This book blew my mind! This is why I read romance. This book is complicated, emotional, raw, and brilliant. It’s the do not miss series of the year. CD Mother F*ing Reiss is back!
This series grips you by the throat and refuses to let go—and you’ll be begging for more the entire time…
No one does twisty, complex, and raw emotions like CD Reiss!! This story is powerful!
Twisted and sexy, this story grabbed me from the VERY FIRST WORD and never let me go. 6 STARS!
Holy cow! Rough Edge is a crazy ride guaranteed to leave you panting, breathless, and begging for more.
Listen. This book will tear you apart, and just when you think it’s putting you back together, you’ll discover you had more pieces you didn’t know about for it to slice through. It’s raw. It’s intense. It made me breathe hard on every turn of the page.
There’s a part where Caden presses four fingers flat against his own mouth and I JUST DIED. Dead. I am still dead.
Wonderful, hauntingly amazing job, CD Reiss.
Gimme more, please.
“You and me. We’re a miracle.”- Caden
To our everlasting delight, C.D. Reiss has penned the most inventive erotic epic with soul-stirring artistry of language and mind-boggling intrigue. This book will set mind body and soul on fire.
Two battle-tested US Army physicians discovered their love amidst the horror and trauma of a bloody protracted war. Greyson, the major and psychiatrist, who found her home in the Army was planning on being a “lifer”. Her plans changed when her captain husband, Caden, convinced her to leave the Army and set up private practice in New York where he’s from and where he has a lucrative practice as a cardiac surgeon. We meet them as Greyson sets foot on American soil again for the first time since her deployment to Iraq.
In an intimate telling of the story with narrative first person dual POVs, we watch the couple who is madly and hopelessly in love undergo a fundamental change where control, pleasure and pain commingle in their explosive couplings. OMG!!! Seriously sexy and dark…you really must try not to lose consciousness. Le swoon!!! Caden could not be written any more the intelligently irresistible, deliciously dirty-talking, Alpha male. He has skilled hands (Eeep!) which bring the beautiful and dedicated Greyson untold pleasure and pain to her delight.
Fundamentally though, something isn’t quite right. In a creative and lyrical style, the author teases us with possibilities and hints for things in Greyson and Caden’s relationship being on the edge…an edge that is coming closer, harder, faster…and rougher than any surface than has been subjected to an irregular grindstone.
As almost subtext to this intensely erotic read is a commentary about “the dogs of war” and the machinery that employs them. There’s even a plan to make the “dogs” more invulnerable…more calculating and as such more methodically vicious.
I found my mind venturing down shadowy and dark alleys of thought and ideas. In this darkness there is one thing on which I will place my bets. Whatever the obstacles…even as they discover they enjoy their sex taken to the edge, Greyson and Caden love each other beyond any challenge before them or perhaps conspiracy against them. They are after all, in Caden’s words, “a miracle”.
“Caden and I were an incurable condition.” – Greyson
“I wanted to explain how magnificent we’re going to be.” – Caden
I didn’t think there was any version of dark and twisty that I hadn’t read yet, but this book is it! Totally unique and cool.
My reward for finishing my writing…!
Lilting, lyrical prose? Check!
Fragile, chipped/broken characters? Check!
Shockingly hot intimacy? Check!
C.D. Reiss’ ground breaking new series begins with Rough Edge. In her latest book, Ms. Reiss explores marital relationships and devotion and how they are impacted by trauma, abuse, and mental health. Only a talented storyteller like Ms. Reiss could also add in a bit of suspense and mystery to the mix.
Ms. Reiss’ writing is emotive. Her characters are sympathetic, and their story is compelling. Two doctors who have been through the Hell of active duty are now married and civilian. They are looking forward to meaningful practices and a quiet life together. However, there are dark, disturbed forces tracking them like hungry wolves.
