First book I have read from this writer. Holy cow was this book interesting . Intense gripping mind blowing suspense twists and turns. I absolutely loved Evie and Luc. There chemistry was off the wall hot. Evie was one amazing character so strong through everything she had to deal with. Realizing that she doesn’t need to run that there are people who will protect her. The love her past is heart breaking and something I am so glad she got away from. This book was amazing so glad I decided to read it.
I really loved this story! Evie is hiding and has been for quite a while. Luc has seen her and he knows he wants her, he just hasn’t been able to have her and no he’s set on getting her. We are taken on a journey that starts with just enough suspense to get us hooked, and are quickly pulled into the twisted world of Evie’s past. We learn that Evie and Luc are actually really sweet and cute together once we get into the story. Evie and Luc have amazing chemistry that flies off the pages and I couldn’t put it down! I can’t wait to see what comes next!!
This is the second book in this series, and is Evie and Luc’s story. It is heartbreaking to read about what Evie had to endure and survive, and sexy Luc can see beyond the walls which she is built. No spoilers; this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed! This is a good story which is raw, gritty, intense, and with suspense, secrets, which all lead to a sweet and steamy read. I look forward to reading more from this author, and recommend this story.
Evie has had a tough life and is on the run. She is a hacker and takes nothing from anyone. Lucien has a great family and life. He finds Evie attractive and wants to help her. He knows she’s hiding a secret. Will the two be able to come to terms and find love? This story was a knock your socks off thrill ride to the last page.
This book had a storyline that drug you in from word one. The male character is hot. The female character is harboring secrets and it blows the story out of the water. The author does an amazing job of developing the characters and setting. An amazing story by this author. Read to find out the details!
Rough Code by Kim Congram is book Two in the Rough Edges Series. This is the story of Lucien Falco and Evie Franklin. I haven’t yet read the previous book, so for me this was a standalone book.
Evie has had to live on the run never stopping. Lucky she is smart and knows computers as it has helped her maintain her life. Lucie too is smart with computers and he knows that something is up with Evie and he wants to help her move forward with her life.
This was a slow burn but never the less a good burn…enjoyed their story.
An excellent read. I need to go back and read the first book.
I went into this book completely blind. It is only when I pulled up the book to review, that I saw the cover. I expected the cover to be something other than abs. The story was very computer code oriented so I thought it would be more number-y. Haha
This book is fast paced, has lots of moving parts and terrific character development. I would consider it a
slow burn romance. There is a lot of technology threaded in and out of the story and at times I thought about “unplugging ” my house and going of the grid, but then I couldn’t charge my kindle or read books at night.
I think this book was very well written and while it was technically written, I felt as if it never had to be “dumbed down”.
It is great to see such a strong female character involved in STEM.
I recomend this book and this author.
I’ve never read this author before, and I was impressed by this second installment in the Rough Edges series.
I found myself liking Evie Franklin from the start. She’s a high level computer hacker who’s bright and kind though a bit mysterious. She’s conscious of her surroundings, knows she’s never safe, and makes sure she has an exit strategy no matter her position. She’s been abused in her past, and there’s something she escaped that she fears is still after her. So, even though she’s made friends, she knows she’ll have to leave soon if she’s going to survive and if she’s going to keep her friends safe.
Lucien Falco is deeply invested in the security company and knows he has more than a computer whiz working for him in Evie. He’s a product of the war in Afghanistan, and his comradery with his fellow partners in the security firm. But, he’s got a soft side, knows what the war left to him, and want to overcome the pain and sorrow he experienced. Evie is a vulnerable woman who he can’t seem to get off of his mind. He knows she’s got a backstory though there’s no trace of that in her records. As he tries to help her, tries to keep her from running again, he begins to fall for the charm and beauty of this enigma that is Evie Franklin.
When her past finally crashes in, Evie has a choice. She could run, thus saving everyone around her and hopefully finding a place in the world where she can feel relatively safe again. Or she could face the demon that is her past, the one that almost destroyed her and seeks to destroy her all the same. And this time, she has friends and a special man to have her back. Will it be enough?
I loved the suspense of the story, and the glimpses of Evie’s past helps to fuel that suspense. The story kept me on the edge of my seat, and that’s important with romantic suspense. The love story that developed was sweet and romantic, and I enjoyed watching it develop. The interaction of the hero and heroine was sometimes adorable and yet tense, and I love how the author didn’t give them an insta-love feel as we watched them gradually come to that conclusion. I think there were some moments that I wasn’t prepared for, and that is simply missing background for the heroine. She seemed to be able to take a serious beating without caving, and she apparently had some self-defense background that I was missing. Perhaps it was something that was spelled out in the previous novel, but I think it could have been expounded upon a little in this one since it was hers. But, overall, I enjoyed the story. It kept twisting in directions that made it unpredictable, and there’s nothing I love more than a strong heroine. I definitely plan to read more of this author’s works in the future.
This was an enjoyable psychological thriller. On the surface Evie seems to have it all; a good job, friends and a longing for her boss, Luc. One event sets off old ingrained reactions of flight, but Evie now had people to fight with her and for her. That same one event, pushed Luc to declare his feelings but that bond would be tested when Evie’s past affected her present.
Prepare yourself to feel many emotions because this story has so many moments. From swooning, laughter, tears, despair and love.
Rough Code was crazy. It was my first title from Kim Congram and what a ride. There was a lot going on and I was never quite sure which way was up but for some reason I didn’t want to put it down.
I liked Evie. A whole lot. She was brave and so smart and so lonely. She had her reasons for living life the way she was. And when I learned just what she had endured and survived, it made me root for her all the more. No matter how much she wanted to let her guard down and build friendships, a family, she knew she couldn’t. Because the moment she let her walls down, everything was going to change- and not for the better. And, sadly, she was right.
I loved the way Luc took his time with Evie, made her comfortable enough to open herself up to him. But Luc and the whole team at Elliott Securities wasn’t having Evie trying to push them away for their own sake. She was part of their family and they weren’t going down without a fight. And it was Luc leading the charge to keep the woman he loved safe.
Overall, I found Rough Code enjoyable. The writing was straightforward and easy to follow. For as much as I liked Evie and Luc, I wanted to feel a bit more of their connection. This slow-burning suspense kept me invested in the outcome. The final showdown was intense and had my heart racing. And as much as Luc and the team were a part of take down of the tangled web, it was Evie who saved herself (super yay).
Going into this story I wasn’t sure how it would resonate. I have about zero geek in me (boo hoo). I am the gal still trying to figure out social media (haha). Ugh that doesn’t matter with this story. Evie’s geek-ship is flying high in this book. She is brilliant and beautiful.
It has a slow build to it with a lovely Australian flavor. Eek. I love it. Definitely on my bucket list of places to visit. Wink.
Luc and Evie are AWESOME. Both are wonderful characters with interesting backstories. As the story progresses they both heat up the page together (fanning myself). Evie is the shining star. Holy heck she is amazing and when you learn where she came from, well, just color me impressed.
Luc and his military background make him the right guy in helping Evie deal with “All Kinds of Cray-Cray”. The security team they all work with makes this an even better story. When they discussed family I might have teared up a bit. Don’t judge me (hee hee). The later part of this book ups the angst. OMG my stomach was in knots and I was on the edge of my seat. SO GOOD.
Happy Reading Everyone! XOXO
