Love shouldn’t hurt… at least, that’s what everyone tells me. But when I’m with Ash? Not only does it hurt… but I beg for more.Ash Livingston is Hollywood’s bad boy A-list director. I’m Hollywood’s hardest working unknown costume designer just starting out in the industry. A nobody… but I’m nobody with a big secret.Never in a million years did I think he’d be my boss.Never in a million … boss.
Never in a million years did I think I’d learn about the man beneath the persona.
Never in a million years did I think I’d fall in love with him.
I might be unknown… but when I’m with Ash, I feel seen. I feel heard. I’m somebody. Even if it is all just role play.

Role Play by Katana Collins is an erotic, contemporary, new adult, forbidden, age gap romance told in dual POV. Although it is the second book in the Silhouette Studios series, it can be read as a complete standalone.
I’ll begin by stating that I don’t typically read BDSM – it’s just not my thing. Going in, I had no idea this contained a BDSM story because the blurb didn’t reveal it. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised. I’m happy that I won an ARC because I’m not sure I would have ended up reading this otherwise.
Ash Livingston is a 31-year-old widower, director, and Dom with a playboy reputation. He is working at Silhouette Studios on his first major motion picture, a BDSM introspection. When his boss, Richard, reviews some of the early shots and feels they are lacking, he suggests that Ash train a submissive in order to gain perspective.
Luciana Rodriguez is an introverted, 22-year-old, college graduate working in wardrobe at her first job on a movie set. Her uncle, Richard, is CEO of Silhouette Studios and got her the job. But Lucy is determined to keep their relationship hidden in order to work her way up like everybody else. She’s also secretly interested in exploring BDSM.
Ash and Lucy have an instant attraction and undeniable chemistry. He is very intrigued by her and drawn to her – and the feeling is mutual. But not only is there a non-fraternization policy at work but Lucy is Ash’s boss’s niece. Despite the reasons to stay away from each other, they enter into a contract for him to train her as a submissive.
Both Ash and Lucy have been broken by events in the past, and being together forces their issues to the surface. Can they survive facing their demons? Or will they be damaged beyond repair? You’ll need to read the book to find out.
I really enjoyed this story. The focus wasn’t all about the kink, though it certainly played a role. It was a beautifully written, character-driven story overflowing with so much depth and emotion. A touching tale about self-discovery and the internal and external struggles along the journey to healing. About falling in love and learning to trust.
Incredibly moving, passionate, heartbreaking, hopeful, sensual and sweet – this story had all the feels. I totally loved it! This is the first book I’ve read by the author, and it definitely won’t be the last.
*** I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC. ***
Role Play is the second book of the Silhouette Studios series by Katana Collins. This book can be read independently as a standalone but spoilers but minor spoilers are in this one.
Luciana Blair Rodriguez is in her own words, a plain Jane. She is a quiet introvert who just wants to work her way to the top. Although her uncle is a great influence on the set, she has made it abundantly clear that she does not want special treatment. Everything seems to be going ok until she crosses paths with the director, Ash.
Ash is a Dominant, a broken man trying to live his life in his own little miserable world. When his movie isn’t conveying the emotions necessary, the owner of the studios suggests that he train a new sub. Little does he know how much that suggestion will change his life.
I am a new-ish reader of Katana and instantly feel in love with her writing style in Call Back. This story blew me away. She has a way of making the women in her stories strong. They aren’t these weaklings that just can’t live without the men and I love that about her. Lucy has her share of baggage that she has to overcome, but throughout the entire story she holds firm to her believers and forces him to choose his path. The story is a tear- jerker for sure, but definitely worth it. I highly recommend this novel. It is witty and glamorous and gives is a behind the scenes look of what happens on set that we don’t get to see.
-enjoy
This story is about 2 damaged people coming together to help one another and end up making a perfect couple in their own way. Loved this super hot, intense and emotional read. Do yourself a favour and pick up this boom you will fall on love with Ash and Lucy and will definitely not be disappointed. Can’t wait to read more from Katana!!
Ash knows this movie is everything, so when Richard suggests it’s missing something, he knows he’s going to have to take his advice and interview Subs about their entry into the lifestyle, and dominants who have trained subs. Him training a sub was definitely not happening that needed an intimacy that he hadn’t had since losing Brie.
No one knew that Lucy was the boss’s niece and she wanted to keep it that way. When she saw Asher, she knew he was hot, but realised it wasn’t just his looks, but he had a reputation, he liked women a lot and she was focused on her career. After seeing what her mother went through, she promised herself, never to be like her mother and never be with someone controlling or abusive.
The more Lucy learns about BDSM she realises that she wouldn’t be breaking her promises, and she wants Ash, but what happens when he finds out who her uncle is.
Ash realised that for the first time in five years he wanted to own a woman and he wanted Lucy.
Can they heal each others wounds or will they tear them apart again.
Meet Ash and Lucy, the next couple featured in the Silhouette Studios Series.
