interlaces psychology and manipulation with brilliant fervor throughout the pages of her stories. Rough Edge holds all of that within it’s pages and so much more. It’s deeply nuanced into a streamline of one couple’s story of keeping it together despite the enormous challenge set before them. It’s brave, complex, intense, and classically laced with Reiss’s distinct trickery to leave you reeling without knowing which way is up.
I’m giddy with excitement over this dangerously remarkable book and the dark promise of what’s to come in the rest of this intriguing series. C.D. Reiss packs a powerful punch introducing readers to what’s sure to be a thrilling, mindful, impassioned, edgy series of books featuring these two one-of-a-kind characters. Rough Edge skirts the lines of possibility within the gray areas by pushing boundaries, blurring lines, and crossing into the shadows hidden beneath the surface. It’s classic C.D. Reiss. The kind of storytelling I fell in love with when first introduced to her. It’s beautifully mind bending and tragically healing. And I can’t wait for more.
Gripping
“I want to destroy you.”
HOLY SHIT, you guys! HOLY SHIT! Why the hell am I so surprised when CD Reiss knocks it out of the fucking park?! I mean, she is a ROCK STAR when it comes to this type of mind-fuckery, so I’m not sure why I was sitting their slack-jawed once I finished ROUGH EDGE. Reiss is no stranger to the darker side of romance, but Greyson and Caden’s beginning was no fucking joke!
This is where I tell you that you absolutely need to pick up CUTTING EDGE, the prequel to The Edge Series. I’m pretty sure it’s FREE on all retailers, but it doesn’t matter because I believe it’s an ABSOLUTE MUST to dive into this first and cut your teeth on what CD Reiss is sure to do with your heart, body, and mind.
EXPLOSIVE! MONUMENTAL! INTENSE! RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING! I could go on an on about this phenomenal start to what is sure to be a TOP FAVORITE SERIES this year! There is just so much going on here emotionally, I’m not sure how I got through it without breaking a sweat, but I came close a couple times. Trust me when I say that CD Reiss is an author you NEVER want to pass up. She brings more than a story. She brings a fucking experience of epic proportions! So read CUTTING EDGE and then sink your teeth into ROUGH EDGE and enjoy the EPIC thrill-ride! You might need a reading buddy to talk with afterwards because you are definitely going to need to decompress once you get through this masterpiece!
Just wow! I’m shell-shocked! Rough Edge made me feel so much.
Sadness for what seems to be happening to Caden. And frustration, anger, fear, helplessness, confusion.
As for Greyson, she loves that man with her whole being and this is destroying her. He’s trapped somewhere in his mind. He’s cold and robotic. For as much as she liked what he does to her, she’s afraid. Afraid he can’t stop. Afraid he’ll be lost to her. Afraid for herself.
Gah!! This is heart-wrenching. I started the book this evening and read straight through and finished it in just a few hours. I need the rest of the series!
WOW!!! I knew CD Reiss could do Dark and Twisted but despite reading the synopsis, I never guessed what I signed for!!
I do not know what to say really because I am speechless and I do not want to spoil it for anyone. This first instalment was addictive, disturbing, hot and twisted at the same time. It sucked me on right from the start!
Absolutely fantastic!!
“ The cyclone of desires surrounding us flipped me over again. I was her lover and her tormenter. Her husband and her attacker. Her pain and my pleasure spinning in centrifuge.”
