1891 . . . Spinster librarian, Olive Wilkins, is shocked to learn of her brother’s violent death at a saloon gaming table and her sister-in-law’s subsequent murder, traveling far from her staid life to rescue her niece and nephew, now orphans. She arrives to find the circumstances of her brother’s life deplorable and her long held beliefs of family and tradition, shaken. Accustomed to the … the sophistication of Philadelphia, Olive arrives in Spencer, Ohio, a rough and tumble world she is not familiar with, facing two traumatized children. Her niece and nephew, Mary and John, have been living with a neighboring farmer, widower Jacob Butler, the father of three young children of his own and a man still in pain from the recent loss of his wife.
Real danger threatens Olive and Mary and John while Jacob and his own brood battle the day-to-day struggles for survival. Will Olive and Jacob find the strength to fight their battles alone or together? Will love conquer the bitterness of loss and broken dreams?

Life was not easy for so many! Good story!!
I really loved this book. A May/September romance with excitement a little violence that was necessary to the story, a love in Olive that is now expressed in her care and love of her brother’s children and a growing love for a man younger than her. her ability to adapt and build a home in tragic circumstances leads the reader on an inspirational journey with a happy ending.
Great book. Loved that she found love .
Very good read. Drew me into the world of the characters. They are all developed nicely, personalities are believable for the time period.
Good character development. Always good when the older woman gets the man.
A woman’s summer read
nice quick read that was believable
This was definitely a PG romance. It was a sweet read. I did enjoy it especially seeing how she ended up changing (for the better) to ensure she was the woman that those children needed.
Romancing Olive (Prairie Romance, #1) by Holly Bush –Nice western! Olive was a really sweet Cinderella with grit. When she realizes that her father and brother have been lying to her for her entire life and her niece and nephew are in intolerable turmoil, she doesn’t welsh out. You have to love a lady who sees the worst and decides to do her best to fix it. Olive was a serious cougar but it came across as reasonable. I enjoyed it! Happy Reading!
Don’t own this book
I’d have given this a 5 Star Rating, had it not been for the sexual content of the book; I don’t enjoy those scenes in novels and wished I’d known about it beforehand. Other than that.
The plot was original with good characters and story was entertaining albeit very tragic. But all’s well that ends well, and I’d recommend this read!
I would have given this book a five star rating but for the language and explicit sexual content. I choose to read Christian fiction so that I will not encounter these, and I was disappointed to find them in a book defined as such.
