What would you find if you walked into the rooms of your soul? One man is about to find out.James L. Rubart is the bestselling, four-time Christy Award-winning author of nine novels, and has won numerous other accolades for his unique, mind-bending stories. About ROOMS: It was just a letter. Cryptic, yes absolutely. But Seattle software tycoon Micah Taylor can’t get it out of his mind—the claim … Taylor can’t get it out of his mind—the claim that a home was built for him by a great uncle he never knew, on the Oregon coast. In Cannon Beach. The one place he loves. The one place he never wants to see again.
Micah heads to Cannon Beach to sell the house and keep his past buried, but the nine thousand square-foot home instantly feels like it’s part of him.
Then he meets Sarah Sabin at the local ice cream shop … maybe Cannon Beach can be the perfect weekend getaway.
But strange things start happening in the house. Things Micah can’t explain. Things he can barely believe. All the locals will say is the house is “spiritual.” Unsettling since Micah’s faith slipped away like the tide years ago.
And then he discovers the shocking truth: the home isn’t just spiritual, it’s a physical manifestation of his soul.

The book has an interesting concept with the house, and I like that the main character is working through his issues. Some of the theology didn’t sit exactly right with me, and the book went a little long in the middle, but I think this is a novel that men would enjoy.
Thought provoking, definitely makes you question and really think about the possibilities.
This is a very thought provoking book. Story was good, kept my interest to find out how it would end. Made me think about how I am allowing God into all of my life and inspired me to want to open up more and more of my “rooms” to Him. I didn’t put down Scary and yet a few times it made me think of Frank Peritts books. Also made me see the necessity of making sure the “voice” you hear speaking to you is God and not evil.
I love this book. The people were so real like reading a Frank Peritti Novel. I now have a goal to read all of these books.
After reading this book, which made me really think about where the story was headed, I went back and bought 2 more by this same author! I really enjoyed this kindle book.
A Fantastic Story of Faith and Choices
Jim Rubart writes dynamic, out of the box fiction. Each book I’ve had the pleasure of reading by him is as unique as a snowflake and just as entrancing.
This is the story of one person’s choices, but it could be the twin to our own lives.
It makes you realize your life choices matter in technicolor reality. It’s a strong story that grabs you from the beginning and hurls you along on one fantastic journey.
It is simply an incredible novel.
Very easy to read and understand unlike some other books that I have read and put you really in the Lord’s home as you walk from room to room
Rooms is speculative fiction at best!
I made the mistake of taking this book on vacation with me….and then all I wanted to do was read the book!!! James Rubart is now my new favorite author.
Reminded me of The Shack. Clever and thought provoking
This book was amazing. Couldn’t put it down. Once you start reading, you won’t want stop. It’s definitely a page turner. Gets where to go to places you don’t want to. Real life events
In this book a Christian man’s spiritual journey is told using the fantasy device of parallel time streams. Micah is given the chance to explore the what-if’s of his life. What if he could change his life decisions based on what God would direct rather than by what had seemed to be right? What if decisions he’d made based on experiences of his youth resulted in choices that were not the best for his soul?
Recommended to Christians and those open to or interested in Christian beliefs and teachings.
Do not think that handing this story to non-Christians will change their perspective.
The story is well-crafted. We are shown how a tragedy and a cruel word here or there can change a person’s life choices. We travel with Micah between Seattle, Washington and Canon Beach, Oregon as he’s given a chance to be guided into another reality that may or may not be better than the one he’s been living with which he has been very satisfied.
How? His great-uncle who he didn’t even know, has left him a beautiful house on the coast. But, with that house come the rooms –sometimes fantastical rooms where Micah experiences the joys and sorrows of his life.
Soon what-might-have-been and what-is start affecting each other. When Micah doesn’t appreciate the changes, can he go back and fix it? Should he?
No sex
No strong language
No violence
Because I am Christian, I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline with its spiritual as well as intellectual challenges.
This book was different. I had trouble relating to it. It had interesting ideas, but too many plot holes.
Made me think and examine my faith
Classic James Rubart novel. The story immediately draws you into the plot and you are hooked until you get to the last page. Rubart uses actual locations so that the reader can visualize what is happening. He mixes fantasy and reality and makes for an exciting drama. I have read all of his books and none have disappointed.
Love this book! Suspenseful and Christian
Just couldn’t put it down.
Unique and creative. Kept me thinking about it long afterwards. Great spiritual perspective.
I really enjoyed it! I got caught up in the story, it was hard to put it down! A few things are a little bit of a stretch on the imagination, but it was a fun book to read!
There are few books that inspire, intrigue & motivate me all at once. Few books that stay with me long after the last page is turned. Rare is the book that goes beyond pleasure in reading it to making me want more…more of Jesus, my personal Savior & dearest friend. Praise goes to Him for giving you, James L. Rubart, the deep & endearing story. Thanks goes to you for sharing it.
