From #1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn comes the story of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, in the fourth of her beloved Regency-set novels featuring her charming, powerful Bridgerton family, now a series created by Shondaland for Netflix.
COLIN AND PENELOPE’S STORY
Penelope Featherington has secretly adored her best friend’s brother for . . . well, it feels like … her best friend’s brother for . . . well, it feels like forever. After half a lifetime of watching Colin Bridgerton from afar, she thinks she knows everything about him, until she stumbles across his deepest secret . . . and fears she doesn’t know him at all.
Colin Bridgerton is tired of being thought of as nothing but an empty-headed charmer, tired of the notorious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, who can’t seem to publish an edition without mentioning him. But when Colin returns to London from a trip abroad, he discovers nothing in his life is quite the same—especially Penelope Featherington! The girl who was always simply there is suddenly the girl haunting his dreams. When he discovers that Penelope has secrets of her own, this elusive bachelor must decide . . . is she his biggest threat— or his promise of a happy ending?

Loving this series and am being very bad and reading the books out of order. Why? Because I couldn’t resist reading Penelope and Colin’s story! This book is a slow burn, friends to lovers romance. I enjoyed watching smart and sassy Penelope get her happily ever after with the man she has loved since forever. And now, I shall attempt to be a good girl and read the rest of tge series in numerical order – I hope.
This book was so entertaining! Penelope has secrets-Colin, who she has loved from afar for years, has secrets! How they come together to solve their differences is what we all might want!
Anything Julia Quinn writes is excellent. This book is part of the Bridgerton series. By all means read for your enjoyment
Romancing Mister Bridgerton was so incredibly witty and entertaining with the best characters. Colin and Penelope had a fantastic story. From the moment they met to their happily ever after I was totally invested.
I only gave it 4 stars because, even though she was a strong heroine, he could do no wrong in her eyes! I understand she’s been in love with him forever – but really!
To be honest, I wasn’t that curious with this story and maybe that’s the reason why it was one of my least favorite book from the series.
I really liked Colin and Penelope in the other books but in their own I felt like it was something missing.
Overall it’s still a good story but I’m sad because I really wanted to loved this book and I just couldn’t.
Colin has been one of my favorite supporting characters as I have been reading through the series. I was so excited to get to his story but I felt that the story did not focus on him as much as I was hoping. I did like the chemistry between he and Penelope plus their support for each other. Overall I am loving this series and family!
I loved Penelope’s story. She is funny, witty, highly intelligent, but not self-confident, having been the wallflower at every ‘ton’ party since her debut almost twelve years earlier. We always knew her true love was Colin Bridgerton, but watching him actually seeing Pen for the first time after knowing her for twelve long years was lovely.
And there is a delicious irony that Colin notices about himself; the third Bridgerton, the charmer, the most popular of all the Bridgerton men, famed for his confidence and self-assurance, only finds his life’s path through his wife, the wallflower with the biggest secret of all.
A delightful and delicious read.
Of all the Bridgerton books, this is the one I most wanted to re-read, mostly because the TV series has made me highly invested in Penelope’s happiness all over again. (she is just, the best, the best of all of them).
Colin is at times frustrating, going through his 30-something male identity crisis, but watching him realise how great Penelope is (FINALLY) and then work so hard on telling everyone else how great she is is pretty awesome. Penelope is just glorious all the way through, even when keeping secrets from the reader (cheeky) as well as her family, and her best friend. Watching a former wallflower come into her own, with romance/marriage only one element of that (possibly the least important compared to her other personal successes in this book) is deeply satisfying.
Also, for those who love Lady Danbury in the TV series, this one has just, so much of her. JUST SO MUCH.
I enjoy the Bridgerton Series following the Netflix show and have read 4 of the 8 books in the series since watching the show. I will probably read all 8 books.
Well, let me start by saying this is the first book I read in this series. I’ve watched the netfilx series Bridgerton and did really enjoy it – I didn’t love it, but really, really enjoyed it and was intrigued what is happening to all the characters in the series; especially Penelope. So when Romancing Mister Bridgerton was on sale I just had to buy it, and I did not regret it! (especially because I’ve read more books in this series by now… just in the wrong order).
Well, I really loved reading Penelope and Colin’s story. It is so sweet and lovely, I couldn’t help but fall helplessly in love with Penelope, Colin and their beautiful love story. It is definitely an amazing book with great story building and it is very well written. I really loved Romancing Mister Bridgerton, it is definitely a new and fascinating story; a new favourite of mine.
