“Would you be less afraid of hurting me if we tried to focus more on giving you control?”
He looked at my arm, his mouth twisted with consideration, as if he was holding his thoughts back.
“Well?” I asked.
“We could try it. But I’m warning you.” He put an upraised finger between us. “You’d better be controllable, or we’re going back to pain.”
You need to prepare yourselves for this book.
The sex.
The couple.
The mindfuck.
Be ready.
Because I wasn’t.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
What I didn’t realize when I picked up Rough Edge was the total mindfuck I was about to experience.
This couple, this married couple who have spent very little time together outside of a war zone, is not what I expected when I started. CD Reiss has managed to keep me in suspense through the entire book.
Because, really, how can you have this smart, sophisticated man breaking down into something he doesn’t recognize? How can you have this intelligent, strong woman handing herself over to a man she doesn’t recognize?
Is Caden the same man she married? Is he the man she pledged her life to? Or is something changing, shifting within him—within THEM—that can’t be put back together? How far is too far?
What’s a limit if you can’t push it?
Rough Edge is sexy, smart, and unlike anything else I’ve read. CD Reiss may have won me over with Adam Steinbeck (Marriage Games, if you haven’t read it, what the fuck is wrong with you?!), but she’s going to hold me forever with Caden and Greyson.
You’d better be controllable or we’re going back to pain.
Can you ever really control someone? Can you do it without inflicting any pain on their body or their mind? What kind of relationship do you have when you can control that other person? Who is really in
charge?
There’s a name for this.
The book is hot. Know that going in. The book is twisted and a mindfuck. You should know that too. But that ending? That ending is what will leave you with your jaw on the floor. You’ll keep trying to swipe for more pages and there won’t be any. You’ll want the next book before you close out your kindle. And you’ll have to wait.
Wow! This book has left me speechless. My mind has been swirling with possibilities. This is a book that you want to savor, but also can’t read fast enough. I spent my time in the pages enjoying the story, but also trying to figure out where this path is going. It’s the best combination of mystery, romance, and maybe even a little psychological thriller. I always love a good mind f*ck so this is right up my alley! Genius!!! I can’t wait for the next book in the series to release!!!
Reading Rough Edge reminded me of the first time I met C.D. Reiss and fell into the rabbit hole of deep dark lusciousness that was Songs of Submission. I just about recovered from that experience and was able to move on and enjoy everything she has written since. Some lighter reads and some darker ones. Some more romantic than others. Now I find myself making my way back to when I first met her with Caden and Greyson’s story. It’s intense. It’s brutal both mentally and physically. It’s deep, dark and it’s luscious. The relationship between these two is like the blood that runs through their veins. They need it like they need air to breath. The attraction and the love between Greyson and Caden was instant. They were meant to be. Do I know where their story is going? At this point I have to say no. Will there be twists and turns and gasps of ‘what the hell’ coming? That’s one thing we can be sure of. She is back and she’s opened up the rabbit hole. One more thing. She writes like a goddess and had me at ‘purred’ as only she can. Waiting not so patiently for On The Edge #2 of The Edges Series.
“We’re going to build an entire life out of a war.”
Wow! I just finished one of my best reads in 2018. This book was seriously EVERYTHING! I am still speechless and struggling to form a coherent sentence after finishing this book. The Edge series is off to a absolutely EXPLOSIVE start! Rough Edge was intense. Dark. Purely erotic. Mind blowing. I was obsessed. I devoured this book like it was my last breath. That ending will leave you floored, and your mind swirling. It only took a matter of pages and I knew this book was going to be something special. Every page was a perfectly spun web of devotion, limits, and desire. Love, lust, and fear bleed into the essence of war. A ultimate power couple shes a psychiatrist, he’s a surgeon. Caden and Grayson built a relationship in the depths of a cold, bloody war. Once stolen moments, and getaways regulated by enlistment, is now marriage, civilian life, and adjustment. When the dust settles, the fire ignites. How far are you willing to go for love? What if you don’t truly know the man you married?