Rough Edge is the spellbinding beginning to the four-part story of Drs. Greyson Frazier and Caden St. John. Every page of this book is intense, and the boundary blurs considerably as Ms. Reiss takes her readers to the edge of all that they believe.
To quote a favorite line-Jesus Christmas on a ladder!
I have no words, NO WORDS, to describe how I feel after finishing this book. CD Reiss’ intelligent, diabolical mind has ripped mine to shreds. Sounds too dramatic? It’s not, but you need to find out for yourself…
I am in awe of how graphic and twisty this story is…so many moments that had me gasping and squirming.
The interaction between Caden and Greyson is intense from the start. Their strong personalities and drive level the playing field in their marriage, but everything isn’t always as it seems. These are two very complex characters with layers and secrets that I didn’t expect. Woven into their incredibly erotic story are raw, emotional scenes that had my heart breaking.
This is a must read for CD Reiss fans, and readers who love to venture into the edgy darkness. Get ready to be wowed page after page.
Now, I need to prepare myself for the next book from The Edge!
C.D. Reiss has really outdone herself with this book. With this series, really, if this first book is any indication. Greyson and Caden meet while stationed together in Iraq, him a surgeon and her a Psychiatrist. Their connection is intense, more than just sexual, and they fall in love and get married. Caden’s time in the Army is up so he returns home to New York to be a heart surgeon, and when Greyson’s tour is up, she follows him and opens her own practice.
I feel like whatever I say about this story is going to give too much away, and I can’t think of just one or two things to talk about because Christine has layered so much into this, that it is all overlapping and interwoven and deep, so, so deep. The only thing I will say is that something happens to Caden, and he starts to change, away from the man who couldn’t keep his hands (and all of his other parts) off Greyson to someone cold and distant and just…not her husband.
As the story progresses, Greyson has a few revelations about herself that she initially doesn’t want to admit, all while she is trying to figure out what is going on with Caden. The sex is over the top, hot and passionate and deviant as well? That’s all I’m saying about that.
We get dual points of view, as well as some flashback chapters, that give us some more insight as to what has brought this couple to the point they are at right now. I spent a lot of time not understanding what the hell was happening, but that is not a negative thing. It just means that Christine snagged me hook, line and sinker and I couldn’t put the book down, trying to figure out why Caden was acting the way he was and marveling at how Greyson was trying to help him, struggling between that fine line of being a Psychiatrist but more so his wife.
When I finished reading my first thought was, “that was one fucked up mind trip!” and I’m sure a lot of readers are going to comment that this book really stretches your mind and thought processes about human behaviors. The ending left me dying for book 2, like right now!! Holy shit, my heart is still beating fast, reading those last lines.
It’s taken me a couple of days to put my thoughts together on this one, and honestly, I’m still not sure I’ll even sound coherent.
This story is a multi-layered, emotionally twisted up mindf*ck…yep, that’s it. It’s one of those reads where you close the cover and stare off into space hoping that the answers will somehow materialize and make it all right. I did this, and then for days now I’ve tried to come up with some conclusion, some reason, some epiphany that could explain the closing sentence. And then you know what, I realized, I didn’t want to…I’m handing myself over to this author and allowing her to take me on this journey.
The characters are so believable and they give whole new meaning to “in sickness and in health”
If you’re looking for something fresh and original, I can’t recommend Rough Edge strongly enough.
Book 1…yes there is a cliffhanger.
This is CD Reiss’s at her erotica best, add some darker elements and you’re in for the read of your lifetime.
I am not going to give you much about book #1, yes I said book #1. Before you get your panties in a twist, if you have been living under a rock, this is a 4 book series. Each book will release three weeks apart. I don’t want to read or hear any grumblings about cliffhangers. You’ve been warned and you all should be happy we’re not waiting three months per book. Okay I feel so much better getting that out of my system.
