A river of poison runs through Rose’s veins.Ten years ago, Rose Carrado was just a child who made the mistake of trying to catch snowflakes. Boston was overrun by creatures no human had ever seen, or even believed existed. Rose was easy prey. As she lay bleeding—dying—she came face-to-face with an ancient being, one who commanded her to live. So she did. Now a young woman, Rose lives with the … woman, Rose lives with the consequences of that command. Changed by the creature who bit her, she’s a reminder of a time humans want to forget.
But she was left with something else: a connection to those ancient vampires who saved her life so long ago. When brothers Ra, Seti, and Horus return to Boston, the ties that bind them to Rose snap tight. For the first time, they encounter someone who has the power to throw their unending existence into the best sort of chaos, and they won’t allow anything—not life, not death—to take her from them.

Rose (Daylight’s Crown Book 1) Kindle Edition
by Ripley Proserpina
I borrowed this book via Kindle Unlimited and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Much like Briar in her Midnight’s Crown Series, Ripley Proserpina has created a set very memorable characters. My personal favorite is Rose herself. Ms. Proserpina captures the unique ailment and struggle that comes with chronic pain, right down to the way that chronic pain sufferers manage their pain and their lives around that pain. Many writers would not have had the insight to properly and intricately describe the tricks and methods we use to get through the day.
That said, she also has a deft touch in the creation of characters. Rose is strong, self sufficient and exhausted in a way that only someone who is pushing themselves just to function. She was attacked during the Nightmare, which took ten years previously, during the Midnight’s Crown series. A vampire attacked her, tried to killer and was stopped by an angel. That angel turned out to be one of three immortal brothers, Ra, Seti, and Horus. The brothers return to her life just in time to complicate it with passion, desire and maybe love. We meet characters we made old friends with before because of this new relationship between the brothers and Rose.
Ms. Proserpina lays out a delicate and twisting plot, setting clues that should be obvious but aren’t until the climax is reached. And I just shook my head with a “I should have seen that coming”.
This is a slow burn Reverse Harem. The three brothers are not exactly keen on being a harem, which is a nice change from the men trying to convince the lucky heroine that it is okay. There is only slight contact between the characters.
Storytelling duties fall upon all four characters in separate third person chapters, with the characters for the most part having their own unique styles.
Villains make their appearances only a few times, and left me wanting to more about them.
The new strain of Immortal has me fascinated. Not quite vampires but nearly indestructible, the three brothers make me want to race to the next book. Which makes me sad, as of this writing, the next book is still in the works.
The setting of Boston is so well described that I, who have never been there, felt like a local.
All in all, truly wonderful
Five stars out of five

Beautiful continuation of the Midnight’s Crown series. I loved Rose as much as I did Briar. She is a tough, smart woman and I love this story. Can’t wait for more.
Rose was attacked by a “demon” the night of the Nightmare, and saved by an angel. But no one believed her, or the pain she experiences or the other weird changes in her. Then she meets 3 guys and what she thinks she knows about the world is turned on her head. I liked that Rose has pushed herself to achieve the goals she set and to not let the pain hold her back. This story is set in the same world as the Midnight Crown series and Briar and her guys do make an appearance. Thankfully book 2 just came out and I can go download it right away!
Rose is the first in this brand new series from the author. Though it was a spin off the Briar series and I haven’t read it yet, this is a stand alone and previous characters appeared on this book. This is contemporary, paranormal romance.
The story was about Rose, the wonder child who survived the Nightmare that happened a decade ago. Doctors couldn’t describe her ability to heal fast and her hard like stone skin, not only that, they couldn’t find the source why she suffered chronic pain. This makes Rose, for me, a strong willed woman, the kind who doesn’t give up in life and strives to survive one day at a time. For a long time, she tried to live through the pain and attention from those who didn’t believe her claim of demon sightings. Until one day, her pain mysteriously goes away when she met Horus, and his brothers Seti and Ra.
Rose is a great start with its world building for the next book but with still enough mystery that will make you ask for more and beg for the next installment. Though there was instant attraction between Rose and her men, I love the slow build up of the relationship that makes it more realistic. The story was told through multiple POV, and it was a perfect way to differentiate and get to know the guys, what they feel and thinking.
I was intrigued to know more of the guys’ backstory especially when it was let slip what they really were *gasp*. I have a feeling that the next book will be action packed and maybe, steamier on the relationship side. Really enjoyed this one!
No spoilers of any kind included.
So this is all I’m going to say about Rose and that is I thought it was great and I’m going to leave it at that.
Ripley Proserpina is an awesome story weaver so much that I always look forward to her books.
Anyway it’s going to be a heck yeah I do recommend this book because I enjoyed reading it and I think you will too.
A great start to a new series!! I am a big fan of Ripley Proserpina’s Midnight’s Crown series, it’s one of my favorites, so I was so excited to learn of this new series that takes place in the same world. This book takes place ten years after the end of the Midnight’s Crown series and follows Rose a victim of the Boston Nightmare. She’s human, but still not because of the events that took place that night. As we follow her journey we meet Ra, Seti, and Horus three of the original vampire-esque people. These characters intrigued me in the MC series and I’m glad we get the opportunity to learn more about them in this new series. I love their connection with Rose and can’t wait to learn more about it. I really enjoyed the characters and the story line and of course I absolutely loved getting a glimpse of Briar and her family in this book. I was hoping they would be part of this book and I was so happy for that to happen! This was a great start to a new series and I’m excited to see what happens next! I recommend giving this book a read!
