If you want to stay alive, you better know the rules . . .
Natalia Mayne said, “What’s the first rule?”
“Fear nothing,” I said.
“You have any more?”
“Do unto them before they do unto you.”
“Really?”
”And you don’t owe the truth to people who lie.”
“I’ve never met anybody like you.”
“I’ve heard that before.”

Kind of like Spenser only different. Fun read.
Love James Scott Bell books, but this one wasn’t one of my favorites.
Very good series starter from Bell, who shows why he’s a great writer. Romeo is someone to build a series around, complete with a supporting cast. This book has no chapters, which I found odd at first, but it ended up not mattering. Stopping at the end of a chapter doesn’t matter when you want to keep reading anyway.
Decent series
I had such a great time reading this book and am so looking forward to the next one. Certainly not run of the mill at any stretch!
Interesting premise and great characters. Unusual plot.
One word…..fabulous!
Strange…. Didn’t care for it and didn’t finish it. Not my taste.
The protagonist is a little too intelligent. I grew weary of the Latin “one liners.” However, that being said, it was an interesting book. The book ended with too many open items on my checklist for a well written “whodunnit.” The plot twist was not unexpected, but no logic was applied as to how the tables were turned so unbelievably. This didn’t seem to fit with the super-human intelligence of the hero. I was disappointed by the way the book failed to wrap up. Loved the quirky side kick. Would be interested to have more of his backstory.
Very good read. Jack Reacher like character.
A lot of violent action, most about as plausible as what’s seen in typical action movies today, mixed with philosophical ruminations. If you like that, you’ll probably enjoy this book; the story is OK, the main characters are likable (if not especially credible) and the writing is pretty good. I just prefer my heroes (outside of Marvel Comics) to be a little more believable.
Adequate
Kept me interested
Hard to put down. Great read!!
I was beginning to think I had already read all the good books until I found James Scott Bell. Thanks, bookbub!
Extremely well-written and clever plot.
I liked the book and found Romeo and Juliet engaging character however he takes staying off the grid to the extreme. I feel the ending was a little abrupt and there wasn’t enough building up to it. I was a little surprised that it suddenly ended. I’m hoping the second book isn’t as abrupt.
Stupendous! One of the best books I have ever read.
good read
Noir, quirky and fast-paced, this is a book I did not want to put down. The story has depths that are revealed as the reader gets more and more involved. The author’s pacing and hero reminded me of Robert B Parker’s style.