“The worst decisions I’ve ever made, I made for a reason. You. You rose out of the destruction. Our life together will be built into the best from what survived the worst.”
Caden St John will have you begging for more. Every word he utters is sinfully erotic. He steals your heart with a cool, calculated, grace. While dropping you to your knees with total and utter dominance. He provokes your mind with a precise brutality. While commanding your soul with an overwhelming intensity.
A now ex military major Grayson Frazier is intelligent and commanding in her own sense. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect heroine. Grayson draws you in with her charm, and devotion. Her love for Caden is limitless and knows no bounds. Her vulnerability is raw and completely relatable.
*5 STARS*
Honestly feels like a injustice I would rate this 10 if I could. I guarantee you have never read anything like this before. The author is taking marriage to the next level and I couldn’t be more ready for the ride. *I voluntarily read a advanced copy.”
Five Fantastic riveting stars! This book is original and thought provoking and masterfully written. It is dark and sympathetic all in one. I can not wait to see where this story goes!
My gut reaction in composing a review for Rough Edge… “girl, just read this book if you want a spectacular mindfuck! Also, if you enjoy anxiety attacks. Fair warning…your going to NEED to rub one (or 4) out so don’t read this in public. Or with pants on.” However, since I am a lady(LMAO) and a little more articulate than my base instincts, let me elaborate for you. OG (original gangster) CD Reiss is back with a vengeance. This is the CD I fell in love with with The Submission Series. Sprinkled in with some Marriage Games fun. I seriously could not put this book down. When I was finished, it was all I could think about for days. l ended up re-reading it immediately after I took 2 days to let it sink in. I am so overjoyed to have THIS CD back in the wheelhouse. I am dying for more, I will be patient; but it’s literally eats away at my soul to have to wait.
Wow, this is such an intense story. Two doctors that have met and married in the military are adjusting to civilian life. I could feel the love between Greyson and Caden it was deep and respectful and then it was different. Then it became dark. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and had my heart pounding as I read it and for a long time after. Can’t wait for the next one.
This book; this Edge Series, is a Must Read!
I was pulled in from the very beginning and read it in one night! It ultimately left me on “the edge”! This is a Must Read! Thank you C.D. Reiss for a phenomenal story, I am hooked! CANNOT WAIT FOR BOOK 2 and the Rest of the Series! You are The Queen!
This is my fav CD Reiss..I love all her books but this one is right up there with The submission series and The Corruption series.
I haven’t been thia excited about a story in a while and Holy God did CD ever deliver!
Right from the start I was hypnotized..and the more I read the more I wanted..I couldn’t put it down!
Greyson and Caden, wife and husband, back to cilian life after the military!
Are they the same people they were? Is the marriage solid? Are their jobs interfering?
I have so many questions..
It’s certainly darkish compared to her recent books, it’s edgy, it’s dirty and pushes a lot of boundaries..and there are so many levels and so many things going on..I am dying to read the next book!
It’s also a mind f*ck..there is their connection and this living breathing space/situation going on..I don’t know what to call it without giving anything away..
It’s very very intense and the best kind of addiction!
Want more more more
If this is the new old C.D. Reiss I thought I loved her books before but, now I am in love with her new old self! I loved reading Rough EDGE! I am so happy that you grabbed down deep to bring Rough Edge to life! C.D. Reiss this book is easily my favorite of the books that I have read yours so far. I do love a little dark and a little twisted.
It kept me turning the virtual pages. Okay so Kindles don’t have virtual pages but, I hope you get the meaning that I am trying to convey.
You never knew who you were going to get to come out and play. The “emotionless dominant” or the “decent man”. Rough Edge sucks you in and you will be anything but, emotionless!
I loved this book! I can’t say that enough. There are going to be 4 books in this series. Fortunately, we won’t be waiting long. A book a month isn’t too bad! I can tell you that you will be wanting more once you get to the end!
Rough Edge Book 1
On the Edge Book 2
Broken Edge Book 3
Over the Edge Book 4
5 STARS all the way!!! Loved it and now I can’t wait for Book 2!
What did I just read? A unique story that builds with a twist you don’t see coming…. This story will definitely push your mind and your limits. I love the darker element to this read and can’t wait for book 2.