When Ripley gave us Briar in the Midnight’s Crown Series I fell in love. It quickly became my favorite series by this author. Daylight’s Crown being a spinoff from that had me super excited. Boy did it not disappoint!! Rose is right up there with Briar. So let’s start with, you don’t really HAVE to have read Midnight’s Crown series to read this series but I HIGHLY suggest that you do. It’s ten years later but we do get to see Briar and her guys again. Which by the way I loved!! It will just help you understand a little better the history of all that is happening.
Now Rose, I love her. She is one tough ass cookie. She lives every day with a pain nobody can understand. Not only the physical pain which is intense and some days even crippling. But there is also the emotional pain. Living through what she did. Not having anyone believe her. Not being able to let go of the past, ever. It takes an extremely strong person to deal with what she does and she does it all without complaint for the most part.
Ra, Seti and Horus we briefly met in Midnight’s Crown. Existing for as long as they have, they are a pretty tight knit group of brothers. So they are knocked on their asses when Rose enters their lives. They don’t know how to deal with the things that are happening to them. They aren’t used to attachments that can hurt them. Rose, she can definitely hurt them. Then poor Ra has his own issues when he realizes that one simple choice in his past has left Rose to face the consequences.
These four fumble their way through the changes happening in their lives while trying to get Rose help. As always though, the more you learn, the more questions that pop up and the more secrets that come out.
I thoroughly enjoyed this first book in this new series. I think I finished it in one sitting. Once I picked it up I just didn’t want to put it down. It had everything you want in a first book. An introduction to the characters that get you invested. Twists to keep your heart racing, action and violence to gets you on the edge of your seat. Not so much on the sexy times yet but you definitely get a feel for the intense chemistry with this group.
Highly recommend you add this to your TBR. If you liked Midnight’s Crown you will love Rose. If you haven’t read Midnight’s Crown yet, then you have three more books to add to your list b/c they are awesome as well.
Rose is the first in the new Daylight’s Crown RH series! I’m guessing trilogy, but we’ll see what we get. Proserpina did such an amazing job world building in the Midnights’s Crown series, it’s perfect to tell a different RH story within its border of the Boston area. Rose Carrado is the lone survivor from the Boston Nightmare from ten years ago, nobody wants to believe what they saw or the story a twelve year old had to tell in the aftermath. She was saved by an “Angel” but she carries a lot of mental and physical pain from that time in her young life. She is a solid hard working girl with a sense of humor to get by in the tough neighborhood of Jamaica Plain. Fate has played a strong hand in her life and it’s not done yet. Crossing paths with her savior and his two brothers again has them all stirred up.
This slow burn has me captured with the three ancient originals return from pages Diadem of Blood and Bone. Ra, Horus and Seti are cautious of mixing too closely with humans with relatively short life spans so they are taking their time getting to know Rose. The humanity returning to the brothers and them realizing that their life may have some color and not just to be endured is lovely. I’m a big fan of the slow burn and watching the brothers casually court Rose is refreshing. There are bad guys left in the Boston area and they’re closer that anyone thinks. Briar and her husbands are friends and happy to help Rose understand her unique physical traits. I delighted in being back in their universe and getting a peek at a growing Lindy. I anxiously await book two, get on it Ripley!
Rose is always in pain. It began she was attacked by the demon during the nightmare and survived. The reason she survived was that she was told she wouldn’t die, it was almost an order. She describes that occurence as her guardian angel. That’s not the only thing that happened, there are days when she likens her skin to metal, nothing will penetrate it easily, and she heals rapidly from all injuries.
After she is attacked again in daylight, in the arboretum she returns to the hospital where they had taken blood just this morning. Maybe there was something Dr. Stone could learn from the saliva where the creature tried and failed to bite her. He was the only one who believed her, the only one who would treat her or so she thought.
A starling revelation from the doctor, and meeting with Horus and Seti on the elevator has Rose fleeing for safety.
I love the way this book slowly escalates from that initial meeting. Her meeting Ra, the one who told her she would live is not as one would expect. It the immediate relief from pain when the guys are with her that is startling as much as the return of it when they leave here.
It’s great seeing Briar and her family again too. I really have to go back and re-read the Midnight Crown series before the next book in this series comes out.
Action, intrigue and many surprises as the relationship between Rose, Ra, Horus and Seti begins to develop into something more than just friendship.
What a Thrilling Start!
This is a really fantastic and thrilling start to what is sure to be another amazing series from this author. There is so much suspense and intrigue wrapped up in this story – it will definitely keep you guessing. And even though book one is slower paced, there is sure to be tons of action in the next book or so.
Rose is an amazing character. She may think she is not strong but boy is she wrong. Rose is fierce, strong and a little sassy. I love her attitude towards life and love. She is one character who you can tell will grow even stronger over the series. The new men in her life Ra, Seti, and Horus are just starting to get to know her in this book and you can already see that they are going to be fiercely protective and loyal throughout. They are also very funny and charming. I absolutely love their interactions with Rose.
I loved everything about this book. It sure kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen to Rose next. It also kept me laughing as Rose is quite the character. I am very excited to see how this series turns out.
I thought that this was a very compelling read. This is book one in this series that is a spin-off of the Midnight’s Crown series. I feel that you could easily read this without having read that series. Just keep in mind that characters do reoccur and story line points and events are referenced from the first series. Rose is shaping up to be a complex and interesting character. Her uniqueness is appealing but at the same time it will make your heart ache for her. I liked Ra, Seti, and Horus and eagerly look forward to seeing their relationship with Rose to continue to evolve. The story unfolds at a slow and steady pace, which I thought worked very well with the situation and characters. I found the pull and chemistry between characters strong and tangible. The story line is engaging and will really have you looking forward to book two.
What a great start to this series! Rose is fantastic and the boys are perfect. I’m so excited to see where this goes and I love the inclusion of Briar and her men. Really good!
