A Rocky Mountain logging camp may be just the place to start her new life.
Widowed at nineteen, Madeline Lamb seeks to find a new husband amongst the crew of the Rocky Mountain log drive. With a baby growing inside her, she has no choice. She signs on as cook’s helper, and it soon becomes apparent her options for a mate are limited. Madeline’s grieving heart wavers between the security an older … between the security an older man offers and the tender feelings a new crew member stirs.
Will Matheson earned the chance to work the high-paying spring log drive. The boon ensures he can recoup the logging wages stolen by a pretty face with some fast fingers. Frustration builds when the boss pulls him from the river and assigns him the job of camp chore boy. If it wasn’t for the pretty cook’s helper, he’d take the first train home.
When the dangers of the river journey prove more treacherous than anyone expects, the budding attraction between Will and Madeline is put to the test. If they survive the adventure, life as they know it will never be the same.

So I must be completely honest this book started out slow to me but once it got to the second chapter it was smooth sailing. This is the second book in the Rocky Mountain Revival series and it can be read as a stand alone novel. There are definitely mentions about characters from the first book but I didn’t feel like I was lost or missing anything as I read this one. This book definitely has a good combination or romance and a little bit of suspense.
We meet Will who works at a logging camp. He feels like he is to blame for his father’s death and carries that burden with him. He swears that he is not falling in love until he meets Madeline that is. Madeline is a widow. She is pregnant and although she misses her husband dearly she is looking for a new husband to also be a good father to her baby. She is also the daughter of the logging camp boss. She has a list she has made of qualities she wants in her second husband and although Will fits all those categories she keeps overlooking him because of his age. Instead she sets her sights on Pearly who is a real jerk! I won’t ruin it for you but when you read it you will understand.
The love story between Madeline and Will is sweet but definitely slow at times. Madeline’s character at times can be a bit frustrating. Although her dad and pseudo-uncle Shorty want to make sure she makes the right decision and warn her about Pearly she still wants to make the final decision for herself.
Overall it was a good read and I am looking forward to see what happens in the next book. I would love to know about Will’s friend Mack and if we will see Pearly again.

Subterfuge, sabotage, and suspicion are all a part the Pollit Lumber Company’s log drive in the Rocky Mountains. These elements all create a sense of tension and mystery to keep you wondering what will happen along the way.
I didn’t know anything about the logging industry and found it to be interesting and well as informational. Lisa Flickinger’s descriptions of the events and people make you feel like you are a part of the drive. I enjoyed this western tale and even though it is the second book in the series, it can be a stand alone read.

It took me a chapter or two to get fully be invested in this story but then I couldn’t get enough of Will and Madeline’ story. You don’t have to read the first book but you should just because it’s great too! The experience of the 1800’s logging camp in the Rocky Mountains is so interesting! There is so much competition and jealousy, along with brotherhood. They can both work! However, in this story, you see how the men take sides and the danger of it. Madeline is a widow and her father is the boss. She is along on the logging camp “drive” as a cook’s assistant because she wants to find a new father for her unborn child, even though her father is against it. The men don’t know she is pregnant though and they don’t know she’s looking for a husband! There is a lot of danger along the way and Will, being the new guy, is constantly set up, but he is kind to Madeline and holds his own with the men. I was pulled into the story and had a hard time letting go when it ended! I really enjoyed it!
This book was wonderful! It’s a Christian romance has just the right amount of drama and suspense to keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. It’s one of those books you hate to see it end but you just have to know what happens next. Madeline and Will’s story will keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved reading this book. I received a complimentary copy from Wild Heart Books and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