Holy Crap! I just literally finished reading this book and ran to write my review, but I just don’t know where to start. That is how mind blown I am!!
I’m still trying to get over the way this ended.
CD Reiss just knows how to write a story that keeps you on the edge, keeps your blood pumping so hard, you feel like you are gonna have a heart attack. The twist and turns, the guessing game, the darkness that spills off this pages is so unbelievable and so mind gripping….. I don’t know how else to explain it.
Greyson a psychiatrist, a Major in the US army, has never really picture her self out of the military, is her life. Helping soldiers on the battlefield, assessing PTSD, seeing if they are fit to go back to war is what keeps her happy and motivated. But meeting Caden and having spend time with him thing are staring to look different, feeling are getting involved.
Caden a Captain in the Army, a surgeon that has seen way to much blood, casualties and the pain of war. Helping soldiers live thru it and never once stopping to rest or take care of himself. Great at compartmentalizations and cold when he needs to be.He is now under Greyson’s care, being that he acts like a robot and someone needs to asses him before cutting into someone else. The chemistry between this two is hot, the pull they have between each other is undeniable. Once they let go they understand each other to a T. But what happens when they start the live a life outside the Army, when there is no longer a war between them, or country’s that separate them, But Caden starts to act different and everything seems to become dark and the lines become blurry.
Will the Major and the Captain survive the civilian life, will the war that brews inside Caden destroy them both. Will the person between them win?
CD Reiss has written a book with so much twists that it will keep you guessing till the end. This series is gonna be one for the books, Rough Edge was exhilarating and I just can’t wait to see what is next. Because that ending was just…. wow! Until it continues again.
6 starts read!!
*i read an ARC and this is my honest opinion
OK, what did I just read? My mind is blown; what kind of sorcery is this book? Honestly, I am still picking up the pieces of my emotions. It’s deliciously dark; I couldn’t stop reading.
It started off a bit slow for me then worked itself into a mind twist, chapter after chapter. Romance books usually end with a HEA or marriage but what happens after? Is everything hunky dory? Do they have a few kids and/or pets? The prequel, Cutting Edge, is a good novella that takes you up to the marriage. You don’t have to read that before starting Rough Edge but it does give some good background info on Greyson and Caden.
Caden is such a complex character; he really needed someone like Greyson to understand and want to be with him. I love their connection and subtle communication.
If you think you have a flexible boundary when it comes to dark romance, Rough Edge will redefine it many times over.
Superb writing. Thrilling dynamic. Tension that will both sear with its heat and chill you to the bone. Rough Edge has blown me away, and I don’t know how I’ll recover. The next book cannot come soon enough. Six extraordinary stars.
Caden and Greyson met in the service. They married in a quick service during one of Greyson’s leaves. When her time is up she doesn’t re-enlist. They have to adjust to married life and life away from the service.
Super hot romance with themes of BDSM. Great start to the series. Very intense story. Amazing depth to the characters.
The story between Caden and Greyson is on a different level than anything I’ve read before. I was hooked from the first page, and now I’m left on the edge myself until book two. Christine has always written in a way that put her in another category than anyone/everyone else, but this just took her over the top. I hope everyone else reads and appreciates this as much as I did.
A brave endeavour by Reiss to delve into the psychological trauma of soldiers. Christine takes us behind the curtains of war into the realms of PTSD. It’s not pretty at all. It’s downright sinister and malignant.
Drs. Grayson Frazier and Caden St.John are army doctors. He’s a heart surgeon while she’s a psychiatrist. They both finish their service and settle in Manhattan. Enviabley sexy, handsome couple, so deeply in love, considerate of each other’s feelings, life should be smoothly successful and abundant for them.
“You know what I see when I look at you?”
“Your wife?”
“The worst decisions I’ve ever made, I made for a reason.
You. You rose out of the destruction.
Our life together will be built into the best from what survived the worst.”
