If you enjoyed, the PBS series, “Poldark,” the 12 books in the Poldark series by British author, Winston Graham, are not to be missed. The first three follow The series very closely. Graham’s prose is stunning in the ways he describes the characters, their motivations, actions and reactions. Adding to the enjoyment of the books is the background …
I’m roughly 80% through with Winston Graham’s first novel in the Poldark series and what can I say – I love it. I was first drawn to reading these books after watching the BBC adaptation.
Winston Graham immediately draws you in with the way he describes the Cornish countryside and coast. His characters are interesting, and each chapter leaves …
Problem solving according to Ross Poldark:
Step One: Drink Brandy
Step Two: Repeat step one
I loved the tv show so I decided to read the books and I’m glad I did. The books are easy to read. In the world of Poldark, the characters come to life even more in the books. The gaps from the show are filled and more emotions are stirred in these pages. I highly recommend to fans of the tv show or historical fiction lovers alike.
What can I say, I got hooked on this series from watching the PBS series. I’ve read all 12 books in the Poldark series and loved every single one. It was like gathering with old friends on a lazy Saturday afternoon. I couldn’t wait to follow the characters over time.
I liked Ross Poldark. There were several times the book went into too much detail and I was lost from the story. However, I soon found myself back into the story. I liked the Masterpiece series Poldark and was excited to compare the books. The series actually followed the books nicely. I like getting more details on feeling and emotions from …
Winston Graham writes a vivid story with multi-dimensional characters in a real-world setting. I especially like how he matched the dialogue to each character so I really connected to them. I can see why his work was picked up by a television producer.
Read the whole series! I normally prefer horror novels but I got sucked into this world and family. In 1 summer I read through the entire series and found myself invested and caring for each character.
I love ALL of the Poldark books. The stories and the writing gets better and better the more you read. Also, Demelza, in my opinion, is the best female literary character ever created.
Written long ago but such an enjoyable series.
Very entertaining historical fiction.
A classic. The whole Poldark series is worth reading for its wonderful characters, the description of Cornwall in the 18th century, the story.
Oh my, I am in love.
Even though I have read the last 5 books in the Poldark series, and have watched every episode of the new Poldark series on Masterpiece and know the story line, I have had the first 7 books on my bookshelf for a few years. I decided to plunge in now.
This book is amazing. The slow, all-encompassing pacing, the …
Loved it! Such a great way to finish off watching the Masterpiece Theater series. There are differences between the two, most notably, there are many more characters in the book version. And – of course – no matter how Winston Graham described Ross, he’ll forever look like Aiden Turner to me. Ditto for Demelza and Eleanor Tomlinson. On to book two!
There’s a reason that Masterpiece Theater has made TWO different adaptations of this, decades apart.
I read this book years ago, long before it appeared on TV. I was hooked and so thrilled that Winston Graham went on to write 12 books in total. I don’t have a single hero in my Belleville trilogy but the seeds of the idea came from the Poldark series.
Absolutely wonderful ! If you like the PBS series you’ll love this. I’m currently reading my way through the twelve book set. It’s worth every penny (especially if it has a photo of the actor on the cover) !!!
I read Ross Poldark before I had ever heard of the TV show. The book was so good that I also read the next 2 books in the series. Someday, when I’m ready to become completely absorbed in a book again, I’ll read the rest.
This is definitely not some fluffy, predictable historical romance. It’s deeply moving and transporting. The character …
Part of a series this Book will bring you to the end of the XVIII Th century England. All these twelve books are a whole travel in Space and Time. Quitte a different story than the broadcast bbc series.
This is one of the best series I’ve ever run into….all 12 books are fantastic!
