In the first in Tessa Dare’s captivating Castles Ever After series, a mysterious fortress is the setting for an unlikely love . . .As the daughter of a famed author, Isolde Ophelia Goodnight grew up on tales of brave knights and fair maidens. She never doubted romance would be in her future, too. The storybooksoffered endless possibilities. And as she grew older, Izzy crossed them off. One by one … older, Izzy crossed them off. One by one by one.
- Ugly duckling turned swan?
- Abducted by handsome highwayman?
- Rescued from drudgery by charming prince?
No, no, and… Heh.
Now Izzy’s given up yearning for romance.
She’ll settle for a roof over her head. What fairy tales are left over
for an impoverished twenty-six year-old woman who’s never even been
kissed?

A story of fandom, cosplay, fanboys and a beauty and a beast. This is just plain fun. The story centers Ransom and Izzy both disillusioned by their past experiences and not huge fans of each other. Between the intelligent banter and the appearances from the fanboys this hits home with me.
This was absolutely charming historical romance. It featured gentle and smart leading lady, grumpy moody duke and witty banter with lots of humor. The pace was steady and the tone of the book was mostly light hearted with a bit of angst coming from both MCs past. I was a bit underwhelmed by the ending. I hoped for something a bit different. But …
Dare always delights with her witty prose. A delightful way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon!
I don’t normally read historical romance… unless it’s by Tessa Dare. I love her writing. I love her characters. But most of all, I just loved this book from start to finish. The heroine is strong, feisty and funny. The hero gives new meaning to the word grumpy. And together they made for wonderful banter and seriously steamy moments. The ending …
What’s original about this book is a story-within-a-story. While Isolde Ophelia Goodnight is an 1800s lady, her father’s Medieval serials of Knights-in-shining-armor and damsels in distress ends up haunting her. When these “fans” show up dressed in costume to protect her, madcap hilarity ensues!
When Isolde Ophelia Goodnight receives a mysterious letter telling her she’s gotten an inheritance, she hopes against all others that it’s funds to get her back on her feet. What she doesn’t expect is to inherit a decrepit castle with an uninvited guest, Ransome, the Duke of Rothbury. The castle is the only thing she has worth anything and when …
This is one of my favorites that I just read again and deserves a review. This time, years later I realized how much I appreciate the wonderful storyline and the strong, vibrant personalities of the main characters. I enjoy the fabulously witty banter between the arrogant and emotionally (& physically) wounded Duke, Ransom, and the kind, …
Romantic, Witty, Tantalizing–everything I love in a historical romance.
I found this Beauty and the Beast retelling absolutely charming. I loved the whole story-within-a-story regarding the romance/fantasy books written by the heroine’s father, who died before he could finish the series. Izzy Goodnight may have been the heroine of The Goodnight Tales, but only she knows it is all a lie and her father wasn’t the …
Normally I wouldn’t go for a book like this, at times it was almost hokey, but you end up loving the main character and her love interest. The fans that ‘cosplay’ in olden times just cracked me up!
I am not sure why it took me so long to read Romancing the Duke, but I absolutely adored this story.
It was charming and sweet and original and did I mentioned I loved it? Because, I did, love it.
Ransom and Izzy were absolutely magical.
This is a well-written, entertaining, fast paced, steamy historical romance novel. It has a touch of humor, a likable, engaging, strong and capable heroine, some twists and turns and a happily ever after ending. I am looking forward to reading the other novels in this series, and I have already started reading the second entry.
Tessa Dare’s books are a delicious escape and the best sort of indulgence. In Romancing the Duke we’re treated to another dose of witty banter that will bring a big smile to your face. And, oh… the way she does the dark, brooding hero. Gets me every time! A fun, lovely story of two broken characters finding each other and becoming whole again.
If you like dark and brooding heroes, quirky heroines with a mind of their own, and animals — especially a feisty ermine — then this romance is a definite read for you! It’s on my “already read but will come back to it again” shelf because Dare is an incredible writer.
I absolutely loved this book. It definitely falls into the category of books that I lose sleep over because I didn’t want to put it down. I selected this book as my historical romance read for the April 2020 Romance Book Reading Challenge I host at She Reads Romance Books. It was SUCH a great pick and has me ready to dive into another historical …
This book has everything- tragic childhoods, scarred alpha, crumbling castle and even regency cosplay.
When Covid19 started, I knew that a historical romance would provide a wonderful escape for me. I’ve never read one of Tessa Dare’s books, and I happened to pick this one. WOW. It’s no wonder she’s a bestseller! ROMANCING THE DUKE has a unique heroine, a sexy wounded hero, and an unforgettable story that had mystery, suspense, and a wonderful love …
First book of Tessa Dare I read. The kind of story that draws you in and makes it hard to put down when it’s time for bed. Great beginning to a wonderful series.
Loved it. Wonderfully clever and witty – her best yet. Had to read some of the funniest bits to my husband as I enjoyed it so much. Went on my All Time Favourites List.
She writes a great story
