The first novel in a sexy new series featuring the hockey players of the Brooklyn Bruisers and the women who win their hearts—from the USA Today bestselling author of the Ivy Years series. In high school they were the perfect couple—until the day Georgia left Leo in the cold… Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, … trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he’s called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team’s coach—who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers’ sexy, icy publicist—his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington.
Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do—and saying hello again isn’t much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast….

I binged on the entire series in audio. Serena Bowen writes wonderful emotional, sexy contemporary romance. I might even start watching hockey after listening to these.
I really enjoyed this second chance storyline. Leo and Georgia’s connection is strong and electric. Their journey, while emotional at times, is filled with flirty banter and scorching hot chemistry. Loved the start of this new series and can’t wait to read the next one.
Rookie Move is the first book of the Brooklyn Bruisers series, featuring Leo Trevi, a side character from the Ivy Years series. Leo is starting his hockey pro career and has just been transferred to the Brooklyn team, completely unaware that Georgia Worthington, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, already works there as the team’s publicist.
They have a whole lot of history and chemistry, but also a whole lot of awkwardness between them. Leo is determined to win her back, while Georgia is worried about the implications of dating a player given her job. They will need to clear the air and resolve their past issues while also dealing with a bunch of new ones, like the fact that Coach Worthington, Georgia’s father, doesn’t want Leo on the team and would like nothing more than to have him transferred asap.
I love every Sarina Bowen book I have ever read, and this series is just another example of her magic. It’s hockey romance at its best. I specially love the fact that it is linked with the Ivy Years series, sort of a spin-off, and that we finally get Leo’s story. Given the few details we learn in The Fifteenth Minute that relate to Leo’s love life, it is better told in a more mature setting. It’s a beautiful story, both emotional and fun, and flawlessly written.
I love Sarina Bowen’s books because she has an innate talent to create three-dimensional, complex and relatable characters. I love her sense of humor, it permeates her writing in a very unique way and will surely have everyone laughing, even while crying. I specially admire her because she embraces difficult issues and topics rarely addressed in romance, like rape in this case, and does it naturally and with so much sensitivity. Her style of writing is entertaining and emotional, and leaves you thinking in so much more than just a HEA.
While it’s not my favorite story in the series, I still like Georgia and Leo (and the rest of the Bruisers 🙂 ), and I loved seeing them get their second chance. I thoroughly enjoy the world Sarina Bowen has created with the Brooklyn Bruisers “family” (I love all the stories in this series I’ve read so far), and I especially loved the solid friendship between Georgia and Becca.
I am not reading the series in publishing order, but the stories work pretty well as standalones – though it’s fun to not only reconnect with some of my favorite Ivy Years characters (hello, Lianne and DJ!), but also get glimpses of what’s to come later in the series.
Leo and Georgia fell in love in high school, but a tragedy tore them apart and they haven’t seen each other in six years. Leo is now a rookie for the Brooklyn Bruisers which is (you guessed it), the same place that Georgia is a publicist. Will these two find their way back to each other?
I have come to the realization that I love a second chance romance. I love the way the past history between to characters is cut in with what is happening in the present and Sarina Bowen does this so good. Leo is the perfect book boyfriend. He is patient, caring, sweet, kind and let’s face it – he’s a hockey player so of course he’s gorgeous! I also loved Georgia’s strength and how she cares so much. Georgia and her relationship with Becca was also so much fun! Those two are hilarious and I loved their girl times together. But most importantly I loved the chemistry between Georgia and Leo. The small endearments, and the things that they do together (that they always did together), made their relationship even that much more special. Both Leo and Georgia have a lot of baggage and issues they need to work through, but I was rooting for these two to find one another from the very first time they saw each other again! Sarina Bowen’s writing as always is so real and she never sugar coats delicate topics. I felt so much for everyone involved in the aftermath of Georgia’s traumatic experience. Not just Georgia, but her father and Leo too.
I can’t wait to dive back into the world of the Brooklyn Bruisers. If you love a hockey romance with a second chance romance and a lot of heart, pick this book up – you won’t regret it!
4.5 stars! Awesome introduction to the series. Rookie Move was a great read! Entertaining and really sweet.

Note: No formal review at the time but I totally loved this book and series.
*4 Stars*
I finally got around to reading this one by Sarina Bowen. I have quite a few of her books to catch up on, but all the ones I have read so far, I have loved. Particularly her hockey books. So I was keen to get a chance to come back to this one.