Here’s what I will say, you will meet Dr. Greyson Fraizer (she’s a major in the Army) and Captain Caden St. John. Yes, I’m honestly doing a happy dance that she outranks her man. She’s a shrink, he’s a heart surgeon. They meet during the war in Iraq. Caden has been been back in NYC starting up his fellowship, after being honorably discharged, and Greyson is finally finishing her final tour and coming home to her man. Now to see if she can deal in being back to the civilian world.
So I am going to stop here. If you are fan of C.D. Reiss, hopefully you have read the Songs of Submission Series or even her Games duet. Hmmm how can I put this mildly … you are all going to lose your mind with Rough Edge. It’s SoS and Games duet on steroids, in the best possible way. It’s definitely a lot more edgier and darker than the two series I mention above.
This is CD Reiss at her very best and she will not disappoint!
THIS. WAS. AMAZING!
I can’t stop thinking about Caden and Greyson!
Honestly, I’m not even sure where to begin. My thoughts and feelings are all over the place with this erotic tale of two strong willed people coming together under the most stressful of circumstances. Rough Edge went above and beyond everything I thought it would be. Yes, I knew it would it would be sexy, dark and intense. I knew it would mess with my head and my heart. What I didn’t know was that Caden and Greyson would CONSUME me.
These two just click. They know it from the start, they feel it in their bones and acting on their instincts to be together is the only logical choice for them. Greyson is strong and independent. I admire her sense of self and need to be supportive and giving even in the darkest of times. Caden is smart, oh so sexy and royally messed up. Little does he know that leaving the military will be more difficult than he ever imagined. The love and devotion Caden and Greyson have for one another and their relationship is larger than life. The question is, will this all-consuming love be enough to get them through what will be the hardest battle of their lives?!?
Caden and Greyson own me and having to wait for remaining books is slow torture. Even so, I have no doubt that CD Reiss will make it worth the wait. Yes, this is a series, but luckily, she is not going to make us twiddle our thumbs for months and months in anticipation of what I’m sure will be an epic conclusion. If you are looking for a story that will grab your attention from Page 1 and keep you guessing, swooning, excited and bewildered you need to #OncClick now!
Greyson and Caden truly love each other. Their sexual encounters are passionate and HOT and I really enjoyed them. The engagements are revealed to us from each characters point of view, and I developed my own analysis on how this story should conclude. For me, the disappointing part is that this book ended on a cliffhanger. When I became interested and involved in this intriguing story, not having a conclusion was quite disappointing.
This was the first book by CD Reiss that I have read. He writing was great and I will definitely read more of her work.
Admitting there is a problem. Identify the problem. Find solutions to the problem. This is how most surgeons and psychiatrists go at a problem, an illness, and injury. Caden and Greyson are no different in their respective professions. But in private, in their home, in their marriage things are not so simple. The massiveness of their problem is not easily contained in a textbook or a petri dish. It is huge. It is fierce. And it is out of the realm of normality. That is until it is faced and dealt a violent blow. Then they are normal again…until they aren’t.
This story is not sweetness and light. It is not a fantasy romance. What it is is hard, violent, thought-provoking and will make you wonder about the sanity of the author and you as a reader. You will understand more if you read the Prequal; Cutting Edge. There you meet Caden, Greyson, and Ronin for the first time and will understand the dynamics of the relationships. Here you are taken to the after and will see a beautiful relationship that is also fierce, loving and strong. Wills are tested. Courage is tested. And the marriage ties are pulled so tight they could choke. I am so invested in this couple, their turmoil and in finding the answers they seek that I am preordering all of the rest of this series.
I hope my review did not turn you off because it is a fabulous thrilling and intensely great read. 🙂
This story is unlike anything else I’ve read before. Maybe there is a story like this out there. Maybe one that people love and have raved about. Maybe I’ll even come across it one day. But what I do know is that this book will always take precedent. It will always be my first and it will always remind me of why I’m in love with the writing of CD Reiss. And why I am so absolutely in love with the characters she has created for this series, Caden and Greyson.
So. Freaking. Hot!!
