Suddenly, I was a bachelor in an unfamiliar town with a money pit of a house, a truck that wouldn’t run, and a new job. Yet, all could think about was Mutt, or at least that’s what they called her.To me, she was gorgeous and witty … and perfect. She knew more duty than desire, more perseverance than passion, and more acquaintance than affection, but here was no way I’d ever want to change her. … change her. In fact, I was dying to show her the life she’d been missing, but first she’d have to trust me enough to tell me her real name.
I wanted to plant roots, but I refused to clip her wings. Not when she was everything I’d been looking for and all the home I’d ever need.
Roots and Wings is a standalone contemporary romance. If you’re looking for a good time, then you’ve come to the right place. Welcome to Wynne.

Well, this is odd. I just found this function on Book Bub and thought I’d give it a whirl. I’m not sure what happens when you recommend a book on here and so I’m using my own as a guinea pig. However, you should totally pick up Roots and Wings because I sincerely love those characters and that whole small-town world of Wynne. If you’re looking for low drama, good slow burn (with pay-off lol), and characters who could live right down the street, give it a try.
ALSO: please note that I was forced to rate my own book and that felt totally icky.
Great book…great couple…love Vaughan…can’t wait to start the next book!
I liked this book. I really liked how the majority of the story was based around their relationship in the growth of that. I also liked how he was attracted to how she was and not how others view her. The end was happy but I felt like it was outside of her character a bit. But I really liked the story.
Small town romance at it’s best. Such an unconventional storyline with believable characters makes this one you do not want to pass up. An honest to goodness love story. I couldn’t put this one down.
I really enjoyed reading this love story. Love small towns and this story had no drama, no violence(other than a quick punch to a jerk who deserved it), just two interesting characters that you will fall in love with. Vaughan is the new hot dentist in town. Hannah/Mutt was raised by her dad, her mother was a whore(her words not mine) who left when she was a baby. Her grandfather nicked named her Mutt and that’s what the town calls her. They are drawn towards each other. Hannah does have some sass. Hannah has built walls around her heart. Vaughan is so good to and good for Hannah. Loved the epiloge! Pick up the book and start reading, it will warm your heart. Looking foward to reading more in Wynne!
I have read this book several times. I love these characters. Their love story is so sweet.
I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book but ultimately fell for Vaughn’s love of Hannah. I found it offensive that the entire town called Hannah Mutt. What kind of father allows that? As it turns out, a clueless one. Thank goodness Vaughn came into town to help this woman find herself. I loved their slow dance toward love. I really liked the feisty heroine and the hero who is ready to settle and make a home. There is no external conflict here. The conflict is with Hannah and her feelings of duty to her family vs. making herself happy and how she comes to terms with it. A couple typo’s here and there in the prose but nothing distracting. Otherwise well written. The internal dialogue between the characters was humorous as were the Dad’s nicknames for Vaughn.
I loved this book!
This book has been sitting in my TBR pile for a good while and finally I got to read it.
It was an absolutely feel good small town romance. I loved it. It strengthened my belief that the recipe for a good book is quite simple actually. You don’t need it to be dark full of depravity, or angsty full of despair, you don’t even need a billionaire in it. You only need it to be believable and honest. Of course it helps if you give the reins to someone who can actually write too.
Great characters, plenty of romance, slow burning but all consuming passion. I enjoyed the writing style and the dual POVs.
This story was a breath of fresh air, just what the doctor ordered for a gloomy day.
An under appreciated, small town girl befriends an new dentist. Their attraction is instant but their build is slow. sweet story. Would have liked a little more of Dean since he was her best friend/ brother figure and all else with that. Hopefully we will see him more too. Also like that their professions were differentbthat the ones that always appear in books.
M. Mabie is known for a certain kind of book.
Angst. Betrayal. Cliffhanger. Anguish.
This is not that kind of book.
From the first words, you know this one’s going to be different.
Small town – check
Awkward female lead – check
Hot male lead – check
Sassy, fun characters – check
M. Mabie brings it all together in this book. Whether it’s the father creating new nicknames for the hot lead (things like Van, instead of Vaughn, and one of my favorites, Astro), or Vaughn getting all sensitive and pissy over Mutt’s nickname (because, let’s be serious, who wants to be called Mutt – no matter how long it’s been).
Fun, funny and sexy – an all-around perfect blend of setting, characters and dialogue that makes you want to find this town and chat up all the friends you just made.
I love the small town feel. I just felt an instant draw to the town and everyone in it.
“Sometimes having wings and choosing not to fly away is the whole point, because when you have a love like ours there’s no place you’d rather be”.
Vaughn was looking for a place to plants his roots, to start over and to raise a family. He knew Wynne was special, but he never expected that a stranger named Mutt would share her sandwich and capture his heart at the same time.
Mutt is my kind of gal. I loved her spunk and the fact that she was a tomboy who spoke her mind, she could easy step in my inner circle of friends and be quite comfortable.
These two give you a slow burn that will make you want to grab a marshmallow and pull up to the fire. Delicious.
There was just no nonsense to this book. It gave me the feels, gave me some steam and gave me a page turner that had real people in it. I just loved every page of it.
I just loved Wynne!
“It’s the beginning of everything.”
First and last book I read by this author. Not very exciting and I could feel a connection whatsoever. Too cookie cutter no real conflict.
Sorry, I couldn’t get into it.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the others.
Simply enjoyable!