Ash is a self-proclaimed daredevil, risk taker and completely unflappable. He will do whatever it takes to gain perspective in directing his current film. Having lost his wife almost five years ago, he wears her ring as a talisman. Don’t get it twisted, he’s out there mixing it up and very active when it comes to sex. But intimacy? Well.. that’s another story altogether.
Lucy… I gotta pause and say she is one of the most likable characters I’ve come across in a while. Sweet, soon to grad, and working on a film set for the first time, with a little help from a not to be mentioned family member. Can she pull it off? Can she stop herself from being drawn into all that is Ash? Lucy only has two rules; Never act pathetic and never be with a controlling and dominating man.
It’s a sexy juxtaposition of kink and self-preservation. A sexual war with a contract keeping them in play. I loved every moment. Role Play is exactly what I’ve come to expect from author Katana Collins; A enjoyable mix of sultry kinky f*ckery wrapped in love.
This is the second book in the Silhouette Studios series by Katana Collins. This story features Ash and Lucy who you will fall in love with by the end. This story like the last has an amazing storyline with a dom that you can’t help but wish was yours lol. This story has a lot of emotions in that will lead you on a rollercoaster for your own emotions so hang on. This can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading it in order as there are spoilers.
I had been waiting to see if Katana would be coming out with another book for her Silhouette Studios series and I was so excited when I saw Role Play on the list of releases! This story did not disappoint. I loved it!
In Role Play, we get the director of the movie Ash’s story. He was such an ass in Callback that I had hoped we would get an account of his love affair. Moreover, what a story it is. He has such a sad history that he takes it out on all the woman he takes to bed. No emotion is allowed to enter his heart at all. He picks women he can have one night stands with and that he knows there is no future. However, when he meets the new girl Lucy there is just something about her, that he has to know.
Lucy is young and working at the studio so that she can get away from her way overbearing mother. When her uncle gives her a job, she never thought she would catch the eye of the director. Everyone warns her that he has no heart and that if he wants her, he will stop at nothing to get her, but then it will be over.
Can these two find a happy ever after?
ARC for honest review with no compensation
Role Play is book 2 of the Silhouette Studios by Katana Collins and what a well written addition.
Ash and Lucy both have past demons that challenges their relationship on so many levels. There are lots of twists, turns, steamy scenes and so emotional…can these two find their way to a HEA??
Can’t wait for more books in this series!
After reading the first book, Callback, I had high expectations for this book. For the most part, I did enjoy reading more about Ash and Lucy, but I didn’t really get the Dom/Submission part. Based on Lucy’s past, I found it hard to correlate her enjoyment of some of the aspects of it. I did like that even though Kelly (a past lover of Ash’s) first off as a bi**h, she and Lucy found common ground and became friends. That was kind of refreshing. Sometimes I thought that Ash came off kind of an a**hole, in the end, he redeemed himself. I would still recommend this book as Ms Collins’ writing has an easy flow that many authors don’t achieve.
4.5 stars for me
We met Ash in book 1 in the series and I admit I had preconceived ideas of who he was. This book blew them away. He’s a broken guy, a dominant guy, and at times a super sweet guy. I loved his connection with Lucy. Her innocence called to him. The kink in this one was great and felt genuine. They both have pasts they’ve not let go of & that plays a huge role in their relationship. Their growth and chemistry felt real and I was so very happy with how the story ended. Great read.

In Role Play, the second book in the Silhouette Studio series by Katana Collins, we get to meet Ash and Lucy. What pulled me in is that their story was way more than the BDSM world. These characters have depth to them and they have a history/past that seems to haunt them.
Ash Livingston has gotten his first chance at being the director of a possible award-winning movie!! Lucy is just breaking into the movie scene as a costume assistant.
I like how Ash and Lucy both have a past. There is this attraction between them that jumps off the pages and is undeniable. They have both tried to ignore it but they are unable to. They are thrown into an impossible situation when they are asked to be stand-ins for the movie Ash is directing. It can push a person to their limits and make or break you. This can lead to new territory.
The dual point of views gave me all the feels because we got to be in each character’s heads.
4.4 stars
This is the second story in the Silhouette Studios series and it can be read as a standalone. Ash is working on directing his first major film and there are some challenges. The main actor playing the lead is not coming across well and the script needs some tweaking. The head of the studio is on his back and making suggestions to improve the situation. As a Dom, this does not sit will with Ash but change can be a good thing. Lucy is a woman working on the set when she bumps into Ash. Although she comes across as timid, there is a depth to her and she knows what she wants. The chemistry between the two is sizzling and like Ash, she has things in her past that haunt her. Can these two come together and finally heal? This is one witty, steamy and emotional read.
Lucy is an aspiring costume designer and to be working with Ash Livingston. Ash is an A-List Hollywood director and well known dominant. He lost his wife five years ago and is a playboy. Lucy is curious about BDSM and also attracted to Ash. Ash can’t get Lucy off his mind. I enjoyed the story but the OW drama could have been left out. All in all a good read.
