An out-of-place writer risking everything to stay. A conflicted cowboy afraid to risk letting her. And one little arrangement about to become more complicated than either bargained for.For romance author Callie Claston, visiting a Texas dude ranch to save her career makes perfect sense. The harebrained idea to romance a veterinarian who thinks sending her into cow patty landmines is the art of … patty landmines is the art of subtlety, however, might qualify her as crazy. Then again, little does he know how much a challenge fuels her. Until it collides with a dream she never expected to be real.
Single dad Reed Allen has at least two reasons—both with smiles just like his—for trying to run off the intriguing city girl hiding a secret. But when he reluctantly agrees to help Callie with her research, knowing he should stay guarded around her does absolutely nothing to prepare him for the moment when he can’t.
Can a writer who’s never found her own ever-after and a cowboy who lost his too soon restore enough faith in love to start a new chapter together?

I have enjoyed every single one of the books this author has written but I have to say this is far and away my favorite. I loved Reed and Callie and how great they are for each other. I loved that they took their time to explore what was going on between them, as well as themselves. Absolutely a great book!
Crystal Walton artfully writes a fun, humorous story of discovering hope and love through faith. Reed is a Cowboy who isn’t looking for love and Callie is a City Girl looking to become a Romance Author. Together with a little help from their friends, they find their own HAE. I really enjoyed taking that journey with them. Romancing the Conflicted Cowboy is a great read and I highly recommend it!
I received an advanced copy at no cost and without obligation from the author.
This book brought out ALL the emotions! I laughed so much at the predicaments Callie found herself in. Growing up on the farm myself, I could clearly envision any one of them happening! That poor city girl didn’t stand a chance against Elvis the rooster LOL!
My heart broke for Reed with the crippling loss in his past, and for Callie never knowing what unconditional love was. Two souls like theirs were meant to be together especially since they understand the pain the other went through and how it shaped them into what they are today.
Crystal Walton did an amazing job keeping this story raw and real while intertwining humor and fun and family into it. My favorite quote from the book was, “Love isn’t meant to be reserved. It’s meant to forgive, to heal, and if you let it, to help you find the courage to begin again.” Well written, Crystal, well written!
I received an advance copy of this book from the author, but all opinions in this review are my own.
In Romancing the Conflicted Cowboy, we come across a few interesting characters. We have a woman who’s an author of romance books and yet hasn’t really experienced true romance, and we meet a young dad who is grieving the loss of his wife. Each of them, are trying the best they can to just move on, but fate falls into their paths and things start to get interesting.
This story by Crystal Walton is a bit different from her other books, yet it still holds lots of life lessons for us.
We feel the loneliness and low self-esteem on Callie’s part, never feeling like she is good enough. She struggles with believing in herself and her skills.
Then we have Reed, who is struggling with a loss so deep, he just wants to push it away. He comes to realize, he has lost himself along the way. He’s crushed any life he and his girls could have because of his fears. It takes a crazy chicken, a pregnant horse, and a couple of caring friends to help them each see what they are missing.
I was given this book by the author for an honest review, all opinions are my own.
Callie struggles with writers block so she takes a trip out of the city, into the heart of the country to see if that will help her find the romance for her books again. Reed the local vet agrees to let her shadow him on the job. Very well written clean romance with characters you can’t help but root for!
Awesome book Awesome Writer
This book reminded me of a Hallmark movie, only better. (Funny side note: As I was thinking it, the book mentioned Hallmark movies.) There is a city girl who goes to “the country” to find inspiration for her writing. There is a brooding hero who needs to learn to love again after his wife’s death. There are funny moments and romantic moments. There are likable characters and good life lessons. All in all, this is an easy read that will allow you to escape to Sage Valley Ranch for a few hours.
Great Beginning
When you a romance author but have never actually felt it and it’s based on a cowboy, well you should la k a bag and spend a week with your best friend at a dude ranch. That’s what Callie and her best friend Trisha did. Her parents don’t believe she can write so that doesn’t help. Reed lost his wife during a storm and he is raising his two girl’s with the help of her mother in law. But something clicks with them.
A quick entertaining read with wonderful characters! A totally enjoyable read!
Crystal Walton has packed a lot of story into this delightful novella. The main characters, Callie and Reed, are well-drawn and endearing, while the secondary characters, including Elvis the rooster, add charm and fun to the story. Walton’s characteristic wit and humor are sprinkled throughout the pages and make this another delicious read. Themes of forgiveness, hope, and overcoming fear give added depth. I’m looking forward to more stories from this author.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
I loved this book! Second chances for a romance writer and for the handsome vet! Made me laugh out loud, tear up a bit and have all the feels!
Callie is striking out on her own with a past that was hard for her to trust and the Vet at the Dude Ranch, Reed, has his own past that he struggles to let go and keep living. The sparks fly and Callie gets into some hilarious predicuments that have you laughing.
You can’t help but start rooting for Reed and Callie but both must deal with their past before they can believe in second chances.
I was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest review.
I loved this book! It has some seriously comical events, some that pull at your heart strings and some totally swoon-worthy. Highly recommend!
New romance writer and city girl Callie Claston agrees to a vacation at a Texas dude ranch with her best friend Trish for inspiration and to write an article about romancing a cowboy in seven days. Trish encourages her to set her sights on the local veterinarian Reed Allen. He doesn’t want her there and tries to scare her away by giving her awful tasks that could have seen her seriously hurt. But then he sees her vulnerable side and she meets his adorable daughters. After losing his wife three years ago, Reed is afraid to open his heart to love again and when he finds out their budding romance is fake it could be over before it even starts. There was plenty of humor in this opposites attract romance.
Awesome book!
It’s a good clean story, with characters that are easy to relate to, pages so easy to turn it made me late for work and had me laughing out loud. Set out west on a dude ranch, the story pulls you right in.
This sweet read applied humor, healing, and romance to two unsuspecting hearts. Despite its short length, this novella delved into the characters’ past hurts and regrets and still provided an authentic happily ever after (which is what every romance fan is rooting for, right?!) I loved the author’s use of critters with quirky personalities and endearing young girls who love big.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions expressed are my own.
A book about a romance author, cowboys, and Texas sounds like the perfect book to me. Add in great characters, fun banter, heartache, and dancing at the Two Step and I fell in love with Sage Valley, Texas.
The incident where Callie and Reed first meet with the help of Elvis the rooster is hilarious and so are the antics Reed uses to get Callie to not want to shadow his job anymore. Both Callie and Reed need to move forward but they will both need to open their hearts and not hold back.
I am glad there are four more books in this new series by five different authors. This is the first book I have read by Crystal Walton and I thoroughly enjoyed it and want to read more books by her. I also hope there is another book about some of the other characters in this story or a sequel for Callie and Reed. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
