“When the first day of your job is the beginning of your lost fate…”For years, I spent my life moving across America, fleeing some unknown enemy with my mother and as an adult, I swore I’d never run again. Unfortunately for me, a past I never knew about is about to slap me in the face, one wrought with supernatural forces. My training officer, August stares at me like he knows something about me … like he knows something about me but nothing throws a wrench into my destiny like the untimely arrival of a dark shadow from the past.
And now August has to train me on much more than just policing.
Author’s Note: Due to the steamy nature this book is recommended for 18 and over. It is a stand a lone with an HEA.

First book in the series and first book I read by the author. I loved it.
Melissa always wanted to be a cop. She didn’t imagine that decision would change her life forever
I loved Melissa. She is strong And kind, she doesn’t want anyone to suffer. She protects Cara. She wants to fulfill her dream, to do it well. And she prefers to give up her dream rather than her principles, even if it breaks her heart.
I loved August. He is a good cop and tries to be a good mentor. And he has a great responsibility on his shoulders. He knows that he has to do things well, that he has to set an example. But he can’t do it if he can’t protect Melissa. She’s his, from the very first moment. I liked what he says, that he will always take care of her. But I didn’t like him lying to her, and also hiding information from her.
I would have liked it to be a little longer and see Melissa’s reaction to discovering the truth.
I loved them together.
I loved Amber.
I loved the setting, that shifters are part of human society and that they are not rejected (those who know of their existence).
I recommend it.
I received an ARC from the author, and this is my honest review.
Single mother Lisa Stark held her 3-year-old daughter, Melissa, so grateful for her, silently promising her that no one would ever hold her against her will. The kitchen phone rang and she tensed up. The blocked number could be a telemarketer, right? But it wasn’t. Her ex-husband, Paul, had found her once again somehow. He wanted her to bring his daughter back. So she hung up and she and Melissa prepared to run again.
Melissa was numb from sitting all day playing video games. When she stopped, her roommate tried talking to her again, saying that although she had said she always wanted to be a cop, the closer it got to starting her career, the more hesitant she seemed. She and her mom had always been constantly on the move, but from what and to where they were running, she was never actually clear. She never did get those answers. Now she would be starting as a rookie the next day in a very dangerous city. But for tonight, they would party at a local club. That is, until someone pulled a gun. Melissa knocked Cara to the ground and covered her body to keep her safe; but as soon as the ruckus was over, she got away from the scene. It would not be a good idea to be here the night before her new copy job began.
Detective August Silas got a call and his sister, currently sleeping on his couch, threw his phone at him for not taking it with him when he went to bed. Sergeant Walker told him they needed him at a club where a shooting occurred. He went into the back room to view the videotapes of the scene. Although the tech hadn’t noticed, August did… he saw a blond in a red dress spot the gun and instantly take her friend to the floor – so she would have seen the shooter. He went back out to find her among the customers being questioned.
Melissa met her Training Officer the next day. He was gorgeous, but she was so nervous she could hardly function. They got called to a possible hostage situation – back at the club she had run from the previous night! She phoned Louis to see what the situation was and talked him into sending out the guy who caused the chaos of this police call and who had been the guy with the gun the previous night. But her TO was standing behind her – this could most likely be the end of her career. But when danger from her past threatens, and August realizes what she is to him, will he be able to protect her? Will their lives be changed forever?
Great book! I loved the suspense and the humor. The story line was very good, and the characters were well-presented. I particularly loved August’s sister, Amber! She would make a wonderful best friend! She was hilarious and knew how to drive her brother crazy! I am eager for the next book – yes, it was that good! Grab your copy and see how the trouble that catches up to Melissa is finally resolved – or not!
First in a new series. This is a short fast and easy read. I liked the interaction between Melissa and August but felt that the story would benefit from some expansion. Melissa has been running her whole life and she doesn’t know why but she’s determined to stay in one place now. August is the stabilizing force in their relationship and he is necessary both to Melissa personally and professionally and especially when her past comes back to haunt her. Looking forward to additional books that expand the story. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).
This book has it all. Compelling characters, supporting loved ones, villains, intrigue, suspense, love, and a bit of bated breath for story to continue. Melissa and August were made for each other but the plot will thicken and their lives and others need to unfold.

An enjoyable storyline filled with larger than life characters. I found myself thoroughly rooting for the leads, getting involved in the circumstances. A well written plot keeps you reading, always engaged with what was happening. The only negative, for me, was unanswered questions.
I enjoyed reading this book , it is filled with action and the chemistry between Melissa a rookie cop and August her Trainer is wonderful. I can’t wait for more from this author. I received this book as a FREE ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
A good story. Cops, bad guys, shifters, mates, mystery, love.
A little abrupt ending with a partial cliff hanger.

Great Story! I love this author’s shifter stories and this new series promises to be a great one. It’s sort of a combination police procedural, paranormal romance, and suspenseful mystery story all rolled into one.
Melissa always wanted to be in the police force and finallly it becomes her turn. Her T.O., Alex, is an experienced man. What she does not know is that he is also a bear shifter. Soon he realises that his new rookie is his mate – but mates can only be found within their own species to his knowledge….When he finds out that Melissa is in trouble, he does whatever it takes to protect her.
A nice story, easy tdo read, with enough action in the mix to make the story quite interesting.

Again I have to say I like this author…she spins a good story with great characters. The bear Detective can’t believe his new rookie …she’s beautiful and smart…Melissa the rookie can’t believe her boss! Handsome and she feels things she shouldn’t be feeling for her boss. Good storyline and great characters.
A really good read – a crazy and enjoyable ride! It is a compelling, well written, and interesting paranormal romance with characters that has lots of depth and chemistry. Amazing storyline, an on the edge of your seat read with lots of twists and turns. The story moves along at a brisk pace; is action-packed, suspense-filled, and emotionally deep. Looking forward to the next book in the series. Definitely recommended.

A good first book in a new series
This is a great start to a new series and from the storyline and in particular the ending, I am confident that this new series is going to be just as good as Mia Taylors other series.

In the middle of all of this is your instructor who thinks you are his mate. What a life to get straightened out if you can? I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.
There is some answers but not all. The ending leaves it open for a lot more. Melissa is a cop so you know that there will be danger from that lone. Of course August is her OT. I like it that there are bears on the police force. Don’t you? Excellent story can’t wait to see what happens next and see if her father comes back to get her. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
I absolutely loved reading this book from the start but how could I not when it’s written by such a great auther. Melissa had been on the run all her life with her mom. When her mom dies she settles down in Chicago and joins the police force where she meets her training officer Detective Silas. Sparks fly from the beginning. The book is a short quick read and I patiently waiting for next book in the series.
