He’ll Never See It Coming… I don’t care if he’s trying to be nice to me. It’s only because he needs my help…
And I am going to help him. Or at least, I’ll pretend for a while…
I’ll get close to him.
I’ll learn all his secrets.
And then I’ll destroy him…
“Roman” is a bully mafia romance, Book 3 in the Underworld series. It’s an intense, violent, and sexually charged stand-alone novel. Complete with HEA and no cliff-hangers, plus enough steamy scenes to set your kindle on fire!
The Lark Notes:
My first bully-lite romance. This one takes a minute to get going but Roman and Mila come together hard… – Sophiemore
Roman and Mila’s story was such a fun read that I loved every second of it. This is the second book I’ve read by this author and I have really enjoyed everyone I’ve read. In this book we get classic high bullying when Mika finds herself the center of Roman’s hatred. Roman is a mafia prince and he has weird attraction that turns towards hate so it makes him act out and treat her terribly all through high school. Once they grow up and run into each other again years later things haven’t changed and the anger is still there but now they have to work together. Eventually the anger Roman has turns to attraction, then chemistry, then possessiveness and his need to have Mila grows stronger. Mila tried hard not to see any good in Roman because of their past and she tries hard to fight their chemistry but it’s impossible so now they have to navigate a new dynamic to their relationship while trying to learn to trust each other amid chaotic events. Such a great story with lots of action, hot steamy moments, and a love so fiercely possessive.
She’s done it again!!
It goes without saying that Sophie Lark has done it once again…INK is a hit in my book, another 5 star, well written, well thought out story that I did not want to end. At one point, I actually looked ahead to count the number of remaining pages and then tried to slow down the pace of my reading to make them last longer! But, that didn’t work. I ended up devouring each page as quickly as possible, like forbidden treats that will be taken away. I stayed up well past 3 in the morning just to finish this book so I could find out what happened!
Ms. Lark’s talent and ability to convey her thoughts clearly and with great style, as well as her gift to weave an interesting, complex and captivating tale are undeniable to anyone who has read one of her novels. That being said, acknowledging her talents takes nothing away from the fact that she has a great work ethic which ensures that each and every detail in her novels are painstakingly researched for accuracy and authenticity. Her descriptions are so colorful and true-to-life that the reader is immersed in the subtlety and nuance of the rich cultures and backgrounds of her protagonists as well as the magnificence of some landmark locations in Paris like the Palais Garnier where the 350th Anniversary of the Paris Opera actually took place! Moreover, Ms. Lark demonstrates a true facility for the Russian and French languages which she peppers throughout this novel and several other books involving the Russian mob. And, if this weren’t enough to tantalize her readers, she begins select chapters of every novel with a quotation appropriate to the content of that chapter. These quotations show how well read Ms. Lark is and the eclectic nature of her knowledge base.
Ink is the story of Mila and Roman, who have hated one another since Mila transferred into a very posh and exclusive high school in Russia where Roman bullied and ridiculed Mila every day of their attendance. Roman is the son of the most powerful Parisian Bratva family, who openly flaunts arrogance, contempt, and an air of entitlement over Mila. Mila did not want to transfer to this school, but her mother insisted that she do so. Mila’s family, although quite comfortable at one time, has lost everything to one of the St. Petersburg Bratva bosses and struggle to make ends meet. The story takes place five years later in Paris where newly hired Mila must write an article about Roman, the boss of the Parisian Bratva family following his father’s murder, who is building a new hotel/casino. Roman is struck by the beautiful, sexy and smart woman Mila has become and decides to pursue her aggressively. Mila loathes Roman for all the horrific things he did to her at school and decides to use this assignment to avenge all those wrongs she endured at his hands. She will expose him as the corrupt, ruthless, Mafia boss she believes him to be. There is only one problem, Mila is completely incapable of resisting the physical connection between the two of them, and Roman takes full advantage of that fact! I will not spoil the rest of the story which includes Roman’s most hated enemy pursuing Mila, his possessiveness and jealousy, a political conspiracy among local officials, arson, and some of the steamiest scenes Ms. Lark has written. I promise you that once you start reading this page-turner, you too will understand why there is nothing unreasonable about staying awake until 3 in the morning to finish this book!

Roman is intense and this character demands attention. Being one of the heads of the Bratva you would expect drastic underhanded dealings. You will get drama for sure but nothing too crazy happens which makes sense as Roman and his familwanting go clean. You will get drama in many parts of the story which will keep you hooked from beginning to end. The only thing I didnt care for was the ending. It felt so simple and just plain underdeveloped compared to the complexity of the story.

Sophie Lark has done it again with another great addition to the Colors of Crime series. Although the books can be read as a standalone there are a few characters that overlap between the books. Full of action, suspense, romance, lust and Bratva whats not to like. Following the story of Roman the new (joint) head of the Paris Bratva along with his sister Violet and brother-inlaw Anton. A chance meet with Mila a blast from the past that they both could deal without leads to simmering romance, but at what price. A great story plot that is well written with great characters.

In private school, there is one spoiled arrogant mean Bratva Prince, Roman, who is antagonizing and antagonized by one smart sassy beauty, Mila, and they hate each other. Both of their young lives soon suffer awful family hardships that mature them. When they meet again Roman tries to control his habitual nastiness to Mila but finally realizes that there is more to his feelings, he not only likes Mila but he desires Mila. Now every time they have a confrontation Roman loses control and ends up with Mila against a wall and I have to say these sexy scenes are so well written and hotter than a 3 alarm FIRE!! WOW! I love this up and down story and could not put it down because it is so UNPREDICTABLE. Another Sophie Lark hit. I lOVE this series. Linda