I have been waiting for this book from the moment I finished Callback and I was not disappointed at all. Ash and Lucy are perfectly imperfect characters who are meant for each other. Ash is the director of the film and Lucy is the costume assistant and they meet while working together. Even though there is a no fraternization clause in effect the chemistry between them is combustible and cannot be denied. There are many ups and downs and twists and turns to this love story and it definitely does not go in a straight line or anywhere close to normal but every bump in the road leads them to where they need to be. I was captivated right from the beginning and found it hard to put down. This is not a light story nor is it a quick read, it is quite lengthy but it is well worth every minute, every gasp, every tear shed with them. Thank you Katana for a wonderful experience!
I received an ARC in return for an honest review. Wow! That was HOT! Ash can be my Dom anytime! I felt like I was Lucy and was waiting for Ash to let me climax too!! It was amazing in the end how much more they would have related to each other if they would have just opened up about their pasts. Either way, this story was so good! Kudos Katana Collins!
Role Play is the 2nd book of the Silhouette Studios series by Katana Collins. Ash and Lucy are the next couple who are featured as the main characters. After reading Ash in Callback, I was glad his book was next.
Ash is a Dom, one who really is a broken man trying to live life in his own little miserable bubble. When the movie he is working on isn’t conveying the emotions that is necessary, the owner of the studios suggests that he train a new sub. One suggestion that will end up changing his life for he ends up meeting Lucy and she is the light into his dark. Lucy is shy, nerdy, quiet yet she is beautiful in ways that count. Lucy has her own demons that she has been fighting. Can these two broken souls mend and be one whole ? Without giving anything away, this is a story that will have you reaching for tissues and alternatively fans. The heat level in this book is HOT!!! Ash and Lucy have some insane chemistry together. But can they fix each other’s ills and still remain together while breaking free from the past to begin anew together or will they break apart from the pressures and due to the past? I found Ash and Lucy’s story had me glued together until the last and the HEA gave me a huge book hangover.
My Rating: 4.5 stars *****
Ash’s story does not disappoint. Hollywood’s #1 director, and he knows how to be a bad boy. But what happens behind closed doors, well who wouldn’t beg for more. Lucy is just starting out as a costume designer in Hollywood. So what happens when doors are closed and it only becomes the two of them? Will Lucy end up with the biggest heartbreak? Or will love win out?
This is the second book in Silhouette Studio series, and I would read book one, as that starts the series and gives you kind of a low down on everyone and is in fact the start of the movie that they are working on in this book. Lucy is the new person on board, so low man on the totem pole. When she and Ash the director, and her boss end up having that spark, they both have reasons for ignoring it. Ash is notorious for being a playboy, but he keeps his feelings tightly wrapped up and at the first sign that the other person is starting to feel any feelings, he will end the arrangement quickly. Something about Lucy makes him want to try to be better, to try for a relationship, but he just can’t let the past go. Lucy has her own demons that she battles, and for her diving into the BDSM scene brings up issues that stem from her childhood. The two are at an impasse, will each be able to get what they need?
So, lets break this down, as a romance I found this to be a really good story. The two having their issues and trying to overcome the past. Ash moving on from his wife and how Lucy deals with that. I actually really liked that and wanted more from the two after they found their way back to each other. As a BDSM story, this is a fail. I’m a huge fan of the genre and this completely fell flat for me. I didn’t think Ash was a good Dom and Lucy was nowhere near what a submissive should be… there is a difference between liking a good spanking and being a sub. This did have some good naughty bits, but just like with book one, I felt that for the characters to be starting off, things just jumped way too quickly. Seeing as I did like the side story more, I will give this 4 stars, but that is no way reflecting the BDSM element that just wasn’t there.
Sign me to Role Play for Ash Livingston anytime! OMG I needed a cold shower & a stiff drink after reading this book.
It is sexy, hot, steamy, angsty & such an emotional story that I fell for hard.
I enjoyed the dynamics and insight on the world of BDSM from Ash Livingston’s point of view.
Lucy is a girl after my own heart with her spunky, bratty ways.
I liked how she teaches herself as well as Ash who she wants to be.
This book was heartfelt as well.
Go get this book and fall in love with Ash’s & Lucy’s story.
I could not wait for Ash’s story after meeting him in Callback. I knew that guy had some deep, emotional issues making him so…rough around the edges. Ms. Collins did not disappoint. This book was amazing!
Thinking of Ash & Lucy’s story makes my heart beat a little bit faster. It’s full of emotions that sent me swirling through all sorts of pain and pleasure and heartache and lust and letting go and learning and then loving again. I loved every minute of it.
Their story was an emotional one.
An intense one.
And most definitely, scorching.
Their connection is strong, their chemistry blazing hot.
Ash…so very smart and talented, yet vulnerable with so much to learn. And so much to let go.
Lucy…knows what she wants.
She won’t ever let anyone have control.
But with Ash, is she willing to hand it over?
They’re drawn to each other.
They learn from each other.
They need each other.
The talented writing of this author blows me away. Ms. Collins showed me Ash & Lucy’s story. I saw everything. I felt everything.
If you loved Callback, I highly recommend Role Play. This was a fabulous addition to the Silhouette Series!