I’ve read some of the books further on in this series, so it was nice to read a book that, whilst is actually the first in the series, is still coming back to familiar characters, because all of the secondary characters in this one are characters I know from the other books.
Leo and Georgia were awesome. I did get frustrated at Georgia for not having the best communication with Leo, but these two had a great connection and the chemistry was off the charts. Their past plays such a part in their story, and I think it was really well done with how it was included. I was soooo annoyed with her Dad too, and wanted to know what his deal was. I think where it all came to a head between the three of them was very interesting and well done by Sarina to highlight things the way she did at that particular point of the story.
I really enjoyed this one and I look forward to catching up on more of this series when I get a chance.
Rookie Move was the first book in Sarina’s Brooklyn Bruisers Series. Leo!! He was one of my favorite characters in her Ivy Years Series, so I was super excited to read his story! Loved the tension, humor, and secrecy between them before they got their second chance.
When Leo finally got his spot on a pro hockey team, it should have been the best day of his life. Except that’s not exactly what happened – his new coach hates his guts and the one girl he had been trying to get over walked back into his life. Could he prove that he belonged before it was too late?
Georgia knew she had made a mistake but she was coming to terms with it until she saw him again. Leo was back in her life and he was not backing down. Could she figure out how to forgive herself before she lost him again?
It was an emotional ride reliving Georgia’s story. I couldn’t imagine the thoughts she had and how hard it was for both of them, my heart broke. They both thought they were doing the right thing at the time, thank goodness for second chances! Leo was such a sweet and sexy guy, making sure Georgia was always taken care of!
What a great sports romance – even made me like hockey – no easy task, let me tell you! Sarina Bowen really brings it!
Entertaining
Inspirational hockey story
I’ve enjoyed the whole series.
Loved this one! Leo and Georgia were great characters.
I liked the book but since it is about hockey I didn’t understand why there is a picture of a boxer on the cover.
A slow burning second chance romance. It was fantastic!
Leo and Georgia were high school sweethearts, but Georgia broke up with him on graduation day. She is the PR person for the Brooklyn Bruisers hockey team and the team’s owner, Nate, just brought Leo up from the minors, against the protests of the new coach (Georgia’s dad). They haven’t seen or spoken to each other in 6 years, but the spark is still there. Turns out there were misunderstandings on all levels back then, and they need to work through those before they can get to their happily ever after. So far I haven’t read a Sarina Bowen book I don’t like and this is a very enjoyable beginning to an awesome new series. Nicol Zanzarella and Rock Engle nailed the narrative on the Audible book, too!
Every series I read by this author is fantastic and this one is no different!! I’m a certified fan of the Bruisers and can’t wait to start the rest.
Leo and Georgia was such a great couple. I had such a great time with these two. Rookie Move was a fabulous first book of the Brooklyn Bruisers series which can be read as a standalone.
This second chance romance has all I enjoy in a romance. The rekindling, heat, swoon and humor. Leo is dreamy. The sweetest guy who loves his Gigi. Despite being apart for 6 years after Georgia broke it off their love still runs strong.
I’m excited to read the other books cause after this introduction I just have to.
4 Dumplings Stars
I really enjoyed this book ,the characters were awesome and the loved the hockey world that Sarina Bowen built 🙂
Omg Leo is the perfect guy ! he’s funny and sweet and a total catch ,i loved that he gets a second chance with Georgia ,they we’re high school sweethearts and and they never stopped loving each other and if they had just talked to each other then they might have stayed together ,6 years apart and the moment they see each other again the spark is still there ,i loved that Leo wasn’t gonna give up this time and let Gigi push him away ,they make such a great couple 🙂 i loved that Leo is getting his chance the big pros and is playing for an NHL team ,his dream is coming turn and he ends up with the love of his life 🙂
I really loved Georgia ,she’s strong and fun ,after her rape i think if she had just told Leo how she was feeling then maybe they would have stayed together but she thought he was just to nice to break up with her so she told him she didn’t want to be together anymore ,she regretted it all these years and then she gets another chance at Life with Leo but then he might get traded to a another team and she freaks out and tries to break up with him again but Leo isn’t gonna let that happen ,he’s all in and and Georgia finally see’s that they can make this work 🙂 they were meant to be together 🙂
Loved the side characters and can’t wait to read the next book 🙂 Hunky Hockey Hotties are my favorite type of book boyfriends 🙂
