Meet Rosemary Field, chemist turned private chef, in this fresh and funny romantic mystery from a USA Today bestseller. The day I become a murder suspect starts like any other. I’m busy prepping for a dinner party, regretting my life choices, and putting up with my diva movie star boss’s antics. But when said miserable movie star dies from an allergic reaction after eating my cooking, the police … after eating my cooking, the police want to charge me and close the case.
To clear my reputation and stay out of prison, I have to find the real murderer. The suspect list is long (did I mention she was a rotten person?) and includes a womanizing race car driver; a powerful music producer; Hollywood’s hottest leading man; and, oh yeah, Felix, the dead woman’s gorgeous stepson–which gets a bit awkward when he and I start dating.
Things go from bad to worse when Felix nearly dies from food poisoning after I make him a romantic dinner.
Now I’m unhappily single, unemployed, and once again on the wrong side of the LAPD.
Salvaging an oversalted sauce? No problem. Saving my bacon while a ruggedly handsome homicide detective investigates me for murder? We’ll see …

This was an excellent book, it is well written the characters are developed well and once you start be prepared not to be able to put it down.
The development of the story just makes you want to keep reading to see how it ends.
Since it is the first in a series, the ending does not leave you hanging, but you are introduced to all the characters even if briefly.
I liked this book, I found it humorous but still with an interesting plot and believable characters. I will read the rest in the series
Rosemary is a chef for a famous actress and her well-to-do family. When the actress dies after eating food prepared by Rosemary for a dinner party, Rosemary becomes the prime suspect. Many people disliked Amber (the actress) however, so several other suspects come to light.
This didn’t really seem like a cozy mystery to me. It felt more like a rom-com with a touch of mystery thrown in. The writing is simple and the story is easy to read. The mystery isn’t much of a mystery; it was easy to peg the culprit fairly early on. There was a fair amount of flirting and sexual tension (almost in the style of Edward and Bella). The characters weren’t fully developed and there was one storyline that was left open-ended, which makes me question if it will be resolved in the next book. I also noticed several grammatical errors as well.
I didn’t love it and I didn’t hate it. This book definitely needed polish and to be developed more but it was kind of cute in its own way.
I like anything Melissa Miller writes. She writes well, and is not “cookie cutter” w/ her plots.
Several characters seemed a bit too pat and somewhat unbelievable, IMO, but recommended for a fun read.
Well written story line..
Good Read
A simplistic plot and writing.
Predictable, given 5 suspects and 1st suspect has to eliminate all the others until she stumbles upon the murderer and almost gets killed herself. Also has relationship with one of the suspects then falls in love with the detective on the case. This cozy mystery is almost a romance novel.
Perfect book if you are looking for a quick read that offers some substance along with entertainment. There was a little bit of mystery and a little bit of romance. I liked the characters. It is a good bet that I will read more books from the author.
Enjoyable reading
A great mystery book that has you guessing all the way to the end!
Enjoyed the way the author wrote. I’ll probably read the other books in the series
Could not put this book down, loved it!
Well written kept my attention
Good mix of romance and intrigue.
A very nice mystery with some interesting turns.
This is a fun romantic mystery about a chemist turned private chef in order to help pay off family obligations. There is a murder in the wealthy household where she works and she is blamed for it. Of course she has to clear her name. The mystery is well plotted with lots of ways things could go. It’s allows you to sift through the clues and suspects as she does. The ending is believable along with a little light romance thrown in. This is book one of three. It was easy to invest myself in the characters and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
fun read but forgettable
Book was okay. Mystery mixed with a little romance. Far fetched in places, but I read it for entertainment.
