That wasn’t a cowboy! So why was she still checking him out? The rumble of the Harley drowned out the radio in her truck. George Straight sang about Amarillo and she just stared. The light seemed to stay red forever, or maybe time had stopped. Why didn’t the pony tail and leather jacket bother her? Maybe it was the cheekbones? He turned his head. The chiseled chin pointed right at her and paused. … her?
Maybe it was the cheekbones?
He turned his head. The chiseled chin pointed right at her and paused. Sissy flashed her best smile, wondered if her hair was a mess, and without even knowing why, switched on flirt mode. It was a mindset she stepped into when she wanted to make the cowboys fall in love with her.
Nothing!
He didn’t nod. He didn’t speak. She wondered if he winked but couldn’t tell behind his sunglasses.
The light turned green and the thundering horses of his hog took him away. Even though he’d gone, she remained in the moment.
She didn’t hit the gas.
She just kept thinking to herself, who was that man? And why would she care?
She liked cowboys. He was definitely not her type.
A car honked. And time started again, but would she ever be the same?
Her story would soon begin in a way she never imagined possible.
You’ll love this contemporary western romance because not everyone is what they appear.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and loved it so much, I purchased a copy.
This was wonderful. If I doubted the author to make Sean (from Dancing Creek Ranch) a perfect hero, then I knew for sure that she would work a miracle with Sissy! Sissy was well on her way into becoming like her mother (the town’s floozy and drunk.) The first two books of the series really didn’t paint a good picture of Sissy. I knew I was in for a enchanting read. Sissy was looking for a man like her father, a cowboy. She was looking in all the wrong places. She was trying to change herself and her imagine but the small town had her pigeon-holed into the role and she couldn’t escape.
Sissy meets Rocky, a man that rides a restored classic Harley and has a ponytail, at a gas-station/convenience store that was out of the movie Deliverance! Each saved the other’s life basically and the journey to their HEA begins. I REALLY felt for Sissy and her two half-brothers. Rocky also has a tragic background and isn’t looking for love after a bitter betrayal. He is on his way to visit his childhood friend Rob before journeying on to Seattle to start anew.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this third book in the series. I hope there is a four for (Mina, a character that made a small appearance).
This author does a wonderful job in getting me to fall in love with her characters and their stories. This book is written in a dual POV format which really helped me to understand Sissy (SuEllen) so much better.
I highly recommend this story to any one.
Rocky Road Home by Stephanie Berget is book 3 in the Harney Country Cowboys series. If I am being honest and I am. I have to say this is my very favorite of the series. We met Sissy in the other books and i always thought she was misunderstood and wasn’t like how she acted and portrayed herself. I felt people were judging her on her Mother behavior. Even through Sissy behavior didnt help. I was so happy to learn that I was right. All she needed was for someone to see through that tough, flirty act of her to the “real” Sissy. Rocky does that. A motorcycle riding Cowboy. Be still my heart! What you think is going to be a really steamy read, is not! Come, hop on, it going to be a wild ride, but one that leads to a happy ever after.
Having met Sissy in previous books in this series, one would imagine that this novel would be raunchy and steamy. Rather, it is a gentle love story that takes the heart by storm and made me want to reach out and take the bad girl in my arms and give her a healing hug. Having made a right mess of her life, Sissy is determined to turn things around. However, she still manages to walk into trouble. Rocky knows nothing about Sissy, other than that she needs his help, but it comes at a price. After a night of being cooped up in an abandoned cabin with the hissing cat, Rocky figures he doesn’t need any more trouble in his life. After all, he’s left trouble behind when he heads for his new life. Nevertheless Rocky finds himself being drawn to Sissy and when he sees the life she is trying to extricate herself from, his heart goes out to her. This book is about second chances, the kind where one can start over again and shed the past like the skin of a snake and make new choices based on experiences that have burned and scoured one to the core. Rocky is an unlikely hero, but one that one can love anyway. Sissy didn’t do much to endear herself in previous novels, but one cannot but help feel for her and trust that she will get a grip on her new life. I received a copy of this book as gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
