Fighting. Blackmail. Scandal. And they say rookies don’t have fun.JackJack Ruby is a fighter – literally. At 19, he’s gotten into more fights than he remembers. It probably has to do with the fact that since he was a child, he’s been angry. His mother’s a drug addict who only talks to him when she wants money, he lives with his best friend since he has nowhere else to go, and he’s in love with … nowhere else to go, and he’s in love with said best friend’s sister.
He’s screwed.
The only good that comes out of this is he just signed with the Newport Beach Seagulls’s minor league affiliate, the Irvine Mayhem.
If he’s good at anything, it’s hockey. And sex. And fighting.
As long as he stays away from Lily, he’ll be fine.
But Jack’s never been good at playing by the rules.
Lily
Lily Sinclair doesn’t get the opportunity to say no when her brother and his best friend move in with her. She’s trying to get ready for her first year of college while they’re partying, getting into fights, and playing hockey.
Must be nice.
It wouldn’t be so bad if her brother was friends with anyone but Jack Sinclair. The brown eyes, the high cheekbones, that mischievous grin.
God, she’s in so much trouble.
When an ex shows up in her life, blackmailing her over a video Lily hadn’t been aware of, she’s tells him to eff off.
That’s when all hell breaks loose in the form of Jack Ruby.
Will he ever look at her the same way again?

Rookies Do It Better: Book 1 in The Minor League Mayhem Series
Previous ArticleShadow Undercover (Fortress Security Book 10)
This is a young adult sports romance that i wouldnt normally read as im not into the young adult genre.
I found the storyline a little confusing and encountered plot holes through out the book.
– the main characters are meant to be 19 and 18.. and the confusion is that Lily is 18 and so is her brother Alec …….. but they arent twins
– in chapter 2 Lily is surprised to see Jack but in chapter 3 we have Jack thinking “She didn’t have to let him crash here, either, but she had.”
Jack and his childhood friend have been signed up in the AHL Hockey league and are staying with his best friends sister Lily.
Lily has always had a crush on Jack and never knew that he had one for her too, but now that her ex shows up blackmailing her she is afraid of what Jack will think of her.

Not bad I was worried for a bit because I love hockey and I had liked her other series when it began but I felt like it had gone down hill by the end so I was a little wary to begin this one and thankfully I did enjoy..We meet Jack who is in love with his friend Alec’s sister (we know him from other series) when she is blackmailed by her ex-boyfriend things start sizzling between these two…grab a copy

Jack and Lily have known each other for years. He’s her brother’s best friend and she’s crushed on Jack for as long as she can remember. Loved how Jack defends Lily’s honor and how the sparks are there but they just aren’t sure how to act on them because of her brother. This is the first book of the Minor League Mayhem series but it can be read as a standalone and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
I could unfortunately only give this book a 2,5 stars.
I liked the story outline and the plot but the chapters jumped from one description of the event that happened to a whole other in the next! The chapters jump between perspectives and sometimes they see the event differently, like he apologized for something that hadn’t happened yet and that happened too many times.
But I liked the characters and the villains were really villains and I liked that too. So the story had a really good outline and plot but sad it got destroyed by the mistakes and jumps.
If they were corrected it would help soo much, and then I could definitely recommend this book.

An enjoyable, short read with an entertaining plot and the chemistry steamy between the main characters.
Lots of drama and angst come into play as the story unfolds.
I thought this was a very sweet and emotional romance.

Jack and Lily have known each other for years – she’s his best friend’s little sister. He was just signed to play in the minors – she’s a college student. They have a little fling, and are trying to figure out what is means, and how to go forward. Her life turns into a nightmare when an unknown sex video surfaces on the internet, thanks to a scumbag ex-boyfriend. Jack tries to help out, and ends up in a heap of trouble. Seraphina Hansen treats Jack like family, and helps to get him out of trouble, and also to resolve Lily’s situation. I really liked this book, and am looking forward to more in this series.

An amazing 1st book in the ‘Minor League Mayhem’ series. It is an engaging well written read that has some suspense, humour, witty banter, and a HEA. The characters are likeable with off the charts chemistry between them. A truly fantastic read; definitely recommended!

This is the first book in the Mayhem series. I have read the Slap Shot series by this author and love it. I had to give this series a read. This book takes on the brother’s best friend storyline. This is Jack and Lily’s story. This was a good story that brings the two main characters together in their HEA. Interested to see where the series goes.

3.5 stars Very good young adult rookie hockey romance. The blurb gives a good description of the story. The author did a nice job constructing the story and developing the characters. The story is also about struggling to become an adult, friendships and the pitfalls during the teen years. Jack and his best friend are just starting their pro-hockey careers and have a lot of expectations from friends, family and mostly themselves. Lily is ready to take on college but her brother Alex and his best friend are temporarily living with her. The story has angst, family drama and some suspense. I received a complementary copy of this book via Booksprout and chose to write a review.
I enjoyed this book. The plot was entertaining (and timely), the characters likable and the chemistry steamy. Jack and Lily help to really bring this Brother’s best friend romance to life. The attraction between these two was imply to big to be ignored. Lots of drama and angst come into play as the story unfolds. I thought this was a very sweet and emotional romance.
The storyline was well written and the characters were so well rounded that I was hooked from the very first page! I really enjoyed the interaction between Jack and Lily and the chemistry between these two was hot!
