Hold onto your hat, Rookie Privateer by Jamie McFarland is a wild ride. The science is kind of out there, but the drama is real. It does a great job of showing you what kind of complexities come from a society spread all across space. The series has some interesting aliens.
I think it was a very entertaining and well written book.
A great read
Loved, loved, love this book. Very original. Kids are gutsy and loyal to each other. Twist and turns. Thoroughly enjoyable. Would love to get the whole series. Hopefully be offering the next one free also.
Thank you for this fantastic read.

Just read through the first five books of the Privateer Tales. I have to insert an update on these books. I have thoroughly enjoyed them. I have laughed and I’ve cried, I’ve been so like in there with them sinking around the pirates or maneuvering around Mars P.
Well written and I say again I loved reading them.
well done. solid world building. unforgettable characters. will continue reading the series.
Easy and fun read.
Rookie Privateer was a pleasure to read! The science is not aligned with our current knowledge, but that simply allows us to think we are smart when we see a disparity. The true smart component of this tale is its ability to hold one’s attention not through suspense, but the joy of an innocent (or at least not in-your-face) story. The characters are developed quite well for this story, and it does exactly what the author intended: it entertains!
If you are looking for a good space adventure. Rookie Privateer is one for those young adults to teens. It about a group of kids. Well one teen that is looking for his future. He is currently stuck working with his father. He know not much to making money.
He seem to attract attention when something happens when he with is friends. What happens then goes not to be an adventure for him and his friend. Liam want freedom will get it? His friend Nick is set up for life. They are becoming Earth Mars Citizens. Someone or something is attacking their home. Will Liam reach the stars or will he not. He and Nick will they find out what the real world has to offer. Things begin to change and it changes them as well.
Find out how this book end. The authors does really well on the plot of this story. It bring you along for the ride. I could not stop reading and wanted more. What will happen to Nick James and Liam Hoffen? I hope to find out more by reading the next book. I just got to find out when it will be out. Great for teens and young adult readers. If you are into space or thrillers this really good for you as well.
This is book one of McFarlane’s privateer series and a great beginning to a most entertaining series it is. Each book in the series is a stand alone and all seem to bring the same exuberance to the page.
bad language
This book violates just about every cliche’ you can use on a book, from formulaic to “space opera”, but it’s so well-written and has such a great plot and characters, none of that matters. This is a great read by Jamie McFarlane. I liked it so much, I bought the entire series. I was not disappointed.
This is the first in a series. They get better and better. This one is only OK, but worth reading for background on the remaining ones.
Only did the first 4 pages. Looks like this is YA stuff
This is a great series. I’ve more or less binge read the 13 books out so far and eagerly await 14 and 15!
certainly wanted to read more
Great stuff. Read this one and most of the books in the series. The Characters are great.
Love the Privateer series by Jamie McFarlane. You can’t go wrong reading this series of books or any of Jamie McFarlane. Great stories and wonderful characters.
Space, Asteroids, Pirates, what more could you want? Great read from a good author.
Loved it!
What a great group of characters on a challenging adventure. I rooted for them and their hot rodding coming of age, quick-witted, knowledgable choices.