Colin and Penelope’s love story was so quirky and fun! Lady Danbury as “Miss Matchmaker” played a very vital role in their romance with her nudges and the tapping of her cane .
In this book, Julia Quinn discloses the identity of Lady Whistledown.
My favorite thus far.
My boys still chuckle that I got into this series because of Netflix. I admit that if a movie comes out based on a book, I’m likely to read the book before seeing the movie. Again, my boys will chuckle if I get mad that my favorite scenes from the book don’t make it onto the screen. Ah well. We all have our foibles.
With every book in this series, I am falling more and more in love with the Bridgerton clan. From Violet to Hyacinth, they make me oohh, aahh, and laugh. I am loving how this family works together.
Miss Penelope, is a bit of a complicated character. She can be strong, but she’s has her failings in dealing with her childhood nemesis.
I liked how the author draws these two characters together. Colin is kind of a flake in that he uses his travels to escape the London season and his mother’s matchmaking attempts. I liked that it took him a moment to realize his attraction.
I kind of felt sorry for Cressida. In her attempt to marry wealth, she ended up an impoverished widow, having been fooled by her late husband’s claims of wealth. I liken her to so many young girls today, who get with a guy because they think he’s going places, only to be left by the wayside while the guy either succumbs to drugs, ends up in jail, or leaves them for the next chick to come along.
Anyway, I am looking forward to the next Bridgerton tale. I hope the series continues. It’s really fun to see an enjoyable book come to life.
This is book 4 in the series and can be read as a stand alone but if you read the first 3 you get to know everyone.
This book is about the wallflower Penelope Featherington was not your average Society girl she made her Debut when she was 17 and was a little over weight . Her mother had horrible taste in clothing. Although she was smart Whitt and loved to dance she did not have the same looks as the other girls and there for became the wallflower. Now she had a crush on one Colin Bridgeston . He was charming and knew just what to say plus he always had a dance for her. But Penelope didn’t get any suitors.
Colin was very handsome charming and had an itch to travel he was very loyal to his family . His mother made him and his brothers dance with Penelope. He knew his mother had a soft spot for her but he simply didn’t want to be settled down.
As the years go by the two firm a friendship due to her being his sisters best friend. There are a few parts in the book where the Notorious Mrs whistledown writes stories about Colin and more people that give you insight .Colin returns home after being gone on me off for 10 years Pen is considered an old maid or not marriage material. He starts to talk to her as he has noticed she moves around with out a maid . As the two gain more of a friend ship feeling enter on his part since she has been in love with him for years. He starts to wonder if he is missing out and if maybe he should marry. Mean while Mrs Whistledown retired and starts a whole new search. But you will have to read to find out who she is. This book is a sweet story of two people who were friends who become lovers. Very well written book .
What should be the most pivotal Bridgertons book yet, ends up a little… lackluster. Throughout the series, we haven’t known the identity of Lady Whistledown, but that all changes in this story. We not only learn her identity, but get an inside glimpse into her life, thoughts, experiences, and reasons for why she writes about the ton the way she does. This story focuses on Colin who started out my favorite Bridgerton son, yet we discover he’s not quite the perfect footloose & fancy free debutant we originally viewed him to be. He’s quite possibly the most insecure of all the men and it ended up being more than a letdown. I’m happy he finds his happily ever after; but the journey to get there simply wasn’t the magical romance we’d been hoping for. In the end, it works out, but by then, I couldn’t wash out the sour taste in my mouth from it all. I really really want to enjoy these stories that inspired such a great Netflix series, but all I end up hoping is that the series continues to take the building blocks from the books and continues to build something greater than they started.
Colin is the best Bridgerton and I will not be accepting any other opinions at this time. I have loved him since The Duke And I and have been eagerly awaiting his book and it lived up to my expectations. And Penelope! Oh how much I adored Penelope and her friendship with Eloise is a real shining point of the book. In truth I loved every single aspect of this book and it made me ridiculously happy. I don’t know how any other books in this series can live up to this one, but I’m excited to see them try.
I read this book years ago. Awesome story.
The book is better than the series.
I love the whole series
I couldn’t wait for Penelope to get her happily-ever-after, she’s a perfect cinnamon roll and I love her cameos in the previous books, even as they made my heart break for her a little. I love a friends to lovers vibe, a shared history, and this one was so good. I think Colin’s change of feelings was a little abrupt, and I didn’t like how the plot of hunting for Lady Whistledown played out
