All Sage Adams wants is for her parents take notice of her accomplishments. But when someone tries to kidnap Sage, she is forced to accept the ugly truth that her parents are criminals and it’s now up to her to bring justice for all those innocent lives her parents have injured. However, she can’t do it alone. Reluctantly, she teams up with Porter Clayton, a bodyguard from the Brotherhood … Protectors.
Porter Clayton, better known as just Clayton, has never been ashamed of being the son of a whore. He’s spent the last ten years of his life making sure his mother’s work with helping prostitutes and their families make better life choices continues to grow. That had been the catalyst for him hiring Sage to plan a charity event. But when Sage ends up in the backseat of a hitman’s car, Clayton will do whatever it takes to protect her.
Sage and Clayton must gather enough evidence to put her parents in prison before Clayton is framed for a murder he didn’t commit and Sage ends up dead. Working together, they come to terms with their past, their parents, and in the process they find the kind of love they hadn’t even dared to dream could exist.

Worlds apart, yet a lot in common, these two characters work together towards a mutual goal and find more than they ever dreamed imaginable. Sometimes dreams you did not know you had can come true and from bad circumstances a strong bond of trust and love can catch you by surprise. This story was great and these characters were perfect for each other. Both had to face hard facts about themselves and their parents in order to save Sage’s life and to have any hope for a future together. The storyline was well-written, the characters were engaging and there was plenty of suspense, action, and romance to hold your interest. There were also plenty of intense twists and turns to keep you on your toes. Sage and Clayton made a wonderful couple and it was nice to see some of the other guys from the BP world lending a hand. Rough Edge is Talty’s 4th book in her Out of the Wild series and crosses over into Elle James’ Brotherhood Protectors series. You do not have to read the other books in the series in order to enjoy Sage and Clayton’s story but they are all just as good so you should give them a try.
*I received an advanced copy from the author and I am voluntarily providing my honest review. Thank you, Ms. Talty, for another wonderful, fun read!
Love and support
Sage knows her parents are not like other parents, her mother is cold and emotionless, her father shows love with money but she didn’t think they were bad people…how wrong can she be?
When her world implodes the one person who is there for her is the last person she expects and he is the biggest surprise of all. Has she misjudged him?
Both Sage and Clayton had difficult childhoods, so seeing them open up, discover and grow together is beautiful. For me this is the best of the series so far, I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
This is book 4 in the Out of the Wild series (but set in the Brotherhood Protectors series) and can absolutely be read as a stand alone. This one is about Porter Clayton and Sage Adams. Clayton was raised as the son of a whore in Las Vegas. Not only does he work with the Brotherhood Protectors but he also works with the foundation his mother started to help prostitutes move beyond the life and what it does to their families. Sage was hired to plan a huge charity event in order to get more funds for the foundation. What neither expects is that night to push their own belief’s to the side and show what they have been blinded to in their own lives.
I absolutely loved this story! Porter may think that he has moved beyond what his mother was but in all reality he hasn’t. Nor has he moved past who his father is or what he has done. But all that doesn’t stop him from trying to do his best to protect people that truly need it. Even when he thinks the worst of himself. Sage has so many issues with her parents that it is heartbreaking. And just seem’s to get worse the longer the book goes on. But in the midst of finding out who they truly are, she manages to find herself and her own self worth. Which I absolutely loved! Together they are truly perfect for each other, and I loved how this whole story evolved from start to finish.
Rough Edge (Brotherhood Protectors)
Out of the Wild Book 4

Fast paced suspenseful story
pairing an interesting couple in Sage and Clayton. Can Sage survive finding out her parents are crooks? Can Clayton protect her from them? Will Sage get over her issues with Clayton so he can protect her?
A story that hooks you from the fast pace beginning until the end. Another late night read for sure.
Another great addition to Ms. Talty’s series, Out of the Wild. When Sage Adams is almost abducted exiting a night club, she has no idea why she would be anyone’s target. Although her parents have never approved of her choice of careers, she owns her own foundation raising money for various charities. Porter Clayton, aka just “Clayton”, working for the Brotherhood Protectors, witnesses Sage’s abduction and races off to the rescue. He contacts his teammates at the Brotherhood to begin investigating why someone would attempt to kidnap Sage. He is amazed at the information they will learn about the kidnapper as well as Sage’s parents and the possible involvement of his own background. He is assigned to be her bodyguard (which she is not happy about), but wonders if the threat might also be aimed at him. I love it when past characters make a brief appearance…it is like catching up with old friends. When they finally take a chance on ending the threats, will they also take a chance on love? An emotional and fast action read they keeps you “turning the pages” until the explosive end. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. (by paytonpuppy)
Sage and Clayton were both great characters with good chemistry. Both come from different backgrounds with childhoods that were not the best. Lots of steam and plenty of action with some twists. Sage was a strong character and had to deal with a lot. Great story and addition to the Brotherhood Protectors. HEA. Loved it!
These two have so much in common but so many differences Both just want to be loved both have walls around their hearts It will take danger and suspense for them to work together and in the process they will learn to love.
Sage is the only daughter of a businessman and his attorney wife all she wants is for them to love her and commend her on her fund raising work but they never do. Clayton is the son of a whore his mother may have set up a charity to help whores but until her dying day she still did tricks. When Sage works on a fund raiser for Alley Home she has no idea that the son of the woman who set it up will become so important to her. They may have struck sparks off one another to start with but when her life is put in danger Clayton steps up to protect her and has she realises that her parents have a lot o do with the danger that she is facing he will be the one she comes to rely on. Clayton had no idea that the young woman fund raising for his mothers charity would be the one to break down his walls and make him dream of house and picket fences rather than the trailer that he can move at a moments notice. A great read that was a pleasure I always love the brotherhood men alpha males with hearts of gold and the woman who tame them
This was a pretty good book. Would have loved more action, but overall not bad. Sage is pretty much left to her own devices, rich parents who couldn’t care less what she did. Clayton’s mom was a prostitute, but she loved him and did the best she could, at least that’s more than Sage’s parents did. So someone is out to kill Sage and Clayton is there to protect her. There are a lot of different moving parts going on in this book. But there was one unleft question towards the end of this book. I won’t say what so as not to leave any spoilers.
It’s awesome when your favorite authors write in a world like Brotherhood Protectors because you get both worlds in one! In Rough Edge, Jen Talty takes the reader to the less savory side of life, and, as always, she does this well. Clayton is a Brotherhood Protector who has been involved in a fundraising effort with Sage and is then hired to protect her after a failed kidnapping. There are plot twists, evil characters, and, of course, heat between the two main characters – a great addition to the world and for Jen Talty’s fans.
I read an advance copy of this novel.
