His heart has been turned to stone… her safely home. He can’t wait to drop the little princess off and be done with her forever.
Matthew Sinclair is a heathen and a rake, a degenerate and a lout. She’d keep going but why waste her breath? He does nothing but sneer and brood and act as though it was her fault their ship wrecked on rocks and his precious schedule was interrupted. Can she help it that she nearly died as her father shipped her off like an unwanted sack to her English relatives? She will be so glad when this entire ordeal is over.
Except when another storm hits with a vengeance, she can admit one thing. She’s safest when next to Matthew Sinclair. Would she be even more protected in his arms?

This might possibly be my favorite book in the Brethren of Stone books. It is a lovely romance. If you have been reading the series, you will absolutely LOVE the epilogue. It is the absolute best thing!
Matthew (Matt) Sinclair has been existing rather than living since his twin brother, Reginald, died while trying to rescue their young sister from a cliff ledge near their home. His other brothers have moved on, married, started families, etc. but Matt can’t do that. Instead, he is always angry. Living, loving and family would not be honoring his brother, because his brother will never get to have that.
Lady Bridget McDougal is half English and half Scot. Her father can’t stand the sight of her and has packed her off to live in England with her mother’s family. He never wants to see her or hear from her again. He has a new wife about Bridget’s age and he plans to sire a son. He puts her on a small ship in winter when the storms are at their worst, so it isn’t a huge surprise that her ship sinks during a violent storm.
Matt’s three ships have taken shelter from the raging storm. They are all safely tucked into a small cove and trying to get some sleep when the shout from the on-duty sailors above awakens them. There is another ship that had tried to make it into the cove for shelter, but it ran into the rocks and is now sinking. Matt and his crew manage to rescue those aboard the sinking ship and bring them aboard his ships.
One of those rescued is Lady Bridget. She is a tiny little thing and Matt towers over her. She doesn’t let that stop her, she gives as good as she gets and that fascinates Matt. She can’t go back to her father and Matt promises to see her safely to London. The time between rescue and arrival in London brings them closer and closer, through more storms, irate parents and missing dowries. It is a lovely journey to a HEA.
Again – the epilogue is to die for, but I won’t tell you more because it would spoil it.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
After the death of Reginald his twin brother, Matthew Sinclair has no room in his life for love. He’s been running the families fleet of ships. On the way home the three ships run into a storm. Luckily for Matt they take shelter but another ship hits the rocks & flounders. Matt is a true Sinclair & goes to rescue the crew only to find Lady Bridget McDougal who is half English and a pampered lady. The woman can’t even manage to say thanks when he saves her life. Nor does she express any gratitude as he changes his plans to deliver her safely home. Matthew Sinclair is a heathen and a rake, a degenerate and a lout. He does nothing but sneer and brood and act as though it was her fault their ship wrecked on rocks and his precious schedule was interrupted.
Another lovely read which I read in a sitting. The pace is really good & grabbed my interest from page one. Matt & Bridget are delightful their sniping at each other is very entertaining but the attraction is also there & they can’t leave each other alone, she feels safe with him & he wants nothing more than to protect her. A very lovely romance & the twist at the end was surprising & very welcome, I now want to read the final book in the series
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Rogue Scot is another fantastic historical romance by Tammy Andresen. This book is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Andresen has delivered a well-written book. You can’t help but love the characters. Matthew leads his 3 ships into a sheltered harbor when a storm approaches. Bridget’s ship wasn’t so lucky and sunk attempting to get to safety. Matthew and Bridget’s story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzle and just a touch of suspense. I enjoyed every page of Rogue Scot and can’t wait for my next book by Tammy Andresen. Rogue Scot is part of the Brethren of Stone Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I love this series – the Sinclair sons & daughter are such a wonderful family. In this story, our hero is Captain Matt Sinclair who lost his twin brother 10 years ago and he has become a loner & rake with no room in his life for love. While at sea, delivering goods to his brother, during a storm they rescue a crew and 2 women from a sinking ship. Our heroine has just appeared to Matt – Lady Bridget McDougal is half English and certainly thinks she is way above his class. He finds her to be a spoiled, rich lady of the Ton that can’t even say thank you for saving her life & she thinks he is an overbearing ogre who does nothing but sneer, glare and lecture (just like her father).
They will both eventually see that they were wrong about one another. They have some adventurous, family, romantic moments. I highly recommend the book and the whole series as it is full of wonderful stories and characters. I am already looking forward to Reginald’s story.