Caden and Greyson were both doctors. He was a heart surgeon and she was a psychiatrist. They served in the war, met in the war, fell in love during the war, and came home. They came home to start their new lives, more in love than ever.
We were so deep inside each other, there was no such thing as a public place.
But this couple didn’t come home alone. And witnessing their individual struggles to understand what was happening was heartbreaking. Caden himself made me want to give him huge hugs and I wanted to rally behind Greyson for her endless support. They say that what doesn’t break you makes you stronger and I hope and pray this holds true for them. However, as much as I’m wishing for Caden to figure things out, I’m loving his dominance.
Inside the sound of my wife’s sobs, where wet hitch met breathy exhale, where true guilt met broken sorrow, the Thing spoke.
That ending though? I’m both devastated and excited for the next book, On The Edge. I need to know what happens next and I’ll be on EDGE until its release.
SWEET BABY JESUS. I can’t wait for you to be as stunned and breathless as I am right now about this epic, brilliant bit of mind f******. If you’re lucky, you occasionally pick up a book and it only takes you a few pages to know that the story is going to be something special.
Rock your world special.
That happened to me today. Rough Edge is weapons grade CD Reiss, and her finest work to date. It’s dark. So, so dark. Brutal and tender. Love and Lust and Longing distilled to its essence in the crucible of war. You’ve never met a couple like Caden and Greyson, and their provocative story of wartime courtship and peacetime marriage is a sexy, scary reflection on devotion, limits and self.
If the thought of Jonathan Drazen or Adam Steinbeck made you flushed and anxious and needy, be ready to kneel for the sexiest beast in town, Caden St. John. He IS the siren’s song – tempting you to throw yourself on the brutality of his cool, calculated passion. The Edge is going to take married romance to the abyss and soar over it. I guarantee you haven’t read anything like this before.

I’ve learned to expect the unexpected when it comes to CD Reiss’ darker reads; I almost always go in blind, dispelling any and all theories right out of the gate, allowing Reiss to take me where she wants me to go, knowing that the journey is not straightforward and that it will push my boundaries when it comes to separating the world and characters she’s created from the conscious world outside.
But, I have to admit, even with a solid game plan like the one I initiated before I read page 1, I was not at all prepared for where Reiss took her characters and consequently took her readers in Rough Edge, and that’s because the dark erotic vibe that I’ve come to love when it comes to Reiss’ layered story lines is beyond anything I’ve seen, which means that for a lot of it, I was lost in the complications of the plot and confounded by the actions and reactions of two people who love each other with an emotion that is both obsessive and essential at the same time.
I don’t want to give any of the plot away because to truly appreciate how masterfully Reiss crafts readers’ introduction and initial interaction into this married couple and all that they must endure now that they are both no longer in the Armed Forces, it must be experienced without preconceived notions because once readers have been immersed in all the kinky fuckery that abounds in the story as well as the healthy doses of dark and twisty encounters, they’ll find they can’t let go of this addictive read even after the last page of the book is read.
Absolutely Mindfucked…that’s the only way I can describe how I felt after reading the beginning of Greyson and Caden’s story, and it’s not just from the boundaries that Caden pushes when it comes to his physical relationship with his wife; it’s also
the fact that it was extremely difficult to wrap my brain around the two sides of Caden’s personality that seem to co-exist – one dominating the other, at times, but neither ever fully gain control, which means that the man behind the monster and the monster behind the man are both actively responsible for the crazy ride Greyson and Caden experience.
I also have to say that as much as I attempted to delve further into both Greyson and Caden’s psyches to truly understand their perspectives and the reasons behind their words and actions, I could never quite grasp them, and while that’s frustrating for me as a reader who needs to understand the inner workings of the plot and its characters, the analytical literary nerd in me loves that I’m only getting small fragments of the characters’ reality, which means that as the series continues, those pieces will begin to create the big picture, which scares the hell out of me, but it also leaves me anxiously waiting to see all of their craziness out in the open.
