I remember reading old stories about portals to magical far-off worlds, and the brave adventurers who traveled through them. But those were just kids’ stories… Until it happened to me. One morning I woke up in a field all alone with no idea where I was or how I’d gotten there. Fell through a portal, they told me. Someone wants you dead, they warned. None of it made any sense.A kindly innkeeper … kindly innkeeper discovered me and made it her job to get me back home, but those plans were quickly derailed when an out-of-town guest at her inn was murdered under magical circumstances.
The clock is ticking, both to expose the killer and to send me back home to Vilea… Otherwise, I might be stuck in this strange place called “Georgia” forever.

A magical mystery and adventure
Really enjoyable paranormal read, devoured it in one sitting. Polly an element wakes up in a another dimension, lucky the kindly bed and breakfast owner takes her in and offer to help find away home. When on the people is killed at the Bed and Breakfast things get complicated. Can Polly with the help of her new friends solve the mysteries and manage to get home.
I enjoyed Roots of Magic. This is an interesting paranormal mystery. I like the characters and how they developed through the book. This is an intriguing mystery that ended with a cliffhanger ending. I look forward to more in the series to see where this story goes and to answer questions left unanswered in this book. This is a good read.
Cliffhanger Ending!
Interesting story with an Elemental from another world falling through a portal and landing up in Georgia. There are various types of magical/paranormal happenings going on in the rural town of Elyria plus a murder mystery. The latter is solved within the book but mysteries still abound and certainly at the end you are left wanting to find out what happens next. So, not for me as I hate being left up in the air – I much prefer standalone books unless reading a box set.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book given away by the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Understanding the mistake seems less important than correcting it.”
Somehow, (Princess) Pollyiela lands in Elyria Georgia from Vilea through one of the many portals that open in Peach Plains. Why? Who knows. How? Another question unanswered. She is taken under the wing of Lorraine, owner of Fox’s End B+B, who figured out that she wasn’t supposed to be there.
And then, one of Lorraine’s guests dies, and “Polly” is bound and determined not to let her friend down and find the person who poisoned her. With a fast paced, page-turning story, Mila Riggs proves once again that she can take you to the cliff, and then…. stay tuned! (You have no idea how hard it is not to write this review w/o spoilers…) Highly Recommended 5/5
[disclaimer: I received this book from the author via her publisher, and voluntarily read and reviewed it]
This is a new series by Mila Riggs. This author is actually a combination of two with one of my favorite authors Mallory Crowe. It’s a clean paranormal mystery and has me intrigued with the story. I’m curious as to what will happen as there is a cliffhanger. I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest opinion and voluntary review.
A Quirky New Magical Mystery Series!!

Roots of Magic: Peach Plains Paranormal
Polly wakes up in a field with no idea how she got there. It’s immediately clear by the air, sky & Sun she isn’t on her planet though!! She comes across a kindly lady that says she’ll help her, thankfully. She’s wary but it’s clear by her lavish abode she can afford to be generous. It’s a Bed & Breakfast apparently. Polly was supposed to be attending her bethrothal party that day, but after resting all she remembers is getting up & dressed then it’s a blank. She has no idea how idea how or why a portal brought her to this place!!
As she settles in & helps Lorraine cook for the guests, she realises it’s the first time anyone has just assumed she’s capable of anything. The longer she’s there & the more she helps, it makes her feel ashamed of how little she’s ever done, or even thought to even ask to do, at home! She’s from the strongest Earth Elemental family, is a Princess, but doesn’t even use her gifts to help her people!! And even Jacob, the grumpy handyman, thinks she’s useful and that together they might be able to solve a murder!
This book got better as it went on. I wasn’t gripped by the first chapter, the writing felt a bit rudimentary, but that soon changed, thankfully!! Then it started to really pick up in pace & the writing improved immensely. I liked Polly, Lorraine & Jacob – I’m not too sure about anyone else, I think Jasmine just has a brusk personality? I felt like there was a lot of world building missing, I’m hoping this will be fleshed out in book #2. I’m used to tighter story telling from one half of this new writing partnership! I hope she can bring her usual incredible world building into play much more, as it’s needed!!
Overall, I found this to be a decent first book in a series but it could have been tighter! I will still read the next one though, I NEED to know what happens next!

One person is already murdered…who will be next? Why? How does she have the whole town behind her? What does she want? When they try to send Polly home…an unexpected person steps out…but why and what did he have to do with her coming here in the first place? I received this as an ARC and am leaving a voluntary review.