A quick and enjoyable read. It may be a short read but a lot is packed into the story. Wonderful characters with great chemistry, some drama, and recurring characters. I liked that the characters grew and overcame their individual fears. There is a nice surprise ending in the epilogue which sets up for book 5.
Rogue Scot by Tammy Andresen is book 4 in the Brethren of Stone Series. This is the story of Matthew ‘Matt’ Sinclair and Bridget McDougal. I have read the previous book but feel you could make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Bridge is being shipped out by her father who has a new wife and they don’t wish to have her with them. Matt’s twin brother died when his brother tried to save their sister. So neither have a good outlook on life when they meet. Both quickly assume the character of the other person without any really justification but when they are left with no choice they start to see the other person in a new light. I enjoyed reading their story and will look for more books but this author.
Brethren of Stone is a series that I have enjoyed very much thus far which does include this story, Rogue Scot, but I did have a hard time endearing myself to the characters. Lady Bridget McDougal had a heart wrenching backstory and she was not in the best of circumstances, which would affect anyone’s attitude, but I just didn’t find her very likable. She came off as very childish to me and her about-face regarding Matthew Sinclair and their compatibility didn’t feel convincing. I did admire her loyalty though, when she had lost everything, she was still very concerned for her companion’s circumstances as well as her own. Bridget did grow on me a little by the end of the story but it took a while to get there.
Matthew was a man dead set against ever finding love or even entering into marriage because he still grieved his twin brother’s loss. It had been twelve years and Matthew had yet to start the healing process. He held onto his grief as a way to protect himself from ever being hurt again. Beyond the fact that Matthew found Bridget attractive, I don’t see what he found so appealing about her that he would shuck off his “I will never marry” self-flagellation that he had been touting for a very long time. I would think with how committed he was to his grief that a pretty face would not have been enough. Despite my disconnect with the characters, I liked the plot in Rogue Scot as well as the ending, it was very exciting and has me curious to see what will come next.
This review is based on a complimentary book I received from Aurora Publicity. It is an honest and voluntary review. The complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating.
What is not to love about a Sinclair brother? Matthew Sinclair with his three ships had taken shelter in a small cover from a terrible storm. When they spot a ship crashing and quickly sinking, he and his crew rescue those aboad and bring them to his ship.
Lady Bridget McDougal, half Scot and half English, had been forced to go to England by her father who wanted her to not come back. He had married a young wife and hopes to have a son soon to he puts her on a ship. She was one of the passenges rescured by Matt and to say she is a fiesty little lady is saying it mildly! Matt promises to get her to London, but meanwhile they end up spending time together on the voyage there.
Let the adventure begin as these two try not to become attracted to each other but there is really no use to fight it. A wonderful story of two people who are fated to be together but there is a journey to get there! Another amazing addition to this series!!
Matthew Sinclair never got over losing what he thought was the best part of him, his twin brother. Losing hurts too much, so he takes to the sea, growing his family’s business, until a deadly storm forced his ships to seek safe harbor. Another vessel wasn’t so fortunate and as he risked life and limb to save the passengers, one damsel in distress pushed every button he had in the very worst way.
Lady Bridget McDougal is no fan of the water and her journey is more of a banishment from her father’s life. She wasn’t cut from the bold Scot cloth and her haughty attitude hid a young woman terrified and alone. Matthew’s attitude and lack of civility toward her stoked her prickly side, but you know what they say about opposites attracting? Let the tentative romance begin as one rake with a chip on his shoulder has his heart softened by a most unlikely lady!
Like opening a box of fine chocolates, you know you will love its decadent taste, but what is in the middle is what holds the surprise, Tammy Andresen’s ROGUE SCOT satisfied my reading sweet tooth and left me smiling.
I received a complimentary ARC edition from Tammy Andresen! This is my honest and voluntary review!
The fourth book in The Brethren of Stone series, this one touches the heart in a special way and leaves one happy about the conclusion. This family has had so much pain, that Matthew doesn’t even think twice about closing off his heart to the plight of Lady Bridget McDougal. It is only when he comes to the realisation that her father is one of the most despised men in Scotland that he knows that if he doesn’t give her the assistance she needs, he would blame himself if something awful were to happen to her. Lady Bridget has a plan and it doesn’t include the arrogant Matthew Sinclair. It is only when she understands that she truly has lost everything that she turns to Matthew for a solution. Not only do they find a way through the problems, but the end result is full of surprises. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