Alas, the dark memories of war somehow tentacle their way round their everyday peaceful existence and they start to grow into an entity that settles itself in the midst of their coupling like a third THING. It has it’s own hunger, own agenda and own triggers. It grows and howls, remains in the periphery and sometimes jumps in their bodies to create havoc.
Every day, it got a little stronger. Every day I was a little more tense, a little more afraid , a little more uncomfortable. The Thing got harder to box away and cart off. Harder to hide behind a wall. Impossible to ignore . I was pressed in on all sides by a Thing I couldn’t even define.
I don’t wanna give anything away, since the essence of psychological thriller is in the mystery.
Christine is exploring very unpropitious territory. There are no set rules and limits, symptoms and cures(if there are any) are on case to case basis. The dark presence in this book, is very edgy, violent and though not malefic yet, is inauspicious for their marriage.
Every thought walked a razor’s edge between sanity and insanity, and the edge kept moving until I didn’t know which side was which.
How will it pan out and how will the “exorcism”, for want of better word, take place, will keep me on tenterhooks. Cannot wait for book 2.
Just my own experience, maybe it’s the first of 4 books, or the topic is very new and unrelatable to me, I felt a disconnect.
A remarkable start to a undoubtedly very tense story. Dealing with veritable disorder, very significant and very current, sometimes object of prejudice or ridicule, in some inappropriate hands, but I’m sure I’ll emerge as a better informed reader and more knowledgeable about the dangerous traumas that are byproducts of uneccessary wars.
The blurb for this book immediately pulls you in! It’s a very accurate synopsis of what lies between the pages of book 1 in The Edge series, where we truly see CD Reiss “going back to her roots”. She has found a way to blow me away that doesn’t transpire too often anymore. I was captivated from the blurb! Diving into this story of Greyson and Caden, I only found that as their story unfolded, Christine has in a very profound way, pulled a story out of a very broken soul and turned it into a page turner! I devoured this book in under a day. It was one of the first books in a very long time to leave my head spinning and yet leave me yearning for more.
The story itself is of Caden and Greyson. Both recently out of the service, and adjusting to the Civilian life. Their marriage is so fresh they haven’t even lived together before Greyson ends her time in the Army and returns to be with her new husband in NYC.
As their story unfolds, you see a very dark and very fascinating journey these two must go on to overcome the demons that lie beneath the surface. Their chemistry and passion is so ferocious, I truly cannot wait to see what else CD Reiss has for us in this series.
And that is all I can say about this book without jeopardizing plot lines! If you are looking for a read very different from anything you have most likely picked up before, this is where I say you start!
Umm, uh, WOW! I don’t even have words for what I just experienced reading this! It’s so dark, twisted and erotic but also sad and disturbing while keeping you on the edge! That ending left my mind blown and my brain all mixed up! CD Reiss is on fire and toying with us hardcore! Awesome job!
I’m not sure I can accurately put into words how excited I was for this book. My anticipation for this dark BDSM series that reminded me of the Marriage Games Duet (which are my favorite Reiss reads to date) had me practically salivating. The book most certainly did not disappoint, in fact, it was even more than I hoped for.
Caden and Greyson met and married while serving in the army. They both have accomplished military careers and now that Greyson is retiring after 14 years of service, they are finally ready to look at a life the two of them can build and nurture outside of the military. As they begin to explore married life, their sex life takes a turn Greyson may not have initially anticipated. Caden begins to take her down a path of BDSM exploration. Pain, breath play, complete and utter obedience – Caden and Greyson push each other and their boundaries as far as they can go and then take it just that little bit further and let me tell you, those scenes are scorching in their intensity and level of hotness. I’m barely scratching the surface of what you’ll find in book one, but you really need to experience it for yourself. Told in dual point of views at different points in time, you’ll be skirting the rough and intense edge that Caden and Greyson find themselves traveling and it will be both intense and complicated.
If you love darker reads, if you love BDSM, if you love complicated and compelling relationship, and/or are already a CD Reiss fan, you will want to pick this up immediately. Preferably when you have no outstanding commitments because you will be hard pressed to put this book down.
