Peter Gilbert, Duke of Sudworth is a good man, but at the moment he’s angry and very very bitter. He has inherited the title and the debt that the selfish lives of his deceased brother and father created. He was forced to leave the home that he loved to try and save his dysfunctional family and their shared heritage. Facing bankruptcy, he has determined to keep his heritage at whatever cost. Only … Only those closest to him know the real reason he is desperate to save his family home – the member of his family his father was ashamed off.
Rosalind Johnson, is the eldest daughter of a ‘cit’, a man who has earned his fortune through business. As an ambitious father he is determined that his four daughters will marry the highest titles in the country, whether they like it or not, and he is prepared to pay to achieve his goal. Rosalind has no choice to marry a stranger and take on a life and Society that looked down on someone who came from trade. She would need all her resourcefulness to cope.
Two people forced together because of circumstances that they did not create would be set for a shaky start at best, but with local gossip, illegitimate children and an alleged affair, things were never going to be quiet in the home of the Duke and Duchess of Sudworth.
This is the first book of the Four Sisters’ Series. Each book exploring the lives of the Johnson sisters.

Regency romance readers… check out this author: great characters, moving story lines… Too good to miss!
It is what you would expect from a historical romance. The main characters are amazing and I found myself enjoying the story so much I bought all the rest of the books and read them too. They are all fabulous books. I highly recommend this entire series.
I was very pleasantly surprised by this author. Very well written and clean.
Victorian romance.
This book moved too slowly for me and didn’t keep my interest. I finally gave up on it and chose something else to read on my list.
A great romantic read. It was not all wonderful for those that inherited a title. Sometimes it was an anchor that was choking you or dragging you down to your death, by the opulent lifestyle of your forbears.
Nice sister story.
It felt flat. I was annoyed by the (h)’s need to run away. Other than that it was an ok book, but I didn’t feel any connection to the characters to make me want to read further into the series.
Audrey Harrison’s books are lovely. Very comfortable stories with characters that endear themselves to the reader.
Perfect HEA.
Loved the whole series. They are what you want in a good romance. Characters that are noble but broken in some way that creates a need for that one special person to be complete. *sigh*
Clean historical romance with real villains, not imaginary problems. I liked the whole series.
I liked this book. I like the characters and the imaginative solutions they work out to solve their difficulties. A few twists towards the end and still a happy ending.
I liked this book but was unprepared for the ending. Will have to read book #2 in the series to see what happens to the other sisters. Love to see female characters in this era take control of their lives and prosper even though the men in their lives make it difficult. I enjoyed the twists and turns and look forward to learning more about their lives.
I love this author!!! Started with this one and I worked my way through the entire sister series. I even messaged the author, and she replied the same day!!!
This book is an easy and fast read. The characters are more realistic than most in this genre. The situations were believable and there was not endless descriptive dribble. A good read.
It is so good that I immediately added book 2, then book 3, then book 4 to my library. Keeps you reading late into the night.
This book was a happy surprise: marriage for the worst of reasons, friends, foes, complications, love, happy ever after. Two truly good people found in an arranged marriage trying to make the best of it; selfish people trying to exploit the situation; good friends trying to help; all framed in the somewhat stifling atmosphere of the Ton in Regency England. Well written, healthy insights into characters, plausible situations made this book a nice place to visit, I will reread it–high praise.
Engaging characters thrown together in an arranged marriage learn to love each other, and forge a relationship that grows and endures. The storyline is somewhat predictable, but it’s very enjoyable.
Punctuation is a bit strange at times, but overall language and phrasing is pleasant. There were proofing errors here and there, but overall much better writing than I expect from free/low cost books. I’m rather nerdy on spelling and punctuation, and those errors are my only complaint.
I enjoyed this book so much that I purchased the three sequels.
