Meet Rosemary Field, chemist turned private chef, in this fresh and funny romantic mystery from a USA Today bestseller. The day I become a murder suspect starts like any other. I’m busy prepping for a dinner party, regretting my life choices, and putting up with my diva movie star boss’s antics. But when said miserable movie star dies from an allergic reaction after eating my cooking, the police … after eating my cooking, the police want to charge me and close the case.
To clear my reputation and stay out of prison, I have to find the real murderer. The suspect list is long (did I mention she was a rotten person?) and includes a womanizing race car driver; a powerful music producer; Hollywood’s hottest leading man; and, oh yeah, Felix, the dead woman’s gorgeous stepson–which gets a bit awkward when he and I start dating.
Things go from bad to worse when Felix nearly dies from food poisoning after I make him a romantic dinner.
Now I’m unhappily single, unemployed, and once again on the wrong side of the LAPD.
Salvaging an oversalted sauce? No problem. Saving my bacon while a ruggedly handsome homicide detective investigates me for murder? We’ll see …

This is a quick, fun read with one or two engaging characters in the cast. The protagonist, Rosemary Field, is a former chemist turned private chef who becomes embroiled in the goings on of the preeminent Los Angeles family for whom she works. The whodunnit is relatively easy to solve and there are no loose ends in the wrap up but, for me, there was nothing particularly compelling about the novel. I guess I expected more based on my experience with another mystery series by the same author.
Well written and easy to read.
Decent mystery — which is harder than it sounds . . .
Good read
Enjoyable easy read.
Great start for a fun to read trilogy
I love this author. I loved reading her book because it was so much fun reading. I laughed, related to the characters, tried to figure out who did it, and every time I thought I had it figured out book…

A cute story despite being a bit predictable
Great book! Very entertaining, would highly recommend to anyone that loves a good mystery with a little romance and comedy sprinkled in.
Really enjoyed the plot and characters
Really liked Rosemary, her life and the odd characters and sisters in her life. Will read more from this author.
Loved it, a happy mystery, twists and turns, funny moments
Because I do a lot of technical reading and writing in my work, I enjoy reading entertainment fiction. And for me that means mysteries that have the right balance of drama, angst, and humor. Show me a mystery in which the protagonists’ personal dramas constantly undermine their ability to work and I’ll skip to the last two chapters when they finally get their act together. Then maybe some day when I’m really bored I’ll go back and read the rest of it. While Rosemary’s Gravy adhered to the chick-lit entertainment fiction formula, Rosemary’s knowledge of cooking and chemistry introduce an intriguing element and her other characters stayed just far enough within the limits of reality not to undermine their credibility. All in all the book’s the balance and tempo were spot on and perfect for someone looking a few hours of escapism from a world that already has enough relentless drama and angst in it..
