Left widowed and penniless after a loveless arranged marriage, Jillian reluctantly accepts the job of “refining” a Scottish Highlander who’s inherited an English title. The man infuriates and intrigues her, as well as shakes her resolve to never again let a man close. Ian MacLeod never wanted to come to England, but his clan needs the profits he can gain by claiming his inherited English lands. … English lands. When he meets the very proper Lady Jillian Newburn, he’s fascinated by what he suspects is a warm heart and fiery passion underneath her icy demeanor.
Getting past her chilly resolve to keep him at arm’s length will be a challenge, but this MacLeod has never backed down from a challenge in his life. But it’s not all fun and games and stolen kisses. There’s something about Jillian’s stepson that raises the hair on the back of Ian’s neck, and he’s knows better than to ignore the sign of danger that has never steered him wrong.

“Rouge of the Highlands” is the first novel I’ve read by author Cynthia Breeding.
I have to say I really enjoyed this author’s writing style. She masterfully created multifaceted characters that were intelligent and witty, with just the right amount of humorous, dark, and suspenseful interactions and dialogue that held my interest and kept the pages turning.
I really enjoyed this story for its unique storyline and multiple plots, twist, and turns, that are for me, a refreshing break from the “same old” cookie cutter events and characters that so many books copy and follow. The storyline flowed seamlessly for the main characters with a carefully slow intimate sensual burn that flamed into sexy erotic passion. While the sinister villains displayed their own disturbing erotic appetites that matched their warped plots of revenge and entitlement.
This is NOT a romantic book choice for the clean and sweet readers!
I am looking forward to reading more my this author.
I did feel the end was rushed and we are left with a bit of a cliffhanger because several things were not brought out or mentioned at the end to finish off the happily ever after, therefore, 4 of 5 stars. I received a arc digital copy of this book, which is really in need of sentence and paragraph restructure. It made it hard to read with the sentence spread out on several lines.
I’m definitely looking forward to reading more from this author.
Couldn’t wait to see how all the road blocks to their relationship would be solved.
Good combination of romance, action and funny situations. I would higher recommend the book. Looking forward to reading the remaining books in the series
This is a re-release of the book from 2012.

A very enjoyable enthralling read, the characters are well portrayed, Ian & Jillian epitomise a Highlander & an English lady but they also have hidden depths & were perfect for each other. The story flowed well but I found the ending rushed. I look forward to reading more from the author
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
This book is funny and romantic. It has a good story line and i will read it again. Fiona MacLeod and Earl Kier O’Reilly are such believable characters. I have also read Sister of Rogues, Rogue of the High Seas, Rogue of the Moors, Rogue of the Borders, and Rogue of the Isles. These books are also excellent.
Cynthia Breeding’s ROGUE of the HIGHLANDS is the first in the Rogue series, is filled with intrigue, subterfuge, and danger. Jillian Alton, the widowed Lady Newburn is penniless. She accepts money from the Prince of Wales in return for teaching MacLeod how to ‘act’ like a proper English nobleman. This reverse My Fair Lady turns into much more than a Miss Manners tutorial. This is a fun and somewhat suspenseful read.
Very good book.
I’m reading this book right now and so far it is a page turner.
Loved the interaction of these characters. Really a lovely love story.
Whole series is a very good read! Loved Ian’s and Jillian’s story!
I liked this book… more sexually explicit than I usually read, but story he’d my interest.
